  1. If a student has four grades - 100, 100, 100, and a 0, are they a C student? After 7 games, if they have six 100s and a 0, are they a B student? That's what the math says, although after seven grades it appears to be a much more accurate grade of the student. Bottom line, the more data the better the ranking. If the RPI came out for the first time after Week 7, it might not be perfect, but it would be a lot closer to reality than it is today.
  2. Just because I was curious, I went to check this on Calpreps since they have a strength of schedule rating. Neither schedule was rated super strong, but they have Woodford playing a tougher one. The win out in California was better than anyone Pulaski has beat. Mix in Danville being rated 11,000th and the worst opponent for Woodford being ranked 7,000th and I guess that's how you get those ratings. All that said, I think this is a good test for Pulaski. We're used to the Maroons being near the top of Class 5A but they haven't been for a few years. If they are taking that step forward this year - and I think they are - then this is a game that should be very competitive.
  3. To the original post, this is the Butler/PRP issue. However, if this happened between two neighboring counties in western Kentucky or two former coal towns playing 1A football in eastern Kentucky, no one would be saying to remove your kids from those schools. JCPS has a lot of faults and that makes it a pretty easy target when it comes to placing blame. I'm not sure
  4. Barren is absolutely not the second best team in 6A. You say it is a flawed formula - I've literally said the exact same thing in multiple threads this week. We agree! Boyle is absolutely not the fourth best team in 4A. They should be rewarded for their win against St. Edward but the RPI reality is its no different than had they beat Jellico (TN). Not sure the third point is relevant to this discussion but it would be interesting to see what a 4-class RPI might look like.
  5. Note the theoretically in my original post. It should work that way, but it really doesn't.
  6. Not exactly sure of their methodology, but here is a link to how Calpreps' ratings work: https://calpreps.com/ratings.htm And for the sake of this discussion, here are the rankings this week. RPI on the left, Calpreps on the right. I think you can guess which one is more accurate (although 6A RPI is probably as close to correct as any class this week). Ryle --- TRINITY Barren County --- MALE Manual --- ST. XAVIER Bullitt East --- MANUAL Male --- FREDERICK DOUGLASS Madison Central --- RYLE Trinity --- BRYAN STATION Oldham County --- GREAT CROSSING St. Xavier --- MADISON CENTRAL Frederick Douglass --- BALLARD
  7. Theoretically incentivizes you to play a tough schedule, which is reinforced by the team you play also playing a tough schedule.
  8. While I know what you mean, just to clarify, it doesn't determine playoff seedings. Those are based on district games in the regular season. It does determine pairings and home-field advantage in the third and fourth round. I highly doubt Barren County is playing at that point - and the RPI will likely have changed at that point as well. However, the math formula is definitely a bit wonky.
  9. If #29 PRP played #2 Barren County today, wonder who would win?
  10. It's heart is in the right place, and it tends to get better as the season progresses, but it is just a really bad metric.
  11. Outside of Bryan Station and one of Trinity/Male, I think every ranked team at least has the potential to lose this weekend. Should be a fun Friday.
  12. Eh, this isn't the same J-town team as last year. Not many yards in the win against Iroquois, good yards but not many points against Shawnee - and those are two of the lower-tier JCPS teams. Then barely scraping by Breckinridge County? I like what Ellison is doing at Jeffersontown but Holy Cross is far and away the best team they've played and it was reflected in the result.
  13. This is an unbelievable score. I thought Fort Campbell had improved but didn’t expect anything like this. Madisonville had looked so good the first few weeks.
