Newport Central Catholic 69 Ludlow 46

NewCath came out of the gates firing trey's and connecting, Bueter and Siebert on fire. Ludlow did a nice job of keeping the ball from getting inside to McDonald and Schulte for the most part. Bueter and Siebert connected on quite a few beuatiful alley hops and the freshman Ben Weyer got plenty of minutes and played great in his 1st varsity game. Newcath pressure was way too much for Ludlow and it was a "running clock" in the 3rd quarter.

Running Clock....From what I was told it is a new rule this year when a team is up 35 pts. and only stops for foul shots.

Newcath plays a triple-header tomorrow at Dixie. Frosh 4:30 - JV 6:00 - Var 7:30

I will say Ludlow loves to jack-up the 3's......without them it would have been much worse. A few of the Panthers have a nice stroke though.

New rule. It continues even if the deficit gets below 35.

Stops for injuries/TOs/FTs/blood.

Bad for the JV boys who get to dress varsity.

Clyde, at what point would the clock stop again ?

Meaning when a deficit gets to 35 and the new rule kicks in and the clock is a running clock with the exceptions mentioned above. Is there a point where if the deficit gets below that it stops again like normal ? - just curious, not that it would ever be a situation where a team could come back and win. Like you mentioned may effect the JV players who would normally gets extra minutes late in those blowout games.

Once it starts it does not go back to normal time procedures.

Didn't mention these because I thought it was understood, but thanks Clyde. :thumb:

Does the running clock only apply to the second half as in football, or does it kick in at any time a 35 point margain is achieved???

Good question 'Stang, but I don't know.

Rick Shumate does not like this new rule.

I'll second that motion.......... a) How long does a blowout game take anyway....let 'em play

b) You paid to watch a game....give 'em a full game

c) This kids practice to play games.......play the whole game

d) Really.....why !

Starts in the 2nd half.

Rick Shumate does not like this new rule.

That is correct.
