George Rogers Clark 57 Bourbon County 56

Final. Wow!

Anyone have details on this one? Gold?

Wow is right!

Did something happen in this game? Didn't understand the "wow" comments. Fill us in.

This score isn't really that shocking is it? Clark County was 1-6 and Bourbon County was 2-5 I believe.

It has been a long time since Bourbon was able to come anywhere close to GRC.

GRC isn't suiting up Preston Knowles, Vinny Zollo, any Stenzels, etc... anymore.

Their uniforms don't even fit them this season. No more 6-5 (and up) guys in the starting lineup or on the bench. They have two close wins over Paris and Bourbon County. Going to be a long year in Winchester. They just aren't the same Clark County team they have been for recent years.

They have had a great run. A great year for a young GRC would be to avoid Montgomery in the district tournament and get into the region.

It is shocking to me. While GRC is certainly down this year, Bourbon County hasn't been playing well at all either.

My "wow" came from comparison scoring; which I will admit sometimes gets me into trouble.

Augusta beat Bourbon by 22.

Mason beat Bourbon by 40.

Grant County beat Bourbon by 23.

Clark beat Bourbon by 1.

Is someone now playing for Bourbon who may have missed the earliest part of the schedule? I don't know.

Has Clark played any of those teams? If not, then what is there to compare.

Looks like Clark is just not very good.

GRC is very young. BUT they are a scrappy bunch. They are going to take their lumps, but if the coach can keep their confidence up, they will be a dangerous team.Bourbon has an older team and this game was at Bourbon. Although I said GRC would win, I still consider it an upset.

The George Rogers Clark boys basketball team notched its second win of the season Tuesday night with a 58-57 triumph over Bourbon County in Paris.

The Cardinals trailed 44-41 going into the fourth quarter, but rallied during the final eight minutes. Riley Caudill capped the successful comeback when he sank the front end of the bonus with 2.4 seconds remaining for the final margin. Caudill intentionally missed the second shot.

It was a strategy Clark coach Scott Humphrey said he wanted in the closing seconds after Caudill gave the Cards a one-point cushion.

“When I told him to miss it, his eyeballs got big, but I think he liked that because it’s easier to miss in that situation,” Humphrey said. “He played it as perfect as you would want it. We felt like of we could get point five or point eight off that clock that would make a difference. More times than not, if they do score at the end, it’s a three, so being up two isn’t going to really help anyway.”

The win snapped Clark’s two-game losing streak, but more importantly gave the Cards, now 2-6, a 2-1 record in the 40th District. Clark owns wins over Paris and Bourbon County, with its lone loss coming against Montgomery County last week.

“We haven’t had a lot of close ones,” Humphrey said. “The last (close) one we had, did not go our way, and tonight it bounced our way a little bit late. This is one we needed, with it being a (district) seed game and you have to take care of the district to set yourself up for the postseason and it doesn’t guarantee anything. It’s one of the meaningful games of the regular season, the seed games, and we’ve been fortunate enough to won two of those.”

Caudill was one of three players who finished the contest in double figures with 15 points. Khamarkis Blanton led the Cards with 19 points, while Luke Sharrock came off the bench and tallied 11. Sharrock scored all of his eight first-half points in the final three minutes of the half.

“He played relaxed when he came (into the game),” Humphrey said. “When he made that first shot when he got into the game, it just relaxed him. It was definitely a good night for him and we’re definitely going to need him and he’s a smart, tough kid. Even though he’s not big height-wise, but he plays bigger because of his strength.”

Snoop Johnson tied Blanton for game-high scoring honors with 19 points, while Chris Gillispie followed with 16 for the hosts.

Good to see Gillispie getting more involved in the scoring for the Colonels. :thumb:
