May 17, 201214 yr Author My question about Hamilton is his bat ... a low-pop guy that strikes out 130+ times in Low-A ball has a ways to go as a hitter, no matter how fast he is. Are you a Reds fan is my first question? It sounds like you just said you are in a previous post but I just want to make sure...Its nice to be able to get excited over certain players as a fan for the future, every prospect has question marks thats what makes them a prospect...Much of the nation is drooling over Billy Hamiltons Speed, improved switch hitting ability and incredible range in the field...He switch hits and slaps the ball around and will be a lead off hitter he doesnt need pop...His hit tool is compared to Jose Reyes and he could actually hit around 10 HRs a year in the Bigs...He has 16 BBs and 27 Ks on the year and a +.400 obp so far, he seems to improve every year...
May 17, 201214 yr Author Two dingers tonight for the Jersey boy. So happy for him one of my favorite Reds to come up in a long time...Once thought of the best of the best in the Reds system and he plays a very big position of need for the Reds...He could set himself up for a bright future if he can continue producing this year for the Reds slumping offense...Hoping for more days like today for the young man...If he gets hot while playing everday here during this opportunity he is given he could put up the numbers that many experts thought he would put up for the Reds a few years back...

Hamilton has six homers in 1,100+ minor league ABs ... he's going to have a hard time hitting 10 a year in the majors. And, as I said, his high-strikeout total in Low-A ball is something to warrant some concern. As for this year ... we're barely a month into the season and he is playing in a hitters' league. I'd give him at least a half-season at High-A before even thinking about a move up. Hamilton ... compared to Reyes? At age 20, Reyes was playing Triple-A ball and was later promoted to the Mets. Hamilton, at age 20, was playing Low-A ball. No comparison.
May 17, 201214 yr Author 2 more BBs and 3 more steals for Billy tonight so far...Dont matter if its a hitters league or not too walk and steal...

Hamilton was an athlete on scholarship to play footballat Miss St. he was raw in baseball skills...He is progressing way better than was expected...Didi is at AA and Cozart at AAA he is not being rushed...He started out very slow the first few months last year hitting around. 220 and finished near. 280...Since then he has matured a ton as a hitter, he is not ready for ML pitching but if he was being rushed he could hold his own in AA and still be above average in AAA...Reyes is a freak, Hamilton isnt there yet but that his most accurate comp...

Does Dusty or Walt know you sent Cozart down? :D
May 17, 201214 yr I don't see the an issue with Hamilton's lack of pop. He is going to be a slap hitter most likely. The strikeouts are a bit of a problem. 2009: K every 3.5 AB 2010: K every 5 AB 2011: K every 4.5 AB 2012: K every 5.8 AB For comparison a couple of the best LO hitters in the game right now. Elvis Andrus K every 7.6 AB this year and 6.7 for his career Michael Bourn K every 5.6 AB this year and 4.6 for his career Rafael Furcal k every 9.1 AB this year and 7.0 for his career As you can see Hamilton has gotten better over the years and I see no reason why he can't continue that to a manageable level.
