Championship site has to move?

Featured Replies

I saw information that after this season the high school football state championships in Nebraska can no longer be played at UN because of a new NCAA rule. The rule has to do with it giving colleges hosting the site an unfair recruiting advantage. Has anyone else heard of this rule? If it is a new rule that would mean WKU would no longer be able to host the title game. I have no idea if this rule will apply to basketball too.

There is an NCAA rule that a non-scholastic sponsor can't hold a game or tournament in a college's facility (thus a series of basketball scrimmages in Rupp and at least one tournament in the Yum! Center that I know of have been canceled) but I don't think it applies to a state organization such as the KHSAA so it shouldn't impact any of their championships.

The games should be played at UK, so that we could see Kentucky teams actually win something there.

They'd need turf for that to happen. Since they haven't gotten field turf to my knowledge as of yet, they're not even in the conversation.

I would much rather see the game played at a High school stadium or smaller college anyways. PJCS was way, way to big when they played them there. It felt empty.

Not claiming that this rule will apply to the KHSAA events or not, but does a college not get publicity, and possibly students, by hosting such an event? If I remember correctly, I think WKU even said something along those lines when they submitted their bid to host the finals.

If I was running a college, I would relish in the opportunity to get as many high school students on my campus as possible. And, an event such as this gets thousands on the campus in one weekend.

Yeah that was a thought I had too.
