I think it needs to be mandated. The KHSAA could rule that teams like Riverside Christian, for instance, can forfeit their seeded game but it will not officially go down as a loss in the records. That way they would automatically have a 4 seed, but wouldn't have 6 losses. Then the best two teams could represent the district. That type ruling would have certainly benifited The David School should this year.

 

I agree totally. The KHSAA should make it mandatory that all districts seed. At every other level tournaments are seeded. It's the only logical thing to do. Consistency is the key in this situation. It makes the regular season more meaningful.

This thread should've gotten a lot more talk out of people. I agree with professor, all districts should be seeded because it makes the rest of the season more important a more fun. When district dont seed it takes away from big crowds for teams which makes it less fun for the kids and less money for them too. Last year when Wolfe was in the 56th every district game had a huge crowd but the 2 times they have played a district opponent this year the crowd has been relatively small. Sedding makes the games have more importance therefor giving the kids something to strive for, even if they aren't the best team.

I am all for seeding. The problem is you have too many schools who will cry about it.

You are exactly right RTP, but they shouldn't. Seeding would up their gate and let the palyers play in more enjoyable atmospheres. We all not that it isnt fun to play in front of 45 people.

I think seeding will eventually be mandated. There is no need for let's say Jackson City tp play Riverside when they can add stronger teams to their schedule that prepares them for tourney play unless it is just to pad a record sometime. Eventually it will be tougher and tougher for the smaller schools to even maintain a full schedule much less play their district rivals unless it is mandated. I think financially it will become a problem as more and more schools consolidate. If Play like Crud High School plays PRP in the championship game of a district tourney what kind of gate do you expect? Could happen in every district in the state that doesn't seed. District play has got to count for something or why take the chance of even playing Play like Crud High School when you may have to beat them 3 times or in the case of All A maybe 4 times in the same year. Seeding just makes good sense. Scheduling,financially and for the best interest of high school sports in KY.

When Riverside plays say a far off team at home they probably don't take in enough money to cover expenses. When they play a Jackson City or Breathitt it's their biggest paydays of the season with their share of the gate and they need the money. So, Breathitt used to schedule them to help them and Jackson probably does the same. Which is a decent thing to do.

But imo seeding would make the district games much more interesting. They would MEAN more than just a score. Can you imagine a game between Hazard and Leslie in January with top seed impications on the line......it would be like a TOURNAMENT GAME!!!

But, everyone plays for the chance to move into the playoffs and make it to the region. 8 out of 10 years Leslie would probably finish 3rd in the district. With the draw they have a pretty fair chance of only having to play either Perry or Hazard rather then being seeded 3rd and playing them both, so I see where they are coming from.

Though I personnelly love seeding in he 56th, I do not agree with mandated seeding. The primary reason being that in districts that are not well balanced with resorces and enrollment the "little guy" essentially has NO chance at tourney time. Ky remains the ONLY stae in the nation other than Hawaii to play a single class system. Assuming that will reamin the same, I only hope for the sake of the small school in a big school district, seeding remains optional.

So what you are saying is that Leslie would rather be lucky than good? I can see the banner in the gym......District runnerup 2006, becasue we lucked out in the draw.....or.........Billy sure did a great job at the draw this year and drew cupcake HS, unlike Mike who chocked last year and drew the best team in the first round....

 

Me, I sure would rather buy a ticket to see the draw, than to see the best teams play in the Region...
