2012 State Tourney Team Rankings

That's your objective.. We'll never know.. I tend to give BG a little extra credit because I think they played a much tougher road thru the 5a playoffs than Highlands did through the 4a playoffs and they did have a win over St X, which is better than any win Highlands had and they were undefeated.. I think Highlands played better at the end of the year and closed the gap, but, let's be realistic, Collins was likely the worst team at state in any class, certainly lower 3, so, winning big wasn't a surprise to me in that one..

Yet with this same logic you have Mayfield ahead of Central?

I'll give Mayfield serious credit...their non-district schedule was amazing for a 1A school.. but their best win was against a schizophrenic Graves County and a Tilghman team that proved to be a second tier 3A team. If part of Mayfield's merit is the fact they gave Warren Central a good go is open for debate, then the fact Central played St. X tough as well as losing by one to the 6A Runner-Up has to be accounted for as well. Also, IMO Collins would have beat Fairview by 3-4 TD's.

In terms of quality wins:

Central's wins over Ballard, Western, Bell County, and Belfry were all better than Mayfield's best win.

All valid points but Mayfield was really never in danger of losing any game but WC. Jackson having cramps in the 2nd half didn't help any. I don't know if Mayfield is better than Central but I do know, they would know, they were in a ball game if they were to have played this season. Other than Trinity , Highlands, BG, I think Mayfield on some nights could beat alot of the so called big boys in the state of Kentucky. I usually dont like to get into these kind of debates because nobody can prove anything but I do know both Central and Mayfield both had solid teams.

No doubt snake. IMHO, Mayfield was pound for pound the toughest team in KY. I certainly think they could go toe to toe most nights with Central and Belfry, and even beat them. There is no 2A team or no other 1A team I feel could say that about.

I was of the feeling all season that Central was probably the best team in the lower three classes, with Mayfield and Bell County probably the next two in line. However, Central's series of close calls in the playoffs and watching the two teams on state championship weekend makes me think that Mayfield was, at the very least, Central's equal.

Pointless thread...each of the 6 Champions got the exact same trophy. As Lawnboy said, if we won a title you could rank us 12th...heck rank us 50th I wouldn't care, if we brought the title home.

How does comparing 1A and 6A schools accomplish anything.

Some folks wanting to stroke egos I guess.
