Harlan 38 Paintsville 37

Featured Replies

He is not impressive, just a product of 1 great game and A LOT of HYPE.

He is a very avg. player, not real quick or athletic, above avg. shooter but if you get physical and he DOES NOT got the FT line 8-12 times a game he can't score .

Anyone that says they would not want Landon Slone on their team is lying!!!

Unless of course, you are the type of player, or parent, that can't handle his presense!

I agree that his moves are not real quick, but, he is athletic and he is most definately better than average!

Quit kidding yourself, and making posts that only make you seem stupid or jealous.

And to the others that are stating the rediculous!!!

Paintsville is a solid, quick(usually) and yes, good team!

My take on the game is this, Harlan, is a good team, with size and quickness and get after you on defense!

Harlan had a gameplan, To slow the game to a crawl, and play hard defense, and not allow Paintsville to turn it into an up-n-down game. And for some reason(which I'll adress later as my own opinion) Painsville was ok with this tempo. Paintsville only got agressive with their press for about a minute during the latter stage of the first half and it resulted in 3 Harlan turnovers and three Tiger layups!!! I kept waiting on PHS to turn the heat up and try to pick the pace of the game up, but it never happened!!! IMO as to why!!! I am saying this jokingly(but half heartedly believe it!). Paintsville was dangerously close to peaking in the last two weeks, so BMR has decided to throw a few games and change the Tigers style of play in order to hold off "peaking" until March!!!

Final from WYMT Mountain Classic. Lowest scoring game in the history of the tournament.

For Paintsville:

J.D. VanHoose 10 pts

Daniel Pugh 9 pts

Landon Slone 9 pts

Shane Grimm 4 pts

Not sure on Harlan's stats.

Bundy had 5 points.

I might believe Pitino lost the SEC Championship to Arkansas on purpose as a motivator for winning his first NCAA National Championship. But there's no way BMR lost this game on purpose as part of a master plan for the season. The suggestion is laughable.

I will say that Slone is a very good high school player. He will play at the next level. At this point I'm thinking for a strong NAIA team. But he's just a sophomore. He may work his way onto an NCAA team. He really is good. On top of that, he's a good kid.

I was hoping not to have to waste my breath on such ridiculous commentary, but I could hardly keep my fingers from typing on this subject.

To suggest that Landon Slone is "not impressive" and is the "product of one game" is absolutely, fundamentally flawed. As a Freshmen, Landon averaged about 24 points on a team that had a very difficult season, he was 3rd team All State, and he won numerous awards. This year he has also proven to be a good leader, and a very significant scoring threat. What has impressed me this year is the quickness of his hands, and his ability to play more aggressive on defense.

As spectators, we need to remember that Landon is only a sophomore, and he is still growing, still getting stronger, and mostly is still learning the game that will provide for him a free college education.

If there is a way to not slander a kid on here, I would suggest someone implement that plan, otherwise, I find myself hardpressed not to be very agitated at many of the posts.

I hate that Landon had an off night as almost anyone else on here does as well, BUT to say he is not that impressive and is all hype just shows that you haven't seen Paintsville play much!! So while you are entitled to your opinion as everyone else is, try to only speak of what you know!!

As for last night, it would appear to me that Harlan's coaching staff just outcoached BMR and his bench of coaches!! Why else would you allow them to slow the game down and not try and change it! Defense got the Tigers through the Hoops Classic, but apparently they didn't use it last night! And to lose to a team that is without their best scorer on a boring type game as this is not acceptable!

If you get the attention that comes along with being "hyped" then you might as well accept that some of the attention is going to be negative. Landon is definitely overrated and his premature crowning as "king" by many Tiger faithful on this site have made the majority of other posters more critical of his game. Sometimes its better to keep quieet and let others tell you how good your team is than to say it yourself and then be proved wrong... There's no way the Tigers can live up to the expectation of many Paintsville posters, so when the criticism rolls in just sit back and know that you asked for it. :thumb:

I agree somewhat with you on many of your points. I disagree, however, on the point you made about defense. While I personally don't like the defense the Tigers play, simply because I like a more active, chaotic type over a containment defense, to suggest that the defense wasn't there for the Tigers is a little unexplainable considering Harlan's final point total. Have a good day.

Well, I am fine with criticism too, of "posters", but am against criticism and negativity towards a kid trying to play basketball -- no matter what school or team. I am fine with criticism of myself, because I am going into politics and I am more than used to it already. With that being said, much of the criticism would be thwarted if people put their actual names on their posts, but it seems only more evidentiary that people are a heck of a lot tougher when no one knows who they are.

I look forward to hearing why that you think Landon isn't a good basketball player, and how that you think he has received such praise across the state if it is just Paintsville people who are crowning him. Have a good night.

This post was actually about Paintsville and Landon Slone, and not you, but okay...

I never said Landon wasn't "a good basketball player"

I understand that the post wasn't about me, I was just making the point that I can handle it rather than a young kid who has no say as to what is being posted; no problem there. You didn't directly say he wasn't a good basketball player, but you certainly did suggest something along those lines. I was just asking you to let me know what parts of his game aren't living up to the hype. Thanks.

Landon Slone is a very, very , very good player!! Remember, he is only a sophomore. And while I still think Paintsville is very beatable outside of their gym, everyone around the 15th has been having games like this one where they just stink it up. This is what makes the 15th so great every year!! It is always wide open!!

I STILL CAN'T QUIT LAUGHING!

You need to get out more!

I think Harlan has Paintsville's number. They've made them look awful the last two years. I think they also beat them in the All "A" Classic the year that Paintsville won the state.

Oh well, they still won the one that mattered in 1996!!!!!! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
