1) Privatize and eliminate USPS.

2) Stop making the US taxpayer responsible for the national security of other countries.

3) Eliminate HSA - militarize the borders.

4) Outsource federal and state penal facilities to Mexico.

No. Tolkien.

What is the benefit of voting against raising the debt ceiling?

I just want reduced spending. I don't want to say 'mandatory cuts' because sequestration doesn't actually cut anything. Its simply a decrease in the rate of increase in regards to spending. Voting to raise the debt ceiling without any real cuts is just more spending and digs us deeper into debt.

When is it enough?

How can middle class taxes be going up with the ending of the Bush tax cuts? According to the left, when it happened, it was just a tax cut for the rich. How is it now going to punish the middle class when originally it didn't help them? It only helped the rich.

Let them expire. Let the cuts go into effect. Do not increase the debt ceiling. Take the bitter pill and cut now.

Your income taxes certainly did go down under Bush. However, if you think they did not are you calling out your president as a liar?
No they didn't and yes That president was a liar .

Bring em out and I'll prove you're wrong. If you had the same income and expense circumstances as the prior years, your federal income tax went down. Period.

I agree with you that Obama is a liar but not about this.

Being a nerd here were my rates between 2001 and 2005.

15.10%

15.72%

13.27%

14.11%

14.89%

2001 had lowest income, 2005 had highest...other actually fluctuated with births, etc in between.

Its there....not much...but you can see the tax rates go down around 1.5%.

Everybody say that the Bush tax cuts will expire .What tax cuts ? I never saw any . My taxes under President Bush either stayed the same or went up . Bush tax cuts indeed . What a Crock !

Exactly! People fail to take into account their fluctuations in income, deductions and exemptions when they took at the absolute tax amounts they paid. I make $40,000 one year and $45,000 the next; in most cases my taxes would go up even with lower tax rates if everything else remains constant. What they need to consider is how much their taxes would have been without the changes in tax law.

I do not see that a slight easing up of rates will hurt most people but every little bit helps - helps the citizen when they can keep more money that is! The change in rates gets very muted for most citizens. As above shows.

For those in AMT territory the fix that is absolutely needed during this lame duck session is the AMT patch - for 2012! Its not done. So those who are subject to the AMT do not know if they will get hit with the unpatched (higher) rate or the the patched rate.

Note that anyone making over $100K as a family really should calculate the AMT on their income. It can catch households pretty easy.

As to the fiscal cliff, it's coming folks. So far this week I've read statements coming from both sides that lead me to believe nobody is really interested in compromise. Republicans say leave rates alone. Democrats again talking about elections having consequences and that the military must be cut but entitlements now have to be left alone. Harry Reid wants to bottle up filibusters, I guess he thinks the democrats will hold the senate for a very long time. Only way they reach compromise is for the Republicans to ease up on rate increases and military spending while the Democrats ease up on social programs. Anybody really think that's going to happen?

No. At best something like a 'continuing resolution' that raises the debt ceiling and kicks the can down the road - even if only to hand it off to the next (still badly divided) Congress.

Well, at least Obama is consulting the highest experts in preparing for his negotiations on the fiscal cliff.

Al Sharpton???? Everyone else feeling as comfortable as I am?

At this point, I'm just going to take enough Tylenol PM to put me asleep for the next 4 years. :taz:
