Are you going to stand by that statement? You saying the kids that play club/select/travel/AAU, who are essentially playing year round, aren't any better than kids that only play in HS?

I'm pretty sure at any HS, in any sport, it's easy to see who is playing their sport more than just in HS. For every kid you say is burnt out, I can show you 5 who love it and can't get enough.

In some cases, yes. In others, no.

See, I read it the other way. AAU/Club/select/travel teams I think teach more about commitment and team than any HS ever could. The practices are tougher, the demands across the board are higher, and so is the reward. Everyone on the team gives a darn, otherwise they wouldn't be there. You can't say that about many HS teams. Someone posted somewhere on here awhile back that you used to play AAU/Club/select/travel to stay in shape and get ready for HS tryouts. Now, it's the other way around. And I'm fine with that.

All these statements from a girl getting hurt. Would you have been upset if she was practing and got hurt? I am sure she didn't go play with the attentions of getting hurt. Almost everyone wants their teammates to play more and then someone gets hurt and everyone wants to say where is their commitment to their team. Very few HS softball teams show any type of commitment for their players. Most summer teams that have kids in HS don't start until the HS season is over, is this girl a middle schooler playing up for her HS. When my daughter was in middle school she played HS and travel ball bc her team was from OH and their middle schoolers couldn't play HS so of course they wanted to play. If she had to choose one of the other it would have been one of the easiest decisions of her life and yes I said HERS. Her travel ball team and I love HS sports but I would have supported it 100%

 

The fact of the matter is AAU, travel ball etc is here to stay and is no way going away. People need to get with the program or HS sports will be hurt in the long run. There are top soccer players all around the country that don't play HS any more. If HS don't find away to work with AAU teams then the top players just won't play HS much longer.

 

There are different levels of travel ball/AAU and yes not everyone is going to get a scholarship but if you don't play travel ball your chances go from not good to almost zero. There are seveal girls in NKY this year that had great HS careers and IMO probably could have got better offers from colleges but didn't play at a high enough level in summer ball. I haven't seen Ginn from Walton play in years but from all reports I have heard she is still a top level player, and she is the career hits leader in the state of KY and the best she got was a walkon to Morehead, that's not bad but I bet if she would have stepped it up and played on a better travel team she would have got a better offer. And I bring up Ginn bc she is good and I wouldn't think there is anyone in the area more dedictated to her school than the Ginn family.

I agree, and all I will say is....if everyone was agreement, she should play where she wants. If your HS team is dependent on ONE sole player, then you aren't going to be very competitive anyhow. I'm sure the last thing she wanted was to get hurt and have to go through surgery with EITHER team, but the loss of this particular team wasn't because of pitching or lack of pitching...it was defensive errors. I don't know if any of Mason's 12 runs were earned or unearned...but there were countless errors...missed fly balls, overthrows, etc. This team played the best defense I've seen them play all year for the first four innings...then it just fell apart.

 

I agree, AAU seems to be the only way to get your kid the year round instruction they need to improve, plus the extra playing experience. Heck, we only played 24 HS games...with summer rec league, my kid MIGHT play 30 games this year...it's just not enough to keep ahead of the competition...

Maybe it just seened like endless errors after the two out inning where i thought hanna was gonna get her first career shutout....haha! Ah well...cant wait til next year...i miss it already. Will be there tomorrow for a good game though:)
