I thought Grant County had a policy that both the boys head basketball and head football coaches HAD to be teachers in the district. Is that incorrect?

 

Quite possible, but I dont think Coach Hicks is actually a teacher at Grant is he? I know he works at the school but I am not sure what hes exact duties are. Perhaps its a policy that they work in the district. I know when Coach Kinmon was their, he worked at the alternative school and not directly at the High School.

Coach Hicks I believe is in charge of the computer based classes which students take if the classes are not available at the high school. After talking with some folks the assistants under the previous admin did not apply for the job last year but instead quit because of the lack of support from the admin. But I do believe you coach for the kids and the fact that you love coaching. GC has never supported their coaches so this should have been no surprise to any veteran GC coach. I still believe they left our boys out to dry and hand cuffed the new coach. There is a way to send a message without using the kids as your weapon.

If, and I say if, he wasn't "doing his job in the classroom" then that is where strong leadership from your admin team steps in to help the individual make improvements. You don't fire someone before their first year is over. If he was that bad, then the guy who hired him should be fired for being incompetent in the hiring process. I know David Arvin and he is a fine teacher. He taught at one of the most prestigious public schools in Ga. and had great reviews by his administrators. This whole thing just stinks. You just don't put someone and their family out on their butt after one year. Grant County is obviously a horrible place to work right now. New leadership is needed.

If he taught the same class at Washington Co and they interviewed all of those administrators and they thought he could do the job, I find it hard to believe he couldn't do it at Grant Co. I have talked to numerous kids who said it was Coach Arvin who helped them increase their math scores and helped them through tough days. Coming up on 3 weeks and still no job advertised for a football coach. There is a new advertisement on the district website for a girls varsity basketball coach, after all basketball season is right around the corner.

I have talked to some people at Washington Co and he wasn't a very good teacher there. Why didn't he try to get the job there? You have to teach at this day and time unless you are a proven winner and then it isn't easy to get a job where you don't have to teach unless you are a Dudley Hilton, Sam Harp, Bob Redmond and etc... These guys are retired and have won state titles. Sounds like the Boosters needs to stay out of Grant Co athletics. I am sure they have better facilities than we do here and Bell County. They need to find someone how works hard, play defense and gets the kids to do the same. I don't think that a coach that runs the Tony Franklin system is the answer for a program to work hard and be successful at Grant Co. JMO

You have said it right about the TF system colleges are using it. They have athletes and are able to play defense. I amnot a fan of the TF system. Not bashing just hope that all is well with GC and good luck to Coach Arvin he will find a job there are many positions out there.

That is exactly why, if run correctly, it is an explosive offense. It is tough to find 4 to 5 great DB's in high school and if you have a good QB, he will find the weak DB and abuse him all night. The system needs to be run for at least 2 years though, to get the QB trained and the WR's to know their options. Good luck to your team as well.

Except for the 2 championships it has won here in kentucky and at least 8 runner up finishes here in kentucky. There are high school teams all over america running and winning championships with TFS.

2nd year is almost always better. Grant county just shot themselves in the foot.

Mayfield, Lone Oak, LCA, Etown and Owensboro Catholic are all or until recently all were Air Raid/TFS schools. I'll agree it doesn't fit all schools, coaches or areas. It often does take a good 2 years or so to "get it" as a player.

It is mildly amusing but not for the kids that the powers that be ran out a good coach and a QB that Guru mentioned in another thread is good enough to play against the athletes at Colerain. How many current GCHS players are on that level? It wasn't too long ago that some people down there thought that QB was terrible. Good decisions left and right down there by the people in charge.

School is out Monday and still no coach. The AD told the kids 2 weeks ago he hoped to name someone by this past Friday. Another case of "we don't care" by the administration. If you know people are waiting for an announcement then tell them when they can expect one and if that day comes and goes then give them updates. This admin thinks they do not have to answer to any parents. They are arrogant and know nothing about sports or how to properly educate our kids. I know they read these blogs, after all they don't spend the time educating , so hello administration!!! I believe we are the only school in Kentucky without a head coach or an assistant on staff. They do care though, just ask them.
