He actually repeated 7th grade. I believe his 8th grade year resulted in the Boone County schools refusing to play Turkey Foot in basketball because of him.

 

Actually, the Boone county schools pulled out of the NKMSAA basketball league for a year or two after that. They didn't come back until the "Pike" rule regarding age was put in place and being enforced.

I think it was the following year. I had an 8th grade girl playing (who's now a senior) and a 6th grade boy in 2007-2008, and they played no public boone county schools. I think they came back the following year.

If I'm not mistaken the rule stated, if a student athlete repeated or held back during middle school they could not play the next year. Pike was held back in 8th grade, from what I heard, he was not emotionally ready to attend high school.:lol:

Issue was that he played 4 years of MS ball, and played 2 years in the same grade. Dad forced the issue with Kenton Co Schools till he got what he wanted, Boone Co schools refused to play in the league along with Grant Co.

I have read most of the post for this thread. I am not a fan of Zeke's, his younger brother or his dad. But without any specific facts I don't want to cast any stones. With that being said, was Zeke drinking alone? I doubt it. There has to more to the story and it most likely involves other football players.

Very possible, however they did not allow them to play 4 years of ms ball, which is what Zeke did.

I would agree. Many parents have held their kids back due to summer birthdays or other issues early on and not while the kid is in middle school.

That's a weak argument IMO for those that protested. In the end, he's still only one year older at most and , in reality, the same age as others in the grade.

 

I think this has to do more with a)the kid b)the dad and c)the talent level of the kid.

I think I'm going to have to go with the Eddie Haskel theory. I will never forget the interview when he was signing to go to Auburn and all he kept talking about was thanking God and all the blessing of his family and God. All great and good but you have to live by God and not just pretend.

 

Shame, but the parents lost control , or contributed to the behavior, long ago. By the time he was a Junior in High School it was over.l
