Last week saw some of the rust wear off of some of our teams in the 8th Region.

 

Gallatin County started out 0-2, but has rattled off 4 straight including last night's 31st district win against Eminence. 3 of the 4 wins were all NCKC Conference wins with the 4th against the 10th Region's Scott Eagles.

 

Grant County has come out of the gate strong with a 5-0 start including a 32nd district win against Simon Kenton this past week. I neglected to mention the Braves last week. I apologize to Coach Hicks and the team for that. They lead the district with a 2-0 record with Walton-Verona to go in the first round of seed play.

 

Collins continues to have a strong start as well. South Oldham took the Titans to double overtime, but the Titans prevailed. They remain undefeated at 5-0 also.

 

Owen County is 5-1 out of the gate with the lone loss against Carroll County at home. A loss that saw the Rebels home winning streak come to an end. The last time Owen lost at home was February 2011. The Rebels continue this week in all 31st District Seed games.

 

Carroll County is also still undefeated at 4-0. Last week's wins against Williamstown & Owen County were all NCKC Conference games. They will face Gallatin County this week as the Conference undefeated teams meet. Congratulations to the Panthers Dallas Gibson on being voted NCKC Player of the week last week.

 

Oldham County went 2-1 last week with wins against the Australian Travel team and Louisville Moore. Their lone loss of the season came against Louisville Christian Academy. The Colonels start district play this week against Trimble County.

 

South Oldham also went 2-1 last week with wins against Trimble County and Bardstown. The loss came against Collins as we mentioned above.

 

Anderson County with just one game last week. A win against Garrard County. The Bearcats are 2-0 early.

 

Spencer County went 1-1 last week with a win against Whitefield Academy and a loss to Bullitt East.

 

The Simon Kenton Pioneers had a hard week last week. After a 2-0 start, the 'Neers last week went 0-3 against Scott County, Conner and the game we mentioned above against Grant County. SK has district competition this week with Williamstown and Walton-Verona on the docket.

 

Trimble County went 2-2 last week with wins against St. Francis and Eminence and losses against Owen County & South Oldham in 29th District action.

 

North Oldham had a Simon Kenton week last week also with losses against Collins, Louisville Collegiate & Madison Southern. The Mustangs have 3 games this week to right the ship.

 

Henry County went 1-2 last week. The lone win against Shawe Memorial and 31st district losses to Gallatin County and county rival Eminence. More district and conference action this week for the Wildcats.

 

Walton-Verona went 1-3 last week. The Bearcats defeated Williamstown in 32nd district action, but fell to Gallatin County and Owen County as well as 9th Region powerhouse Holmes. More district and Region action for WV this week.

 

Eminence got their first win of the year against Henry County as we mentioned above, but fell to Gallatin County & Trimble County. The Warriors are 1-3 on the year.

 

Williamstown went winless this week against Bath County, Walton-Verona, Grant & Carroll County. This week is more District play, (Simon Kenton) conference play, (Gallatin County) and a road trip to Silver Grove from the 10th Region.

 

Shelby County remains winless on the season at 0-5.

Collins remains the school to beat. They have a couple of football guys who will only get better.

 

Never count out Oldham County with their Coach. They play really gritty team defesne and are a real tough out in the playoffs.

Both teams playing very good ball. Tyler Carr is a machine. Instrumental in the win over SK The game thread said he had 41 of the 69 points. Grant played very well over the end of the season last year. Smooth transition over to the 2012-13 season.

 

Carroll County has done very well too. When I saw Dallas Gibson last year, I was very impressed. This past week, garnered NCKC player of the week honors with his play. The 31st District is going to be very interesting this year. Eminence with the win against Henry County, Carroll's win over Owen. It's a toss up.

I watched Grant County one game last year & was very impressed with their defense & the collective team effort. Good to see them start so well.

They seem to have more people on crutches than in uniform. I expect them to be rolling come late January/ February.

Hard to believe that Shelby Co has hit rock bottom. Remember the days when they won the region almost every year.

No doubt GS. We're seeing that a little bit in the 9th Region with Cooper. They pulled kids from Boone County, Ryle and Conner. Teams are rebounding as Cooper now begins to thrive a bit after 4 years.

 

For anyone closer to Collins, how bad was Shelby County really hit with Collins opening?? Do you see the rebound of the Rockets??

Basically Collins gets all the atheletes and kids that attend Shelby West Middle School, and having saw their middle school feeders, Shelby East being the other, for the last 10 years Shelby West beats East by 25-30 points on all levels. Shelby is getting the East kids and Collins is getting the Shelby West kids. Shelby has some good young talent, they start 2-3 freshmen in Varsity so it will take some time. They beat Anderson last night, great win. The coaching staff they have assembled will serve dividends as the transformation is going on, BUT as long as the split is happening the way it is expect Collins to be loaded every season and Shelby to be descent. Unfortunate but looking at the middle school teams now Shelby East is awful and West is loaded. They dont allow a transfer in district, so it looks like it will stay that way. There has been some discussion that they will divide the county in a different matter later on, but that is speculation. The powers that be are unhappy that their school with tradition is now a faded memory.

Really shows the parody in the 31st District. Eminence beats Henry, Henry beats Carroll, Carroll beats Owen.

 

As far as Grant goes, a 6 point loss to a resurgent Ryle team is not that bad at all. Don't know game details, but look for Grant to be in the District/Region mix.

Forgot to mention Coach Holland and what he has done at Oldham County. Defending Region champs will be very strong again at the end of February.
