June 5, 201214 yr Just saw this thread. Glad to hear she's doing as well as can be expected. A 10 hour surgery is brutal. Not to discount the stress of the patient and her family, but can you imagine performing a surgery for that long? Wow!
June 5, 201214 yr Author Some really great news today...she actually gets to go home today. Considering she had a doctor operating in her brain less than 4 days ago, that's pretty darn incredible. Even the doctors are astonished. The occupational/physical therapists mutually decided yesterday that she was doing so well that she wouldn't need any therapy - which is relatively rare given the procedure, so today her doctors decided to allow her to go home and continue the recovery process there. The doctors will be calling the family with final biopsy results in a day or so (from all appearances, the tumor seemed to be benign, so they are optimistic about betting back good results). Now she will go into the process of having the remainder of the tumor treated and monitored. With a lot of luck, it can be shrunken down or even treated to the point that the tumor just "dies". Again, thank you everyone so much for your prayers. They've meant a lot to me, personally, and meant far far more to this young lady and her family.
June 5, 201214 yr Great news that she is alright. Mason County juat had a basketball player go through the same thing and now he is doing great also. There are miracles.
September 6, 201214 yr Author I'd like to share some more great news about this situation. Today she went back for a MRI scan of her tumor, hoping to hear that there was no growth of the residual amount of the tumor left following the surgery. Instead the scan revealed NO EVIDENCE OF A TUMOR AT ALL. The doctors were thrilled to share the news, and said that this can happen with grade I tumors. There was some initial question about the pathology of this tumor to begin with, in that we weren't sure if it was a grade I or a grade II (with a II being more serious). Today's information seems to confirm that it was a grade I. The doctors themselves admitted that they were surprised with the results. They will continue to monitor her with scans every 3 months, but this was the best possible news they could have ever received given the situation. Thank you so much to everyone on here for your prayers!
