  1. I likely exaggerated, calling it one of the worst tragedies in modern history. Globally and nationally we've seen a lot. It's not like this was Chernobyl. But, Kentucky had two huge tragedies in about 11 years that changed laws around the globe. This was one of them, as fire laws changed drastically as a result. The bus crash in 88 was the other. Changed DUI laws and changed the way school buses are designed forever.
  2. Some serious competition on the luxury apartment genre these days. Although I'm guessing those at the Banks are mostly full, I don't know. A bunch of new ones just opened up on the Covington Riverfront, some with a view that is AWESOME. I agree patio homes may have been a better choice, but what do I know. How this development is handled/received is going to be very interesting. As there should be, a lot of emotion is still involved 40 years later. One of the worst tragedies in modern history happened in NKY that night. I mean, that's a lot of people.
  3. Outstanding official, one of the best in the business. This is well deserved. He also a first class guy.
  4. Outside of the organized sports we all played, we did occasionally get in a game of tennis ball in the street (wiffle ball w a tennis ball, we used racket balls sometimes.) Never used a wiffle ball, I don't know why. used wball bats and really taped them up.I guess we tampered before it was a thing. Kick the can was the game of choice in my neighborhood at age 10.
  5. Love some Hometown Pizza, always good. Carrollton location is always busy, but always worth stopping by for a order if I'm in the area.
  6. Never had a Cuban, sounds good but hard to find a good one?? Steak Hoagie and Italian for me. Funny thing though, I'm not sure I've ever had a good or bad one. They mostly seem the same. Maybe a thread on best of each would help?? For steak hoagie, I've had all the area pizza places offerings. None stand out. None were terrible. For the Italian, mostly see above. I do give a slight edge here to Salvadore's in Erlanger. Maybe it's the dressing, maybe the bread, but there is a difference.

  8. Easy one for me, lasagna. A good meat lasagna is one of my favorite entrees of all time
  9. Lots of stories like this in the early to mid 70's for sure. The playoffs were too exclusive back then. IMO, Ky. got it right when they went to 4 classes and two teams from each district made it. 6 classes now, and 2 per district I think would be a good number. Ohio had similar things happen with the harbin ratings. Undefeated teams missed the playoffs. Ohio allowed only the top 2 in each region in the playoffs for the longest time, upped it to 4, and even then left 9-1 teams out. I think with multiple classes, there should be a fair measuring stick for making the postseason (top 2 in a district) But for perspective sake, think about this there was a few years back in the 70's that NKY class 3A looked something like this: Highlands, CovCath, Newport, Newport Catholic, Lloyd, Conner, and only 1 team made the playoffs. Years would have been 75ish to 80ish. Dixie and Holmes may have bounced into that mix a few times as well.
  10. Shortage nationally, and in virtually every sport. Major shortage in some parts of Ky. in some sports. Shortage should have little to do with money, as the pay is awfully good for a second income. But, the work isn't easy either. As with any shortage in a profession, that means there is a opportunity to move up quickly.
  11. I don't know for sure, but I would almost guarantee this game wasn't televised live in Cincinnati. Likely not televised live in LA either, though a better chance. MLB owners were reluctant tollow the televising of all games, fearing the damage it would do to them in attendance. This game could have been televised live in LA and blacked out in Cincy. It may not have been telecast at all. It was a mid September, Friday night game and the Reds were all but finished in terms of playoffs. Cincinnati, Friday night, mid September, Reds are playing out the season. Guess what everyone was talking about, football and Friday night HS football, that night. I know the Cubs had WGN, and the Braves had TBS, but during the 80's you couldn't just turn on a game except for those two. I think that slowly changed baseball in a good way.
  12. Really liked the first 4 episodes. Liked parts 3 and 4 better than 1 and 2. Loved hearing from Ron Harper on the Cleveland game 5 shot. Loved Jordan's take on Ehlo guarding him.. Favorite music so far, LL "I'm bad." Jordan has used the headache story a few times over the years, he may have even mentioned it in his HOF speech. I would have never put together the Space Jam piece if you guys hadn't mentioned it. Thanks. It is pretty clear now
  13. Inevitable, but still a shame. Reading between the lines, the season was more or less cancelled when UK closed their facilities through June several weeks ago and the KHSAA didn't start shopping for a alternative state site for track or tennis.
  14. Just my two cents, but I think some supers in Ohio are looking at splitting their schools in half, and one blue days, the blue students are in the building and the White students are doing NTI. On White days, it gets flipped. On each 10 day cycle, all kids are in 5 days and in NTI 5 days. Keeps the school at 50 percent enrollment and allows for social distancing as classrooms would only be half full. That's what I think they are talking about. Under that plan, no sports in the Fall.
