Bret Bielema to Arkansas

Featured Replies

I seem to remember a lot of people saying these exact same things about Saban when he left the Big Ten for LSU. He pretty much plays the same style of football at Bama that he did at MSU.

Bielema is a very good coach.

Bielema's coaching is greatly overvalued, IMO. His record against the better third of the Big 10 teams is pitiful. Like real bad. I can't remember the exact number I heard last night, but it was like 3-23. And the Big 10 is as bad as it has ever been the past few seasons. His averaging recruiting class is around 50. Sure he will have more resources in the south, but I am not seeing it.

Let's revisit this in 3 years. Don't know if Bret is quite the coach Nick is.

Irrelevant. The style works.

Quick completely unrelated trivia question....What do Bielema and JJ Redick have in common?

Irrelevant. The style works.

Are you saying the quality of the coaching is irrelevant? If so, then every coach should adopt that "style."

It was said that his "style" doesn't work. Bama disproves that. It still comes down to jimmys and joes.

I'm watching presser on delay .. Bielema flat out says "Wisconsin wasn't wired to" pay/retain good assistants. Will be able to at Arkansas.

His overall record is 68-24.

His Big Ten Record is 37-19.

Concidering how difficult it is to recruit there. That is incredible. No one has come close to matching that in the past. Not even Barry.

Barry was 118-73-4 overall and 65-60-3 in the Big Ten.

RockPride had mancrushes on both?

UW AD Barry Alvarez says former OC Paul Chryst will be staying as head coach at Pitt and not returning to UW.

His overall record is 68-24.

It was difficult to recruit there when Barry started, that is for sure. He took over a program that had won virtually nothing. He built Wisconsin football despite what his record reflects.

While it may be difficult to recruit to Wisconsin, not to the point of where it has been from what I understand given their recent success. I just question that since he is not known as much of a recruiter, and I presume not a lot of connections in the south, of what kind of success he has.

Alvarez is coaching in the Rose Bowl.
