July 9, 201214 yr Tall Stacks does zippo for me. Zero interest. Of course I do have some mad vocal skills so.... ...The Reverend Al Green performed at the last Tall Stacks. I'd wager that woulda done something for ya, Clyde.
July 9, 201214 yr So did Wilco, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Rodney Crowell, Roseanne Cash, Buddy Guy, Del McCoury Band, John Hiatt, Dr. John, Dr. Ralph Stanley, Old Crow Medicine Show, and Rhett Miller to name a few others. Tall Stacks '06 was fantastic. I hope they can make the next one as good.
July 9, 201214 yr Last year Lexington got the Equestrian games and thie year Cincinnati got the Chior Games. I think it is great, though I did not attend the EG and do not intend to go to the CG. I hope it goes well. I am a bit surprised it is not getting more press.
July 12, 201214 yr Since I was unable to be with FIBA for the u17 this summer I was able to get on to help the Choir Games, it's been great! Since I go to Romania a bit I helped out a choir from Bucharest, they won the sliver medal in their two competitions. I have attended some of the other events as well and it's a very good time! China has 58 choirs with over 2,000 people competing. Add 64 countries from six continents and 15,000 competitors, it's a very big deal! Not only the economic impact, but the exposure the city and area is getting from around the world! Many competitors say they would love to come back to this area, they will tell others about the city as well. The competitors have been thrilled by the friendliness of the city, the sites and how easy it is to get around. It's been mentioned on every national nightly news, and Good Morning America was here Monday covering the event. Not sure why some never heard of the WCG until recently, they have been talking about it for three years, I think it's that just recently some people realized how big the event is, it's the biggest/largest in the history of Cincinnati. The Games have exceeded expectations, all competitions have been packed, competitors have said they liked this area more than previous cities, it's been the best and biggest Games they ever had! Cincinnati won the Games over 19 other bidding cities, the WCG committee selected this area for the history of the arts in the area, the venues, and the closeness of the venues to each other to name a few. There is already talk that the area has been asked to inquire about hosting the American International Choral Festival, as well as to put in a bid for the Games in the future. There are free "friendship concerts" throughout the area, one today at the Erlanger branch of the Kenton Co library at 6:30pm, and Newport on the Levee at 7:30pm
July 14, 201214 yr A friend of mine alleges that the "competitors" are being shuttled & housed near Xavier and provided 3 meals per day. Can anyone confirm that?
July 14, 201214 yr A friend of mine alleges that the "competitors" are being shuttled & housed near Xavier and provided 3 meals per day. Can anyone confirm that? Yes, some choirs are at Xavier and some are at UC, depends on what type of package the choirs wanted. I know all choirs staying downtown get 2 meals per day at the convention center, others in hotels outside of downtown get 1 meal a day at the convention center with breakfast provided by their hotel. I would say those at X and UC are getting 2 meals a day there. If anyone is in Louisville I would highly suggest to go out and see The Pride of Kentucky if you have a chance. It's a barbershop style choir with about 40 women, VERY GOOD!
July 14, 201214 yr SG, a friend of mine is in Muse, a Cincy group. She's been with them for 10 years now. I believe they're performing as well. Let me know if you see them!
July 15, 201214 yr SG, a friend of mine is in Muse, a Cincy group. She's been with them for 10 years now. I believe they're performing as well. Let me know if you see them!
