Barnette gets release from Central Florida

A UVA education is tough to top.

No doubt. He's set himself up nicely for a strong future.

His sister also plays basketball at UVA. If you remember Sarah Beth from her season at UK.

I thought she transferred to West Va.

Seems odd people were talking about Pikeville and Bellarmine as landing spots for this kid ..the implication I read into that was he wasn't a D1 talent...then he winds up at Virginia? Did he get a full ride?

Those people don't know basketball.

Taylor Barnette commits to Virginia

Lexington Christian senior sharpshooter Taylor Barnette, who was recently released from his national letter-of-intent at Central Florida, has committed to Virginia. The 6-foot-3 Barnette, a third-team All-State selection, visited Virginia and picked the Cavaliers over a host of schools. He took unofficial visits to Miami (Ohio) and Kentucky and was also looking hard at Dayton and Samford.

“Love the coaching staff, the players, it’s the ACC and my sister is here,” said Barnette, whose sister – Sarah Beth – played as a freshman at UK before transferring to Virginia. “It’s a great overall fit.”

Barnette is considered the best senior shooter in the state and was one of the top 10 seniors in the Bluegrass State last season.

Barnette was a third-team Courier-Journal All-State selection as a senior despite a foot injury in early January that sidelined him. He averaged 20 points and eight rebounds a game and said his injury is “100 percent.”

From a playing perspective IMO BU would be better for him. However, I fully get the idea that kids want to play at the highest level. I see this young man in a similar role as Brad Redford at XU. He will get spot minutes in a role of sharpshooter and have the chance to hit key shots. Nothing wrong with that at all.
