Beechwood 45 Bracken County 8

So the frosh QB Fieger had a big night. Last I heard he had 4 TD passes. Kid is going to be good for the next 3 years.

Here is your game report:

The game started slow for both teams' offenses. The Tigers received the opening kickoff and went 3 and out and the Polar Bears did the same on their first possession. There was a bad snap and the Polar Bear punter went to a knee to pick it up. That gave the Tigers the ball at the 8 yard line. But the Tigers could not get in the end zone and settled for a 31 yard field goal by Miles Sletto, 3-0 Tigers. The offenses continued to struggle on the next couple possessions. Bracken County was stacking the box like most teams do against the Tigers and the running game was going no where. So the Tigers took to the air with freshman QB Kyle Fieger getting his first start. The results could spell trouble for the Tigers' opponents through the rest of these playoffs. Fieger hit Joe Studer on a 23 yard TD pass with 39 seconds left in the 1st quarter. Sletto's extra point made it 10-0.

Bracken County again went 3 and out as the second quarter began and Dan Middendorf blocked a low point to give the Tigers the ball at the 34. The Tigers fumbled that chance away at the 1. Bracken County went 3 and out again. Beechwood started working in more passes and Fieger hit Jalen Hayden with a 29 yard TD pass to make it 17-0 with 4:08 to go. After another 3 and out, Fieger hit Studer for an 82 yard TD pass to take the score to 24-0 with 2:06 to go. Another 3 and out by Bracken was followed by a 15 yard TD pass from Fieger to Carter Burns. Your halftime score was 31-0. Fieger had 200 yards passing and 4 TD's and the Tigers may have the QB they have been looking for.

Bracken County could do nothing on their first drive of the second half. Joe Studer returned the punt 65 yards for a Tigers TD and it was now 38-0 just 30 seconds into the second half. The Polar Bears went 3 and out again. The Tigers had a short field and Fieger finished the drive with a 3 yard pass to Devon Everett, 45-0 Tigers and the clock was running. Beechwood played their reserves the rest of the way.

In the 4th quarter Bracken County had a long drive and finally punched one into the end one. Connor Rigg scored the TD from 7 yards out and then converted the 2 point try. Beechwood's reserves moved the ball but was stopped on downs at the 19. That brought us to the final score of 45-8. Fieger ended the game 11-13 for 212 yards and 5 TD passes.

So the Tigers took to the air with freshman QB Kyle Fieger getting his first start. The results could spell trouble for the Tigers' opponents through the rest of these playoffs.

Are you saying Fieger will QB here on out?

Yes. I think Fieger is the QB any time they aren't running Nussbaum at QB in the wildcat. He was very impressive. He throws a good ball and he did a good job finding the open man. When it comes to passing the ball, he is their best QB.

Who played QB when Nussbaum wasn't prior to tonight?

Cameron Lane who was active tonight and started at safety. Lane came in for one series late in the game when the reserves were playing. Fieger starting was not suspension related.

Tough spot to bring a frosh QB in. Did he even play JV this year?

No. He has only played freshman ball all year and did not dress for a varsity or JV game before tonight. He may make some mistakes but the good will far outweigh the bad.

Congrats BW lets now go on and the past is behind us, great job Coach Rash and Staff you will be great down the road. JD

I have to say I was impressed. I did not expect Fieger to look that good. He looked very poised and comfortable. He was right on target with his throws. One incompletion was a perfectly thrown 30 yard pass that hit the receiver in the hands but the defender was right there and punched the ball loose before the receiver could pull it in. The other pass was also on target but a LB dropping was able to get a hand on it before it got to the receiver. That was about as good as it can get for a debut performance by any QB, let alone a freshman playing his first varsity game. I agree with Eye that he will be the QB the rest of the way.

I'll be watching. I was impressed in the one frosh game I saw.

Comic Relief of the night...WCPO says Hunter Spahn threw for 5 touchdown passes tonight.

Great and insightful reporting.....way to phone it in WCPO.

Understandable as Spahn is #8 on the varsity roster. With the freshmen moving up there were some duplicate numbers.

I'm like VOR. I did not expect Fieger to do that well. He can look at multiple receivers and throws a great ball. The 80 yard TD to Studer was one of the nicest passes I have seen from any QB this year. Every offensive touchdown was a pass tonight. Who would have thought that with this beechwood team. Tigers have some good receivers and some great young Talent. Great Job Tigers and Kudos to Young Mr. Fieger.
