Insight Cable Drops WDRB

Featured Replies

So I just found out our Insight Cable has dropped WDRB Fox 41 from their channel lineup. We watched a lot of shows on that channel...not to mention Fox NFL Sunday and the Super Bowl.

Has anyone else experienced this? Are you keeping your insight subscription? I am not really sure if we will or not.

Anyone have experience with other tv/internet providers?

I'm probably going to end up in a ditch over this!

Less channels? Shouldn't we get a reduction in our bill?

I hate em all!

Prices should drop if all things were fair...but I doubt they will. I may end up hanging out with Phil Shiftley

BTW it's not Insight it's Time Warner. While they might still use the Insight name, Time Warner owns Insight now!

Even thought the cable company who we purchase our product from is now Time Warner, we former Insight customers don't receive the benefits of the buy out.

If you have Insight Internet you can view the ESPN3 offerings but not the rest of the ESPN Family of shows, however if your a Time Warner subscriber anyplace else but in Kentucky you get the entire network.

Was told all in good time but.....

That's why I switched, I've yet to hear good things about Time Warner.

I wonder if this is a Time Warner issue? I have been hearing rumblings that they are starting to influence Insight with changes.

We did get MLB Network as a result of the takeover. That's a plus.

Story about the dispute.

Time Warner has been willing to wait in TV disputes | Indianapolis Star | indystar.com

Friday morning Mandy Connell was talking about this on her show. She said it was her understanding that WDRB was asking for more money and TW wasn't willing to pay the increase. She also asked that if that wasn't correct that someone from WDRB please call in and correct her. I listened for about another hour and no one called in.

1. Why would WDRB not be carried on the Time Warner system (formerly Insight Communications)?

After decades of permitting cable and satellite companies to rebroadcast its television stations for free, WDRB has completed agreements with the cable companies that carry its signals in which the cable companies have agreed to compensate WDRB for the excellent news, sports and entertainment programming its stations provide. The cable and telephone companies have also agreed to carry our additional over-the-air digital channels. Time Warner Cable is refusing to pay the fair market price for a FOX station. That amount is two cents per day.

5. Is WDRB being greedy by asking for an increase?

WDRB is asking for the same amount they received from Insight Communications with increases in 2013 and 2014 to mirror the rate increases imposed by WDRB's programmers which is based on the cable subscriber numbers. That is fair.

So if the stations pulls themselves like they seem to have done in this case from the Cable company and the majority of it's customers view the station via the Cable company like it seems they do, shouldn't the TV station start rebating to their advertisers an amount of money that they the advertisers paid to the station to be viewed by a certain amount of viewers?

Seems to me if I paid the WDRB to show my ad on their TV station, then more than the WDRB, the cable viewers and or the cable company, I the advertiser paying to have my ad seen, is being ripped off more than anyone? :idunno:

I'm guessing they will start losing advertisers. At which point they will have to lower their asking price to Time Warner.

That is probably what TW is hoping for. The article referenced an NBC affiliate in TX who was off of TW for months.
