Agree on all points Sandman and anyone that paints Boone in a bad light for this definitely has their Cougar Gear on.

In other words Boone County made the best financial decision for Boone County?

Absolutely correct. It would be difficult for the band to make their concession dollars and the girls softball would not get any split the pot revenue. There is a lot of financial factors to consider that most people would not understand. I think most casual HS fans would rather go to a school instead of Nippert, unless it was a game between nationally ranked traditional high school programs?

How much money does Boone make off of their gate for a home game?

This.

Not trying to pick a fight with you, since your post is accurate.

But, Conner is giving up nothing with this offer. Conner was playing with house money in making the offer. Can't lose what you won't have anyway, and maybe you gain a nuetral site out of the deal.

Side note, if I were a casual fan living near these schools and doing nothing else, I'd be MUCH more likely to attend this game if it's played at the high school.

That would be the case for every visiting team then wouldn't it?

With the exception that the visiting teams playing in the Showdown do not defer their money to the other team.

Is it your belief that teams should not agree to move their games to this type of venue?

Just curious.

I agree, I would much rather go to Boone for a game than over to Nippert.

First of all, you're not just curious. You're trying to somehow spin this into a Boone County is the bad guy thread, and it's not going to fly.

Reread what you bolded in my last post. I can't be more clear than that. Conner had everything to gain and nothing to lose. As others have pointed out, Boone stood to lose on gate, concessions, and other fundraising.

Lastly, you don't care what I believe, but since you asked I will give you an answer. This event was created as Cincinnati v NKY showcase, where teams agreed to play and then matchups were determined. A good idea, that for whatever reasons has gone by the wayside recently.

I don't like the idea of this particular classic watering down the event to the point of using satellite sites, three or more days, and trying to move existing rivalries to new sites to help it's own bottom line. And if I'm an AD or coach, there's no way I do it.

I've got much more on the "classic" or "bowl" concept in general terms. But specifically to this thread, Boone did absolutely the best thing for it's school and program.

I asked someone from Conner what the teams were offered to play in the game and was told quote, "Over $3000 per team from what I understand."

Let's assume Conner uses the house money and gives their share to Boone and let's assume each team gets $3500 for a total of $7000 to Boone.

Now let's assume there is a minimum of 2000 people that attend the game at Boone at the price of $5 for adults and $3 for students. That would be at least $7000 if not more in gate receipts. Add to that all the additional revenue made on concessions and the like and Boone definitely comes out ahead and they have a home game instead of a game at a neutral site.

I think what is really going on here is Coach Trosper from Conner wants to promote his star QB on a bigger stage, Boone told them they want to keep the home game for financial reasons and the blow back from Conner supporters is nothing but sour grapes...

There is not much difference between what they would clear with Conner's share vs what they clear at a home game against Conner.

Boone doesn't want to lose a home game which is fine. I might not either if I thought it gave me an advantage.

By the way, I agree with Sandman that the Crosstown has lost it's initial allure. I got to watch my son play in it against good GCL teams which was nice. Simply moving a NKY vs NKY team to UC doesn't fit the "classic" mode. The only positive I see is that it's cool for the kids to play at Nippert.

Guru's "sour grapes" is a bit much but I'm sure there are parents from both teams that would get a kick out of seeing their boy play at UC. No doubt both teams' players (not just one trying to "showcase") would like it. They could care less about the $$ involved. They just know it would be cool.

I don't know what actual attendance is at a game like this and I estimated high on the take from the "bowl game" so if anything this is the low end of how Boone would come out.

And I am sure there are parents from Boone County that would much rather see the game played in Florence.

$3K per team. I'm sure when the Cincy powers play against national ranked teams the $$$ get bigger due to a larger potential gate. Can't please everyone.

So my estimate of 7K was high, it would be 6K, all the more reason Boone made the right decision.

Also, those Cincy powers normally have much bigger home gates so of course the payout is going to be larger. The events are in place to make money, end of story, and the event powers that be have to make sure they give the teams enough money in guarantees to soften the blow they will have by losing a home gate payday.

And I don't think it about pleasing everyone, its dollars and sense. Why should Boone, or any other KY school, give it away? If schools can afford to give it away they need to cease all fundraisers for starters.

This is a side issue but I think two KY teams playing a game in another state is stupid.

I would bet that the football program/athletics program does not make a lot more than $6k for a Conner/Boone game.

Agreed.

The ticket prices for the games at UC are over 10 dollars a Boone County home game is right around 5 dollars big difference for a fan that has to pay for a family to get in to watch their kid play.
