Conner Assistant Coaches

Featured Replies

They certainly did not underachieve last season as they had no varsity experience returning and the kid that would have been PG didn't play. Last year's team battled.

I will agree that they did not underachieve last year given their lack of varsity experience, but steps were not taken the previous year to gain the experience. IMO you have to build the program. If that means that an underperforming upper classman sits, then reality check for that player. I know. trust me there are parents and other factors that go into coaches decisions on this stance, but the coaches have to be able to do what is best for the current year and the future. I hope these changes will be positive for the Conner program. If Bowman is coming from Ryle, that will be great. Good guy and good coach.

Coach Hicks at Georgetown camp didn't have any of his assistant coaches with him. Anyone heard why?

Coach Garnett resigned and accepted the varsity golf position at Conner. Coach Rowland resigned as well. Coach Padgett remains on staff as a varsity assistant and was with the team last week for the Georgetown camp. Coach Bowman has left the Ryle staff and has accepted the JV position at Conner.

My guess is that Coach Hicks might agree with you on that one. He rode a senior class and gave them the benefit of the doubt and not only did it bite him in the rear for that season it hurt a bit the next season. He won't make that mistake again.

Well played.

He did make it obvious he was in "no way close" to the program.

Robbie Hurst took the freshman job at Conner.

Good for Robbie. Conner 1993, right? Or is that another of the Hurst boys?

I believe Robbie was coaching the 8th grade team.

IMO it was time for a change at the JV level.

Hate to see Mr Rowland go. Really good guy.

Jason was'93. I think Robbie was around '96.

Robby is an 89 grad. He is the oldest in the family.

Battled?? They were 9-18 with some big time losses where they quit. Love how dudes spin things on this site.

The W/L record is not an indication of the level of effort. I watched them quite a few times last year and never saw the team quit. I might have witnessed a player quit but never the team. Yes, there were some UGLY losses but without a true PG getting the offense going that was not a shocker.

No spin.

Respect your opinion, but in defense of Coach Garnett, he did lead the JV team to the JV Championship just two short years ago.

Some get excited about JV championships. I do not as there are a lot of variables. However, in many cases it's not about W/L and championships. Sometimes you just need a new face and a new personality and some positive mojo.

Point taken.
