April 19, 201214 yr There was a lot of misinformation being spread during Pujols' courtship, primarily by his agent, who was looking to score that mega-contract and save face for himself and his client. The Marlins' offer was exaggerated, among other things, and his agent made sure to drop the names of several teams that appeared to be interested.

Westsider could be right and the ESPN guy could be right as well. The Reds were never ever mentioned before very recently. I would hope his agent was doing that to get him a better contract. However you don't upset the best player on your team that you just gave a huge contract to by saying yeah we tried to replace him a few months ago. At least I wouldn't.
