My feeling on any of these types of situations is if you have leverage use it.

 

Royce must have some leverage or Houston wouldn't have drafted him. Houston knew this was a possibility and drafted him anyway.

 

I do not share my man PP92's contention that someone with a mental illness needs to "man up."

Not possible for each game. He could make it work on a few different ones close together but it would be difficult.

If Houston refuses to meet his demands this is on them - not Royce.

If they refuse to give a player special treatment that is going to most likely interfere with team activities and alter the schedules of everyone if they try to make it work for him I have a feeling the league might side with them.

 

 

I do partly agree they did know he had issues that might be a problem when the drafted him. It will be interesting to see how the plays out.

Great. So the league sides with them. What does that get them? They still took a chance knowing it was risky. If I'm a Rockets fan I could care less who else agrees with the team. We just lost a pick.

They don't have to pay him if they let him out of the contract but I agree. It was a stupid decision to take him. Wait till round 2 and get him at no risk. It was a wasted pick.

I'd say it is impossible. Play in Houston Wednesday night and in LA on Friday and he's going to miss something. New York one night and Miami the next? He's missing something.

I'm not buying his mental illness hinders him from flying. Seems like an excuse. Has he rode buses his whole life from AAU tourney to AAU tourney? He rode buses in college basketball? People with mental illness and the resources to overcome it figure out a way to manage it. Trying to be bussed around the nation is not managing it. That's running from it and using it as an excuse.

I have mixed feelings on this. I can see both sides of the coin. It would seem to me to put him in a bad position as far as connecting with his teammates if he doesn't have to be with them for extended periods of time, but maybe I'm reading to much in to that.
