An unconfirmed report out of Hopkinsville says Christian County coach Josh Smith has stepped down before coaching his first game. The Colonels are scheduled to open their season Dec. 4 against Madisonville.

 

Christian County was tabbed as the #2 team in the Second Region in the BGP Preview. An assistant coach is expected to be named the interim coach sometime this week, maybe as soon as Tuesday.

I hate this for the kids on the team. This will probably disrupt their whole season. One of my biggest regrets was stepping down as a coach in the middle of a season to take a district level administration job. It was a great opportunity for me and my family, but I felt like I let my players down when I had to resign to take the job. I felt like I ruined 2 kids senior season that year.

Source I talked to said Coach Smith is moving back to Tennessee. Assistant Coach Kyle Eades likely to take over.

I think the powers that be also have a role in mid or preseason resignations. AD's and other school leaders need to make their coaches feel valued, secure, and happy. A coach should never feel like they are on the hotseat from school administration. I do not kow if this applies to hrisitan County's situation or not but it does apply to various schools all over the state.
