Josey Wales Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Great win Panthers!!! Good games by several players. They showed a lot of heart tonight.
dubbbledribbble Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Very nice win! Had Pikeville ever beaten ER?? I can't even remember their last 59th district win. I didn't expect Pikeville to get this big of a win this soon. They may be coming on faster than expected.
halfstep Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Congrats to Coach Williams and the team on a Big District win!
TomSportsHack Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 This was, in fact, the Panthers' first-ever win over the Warriors. Sentiments of "Hail Pikeville" are indeed merited, especially since the basketball season to date has not been especially kind to anybody who plays home games at T.W. Oliver Memorial Gymnasium, no matter their gender. I already heard from Rick Bentley, who was at the game. The Panthers were 15 of 23 at the free throw line .... oh, did I mention that those numbers happened in the final 2:23 alone? Pikeville was 23 for 32 .. oh, wait. That was just Pikeville's free-throw shooting in the fourth quarter. They were 27-for-42 in the game. It was actually good game planning by Denny Paul May and the East Ridge staff -- Pikeville (barely) has hit 50 percent from the line this year.
halfstep Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Just goes to show how important free throws are.
Alfus21 Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 It was actually good game planning by Denny Paul May and the East Ridge staff -- Pikeville (barely) has hit 50 percent from the line this year. Obviously it wasn't too good of game planning...They lost
TomSportsHack Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 On any other night, it works out. Just not this one.

So Pikeville had 10 free throws in the first 3 quarters and then ER started fouling in the 4th because they were behind?
Booge Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 On any other night, it works out. Just not this one. Other teams can count on the Pikeville paper to give a scouting report on how to beat Pikeville.
Josey Wales Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 A few stats from the game: Sword 20 pts. Boyd 13 Champlin 12 Clevinger 10 Robertson 9 Honaker 3 Davis 2 Bell 2 Adams 2 Boyd, Champlin, Davis and Robertson with some big rebounds.
BuzzerBeater Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 I think that the Warriors fouled the whole game according to the officals. It was like 13 fouls to 3 and then at the end when the game was over they started to even them out. Im not blaming this one on the officals because Pikeville played a great game and played with more intesnsity than I have ever saw from them but the officals sure didn't help any. I thought that they key in this game was some of the horrible shots that E.R. took. Pikeville didn't really take a lot of bad shots but some of the Warriors' shots were questionable especially when they were in the lead.
Bird Man Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 Solid win for Pikeville. It's hard to belive that it's there first ever win against East Ridge. East Ridge is streaky. I saw them play Lawrence Co. earlier in the season and sometimes the Warriors looked like two different teams out there. I also talked to Coach May a little bit the next day, nice guy. Congrats to the Panthers.
