Popular senior denied diploma because of too much cheering

When the Principal says withhold the diploma, does that mean he isn't going to certify or sign papers saying the kid graduated? Can he even do that? If that is true, then there should be a major outcry about this. If it is about the paper, tell him to do you know what with it.

Kid didn't do anything wrong yet has to do 20 hours community service to get his diploma.

I read that in the link. When it says "get his diploma" are they just referring to the actual diploma itself? In the article, the kid was saying this is holding up college for him so that tells me it is more significant than just the paper diploma.

Yes, I believe most schools do. It sounds like the Principal is actually refusing to take some action that certifies the kid as an official graduate. That is much more serious than withholding the actual paper diploma IMO. However, if the kid has a signed diploma, then he should have documentation he can present to a college.

Colleges will want transcripts. If the high school withholds the transcripts, the kid won't get into a college. Of course, the fact that this high school graduate could barely read the principal's letter to him (on WCPO News), may have just as much bearing on his ability to get into a college.

I've sat through 5 graduations (3 high school and 2 college) over the last few years so I'm familiar with the cheering that goes on. It's certainly not my style but it doesn't bother me and hasn't seemed to hurt the ceremony.

 

Again, the kid did nothing wrong. He met the requirements to graduate and ,as the report says, has legally graduated.

 

The sup has embarrassed the school system IMO.

Don't blame the superintend who set forth the rules before the event by sending out letters with the invitations telling the guest that they were excepted to behave themselves and then again before the names were called out reminding the guest to behave themselves.

 

The student invited those who attended the event and he was responsible for them and they not the super let him down.

I agree that rules are rules, but do you honestly think an 18 year old kid can control how is guest are going to act when his name is called? There has to be a better punishment than denying the kid his diploma.

It isn't a cheap shot on my part, but an honest observation of the student's very apparent difficulties. And to answer your allegation...if it WAS a Highlands student, there would have been no need to make my observation in the first place.
