Beechwood 43 Newport Central Catholic 14 (Frosh)

Beechwood went on a long opening drive to get things started and controlled the game from there on out. The Thoroughbreds fought hard as you know they will but the Tigers just had too much for them in this one. Here is your scoring summary:

Beechwood's QB Kyle Fieger to Brett Slusher for a 6 yard TD pass. The snap on the extra point was high and Fieger ran around left end for the 2 point converson. 2:25 to go in the first quarter, Beechwood 8 NCC 0.

NCC 3 and out. 1st quarter ended with the score 8-0.

Beechwood went on another long drive. A key play was a 28 yard pass from Fieger to Braden Combs. Fieger scrambled into the end zone from 7 yards out for the TD. German's extra point was good. Beechwood 15 NCC 0 4:46 to go in the half.

On NCC's next possession, they completed a 10 yard pass but Ethan Stringer stripped the ball from the receiver. Beechwood quickly moved down field and Fieger hit Slusher from 13 yards out for the TD. German's extra point was good. 22-0 with 3:15 to go.

NCC tried to pass the ball downfield but Cottingham intercepted it at the Beechwood 28. The Tigers were forced to punt. The Breds had a bad snap on 3rd down and the Tigers recovered at the 18. On the next play, Fieger hit Combs with a pass that was a little high and behind Combs, but he made a tremendous juggling catch on the ball as he twisted and fell in the end zone for the 18yard TD reception. German's extra point was good. BW 29 NCC 0 with 0:41 to go. That is how the half ended.

NCC 3 and out to open the second half. The Tigers offense kept on moving the ball. Bankemper ran the ball into the end zone from 2 yards out. German XP. BW 36 NCC 0 with 5:02 to go in the 3rd quarter.

NCC picked up a first down on a nice fake punt play but BW stopped the drive on downs. The Tigers brought their second team into the game and they fumbled on their first play. The Breds threw a 49 yard TD pass from QB Anderson to Jacob Smith. The Breds got 2 points when Powell ran the conversion in. BW 36 NCC 8 with 2:32 to go.

The Tigers brought their first team offense out again on the next drive and marched down field using the run to keep the clock moving. The drive ended in the 4th quarter with Stringer running it into the end zone from 12 yards out on a 4th down play. German XP made the score BW 43 NCC 8.

The Tigers let their 2's play the rest of the game. NCC started mixing in some of their 2's also. The Breds had a nice drive with back up QB Josh Schneider hitting Jacob Smith with an 8 yard TD pass. The 2 point try was no good. BW 43 NCC 14 2:56 to go. The Tigers second team was able to run out the clock from there.

It was an impressive performance all around by the Tigers. With Holy Cross not having a freshman team, Beechwood gets 2 weeks to prepare for a visit by the mighty Bluebirds on September 13. It looks like it might be one worth seeing.

Nice job Tigers!! Any time you beat a New Cath team that bad it says something. There is a lot of talent in that freshman team. That Highlands game should be fun.

Fantastic game report!!!

Nice job Tigers.

Thanks. It still seems a little long but a lot of points were scored.

I agree Guru. It would be nice if we could get more people doing game reports like TOG and Eye. Maybe some posters who are big fans can step up and post more detailed info like this for their teams. There have been a number of posts moaning about the loss of coverage from the Post, wanting more from the Enquirer, no Don Weber. Maybe posters on BGP can help fill the void.

A lot of members have agreed to do just that Voice but several of them are not delivering.

Indeed Eye did a outstanding job and I wish I could do more but I just don't have the time right now!

BTW just ask Eye how much time he spent doing his summary! My guess is about a 30 to 45 minutes, it he types like me! It takes a lot of work just not writing down the notes during the game but then putting it all together for the rest of you to read!

Theolduy tips his cap to you Eye!

Thank you. It was probably about 15-20 minutes to write. I will time myself on the one I write after Beechwood's game tomorrow and let those interested how long it takes.

Congrats to Bwood and nice job eye of the tiger! thumb[1].gif

TOG, totally meant my comment in a facetious manner. I appreciate anyone that takes the time to summarize the games for the rest of us.

Good win for the Tigers last night, it seems as though they are well stocked in the skill positions, not sure who the wideout was, believe #82, he looked really good in his routes and with his yards after catch. Highlands game should be a good one.
