My gut is that Dale wouldn't take another coaching job. I really think he is living out his dream. If Dale chooses to hang it up, I really believe that the only thing that would fill the void would be mission work. Dale is a passionate guy and he would have to fill the void with something he could immerse himself into wholly like he does football. Several years ago he took his whole family to South Africa to do mission work and I think that is one thing I could see him doing.

How old is Coach Mueller? How long until he can retire from the school system? Could you see him retiring and moving to a college position, a la Dudley Hilton from Bell County (now at Pikeville College)?

 

Based on when he played at Highlands I would guess he's around 56-57 area.

I have two boys at home that are hoping not for about 7 years.

Oh, I am. My children, however, get to choose their own path. As long as the education is there, I'll support it. It hurt to wear the stupid bird on my chest when I coached them in football, but I'll get over it. Stinks too, b/c I would love for Eddie to coach my boys. I've grown up playing w/ him and have all the respect in the world for him as a coach and competitor. Can't make my boys live my dreams, though.

That is a very mature and responsible way of looking at things. Not all parents do that. Some try to force their children into certain sports or, in this case, certain schools, just because that's what they (the parents) wanted. I think you have to let kids make their own decisions (within reason), so they can take ownership and be happy with their futures. If Dale or even Weinrich happens to be their head coach, they will learn a lot and be in good hands.

I feel ya Mexitucky! I'm in the same boat. My oldest is loving the school and is already wearing Highlands stuff as a fifth grader. I took him to the game last Friday and on the way home he couldn't stop talking about Highlands winning. I will always be a Bred but that's the way it goes.

Very good hands. The numbers and success of the players(people) that they put on the field(streets) are hard to argue.....:thumb: I have heard 1st hand Dale Mueller preach that it really doesn't matter what kind of football player you turn out to be, it's what kind of young man you turn into when you leave his program. Period! He says the winning will take care of itself.....

He can't go anywhere until after the 100th anniversary in 2015...Mine will be a senior that year! Senior year, 100th anniversary of football at HHS... can't ask for anything bettter...ooops, unless it's another state champ ring to add to his collection...
