  1. This is the least excited I’ve been about two teams in a Super Bowl since the Packers/Steelers Super Bowl.
  2. Cal is right that championship level teams typically don’t play zone. The Boeheim Syracuse teams specifically recruited for the 2-3. They got long, athletic guys that could get into passing lanes, close out on shooters quickly, obstruct shots, trap in the 1/2 court and chase down loose balls since rebounding is tougher out of a zone. They sacrificed a lot of other things to recruit those type of kids but it worked out for them. UK doesn’t have those type of kids but at this point they could benefit from going some zone just as a change up. Because right now everyone being able to prepare for man to man is resulting in 90 plus point games.
  3. As has been pointed out already by someone else Casey won 10 games and made a region championship game in 2016. Won 10 games again in 2017. Then won 8 in 2018. I’m sure those teams had some good players too. But we do agree that Casey is not a powerhouse program. There’s no doubt about that. Losing one player in football isn’t as devastating. Tennessee lost Peyton Manning and won a national championship the year after. We also agree that Casey should never really beat Lincoln. But they have won three in a row. 2016, 2022 and 2023. But, that one win doesn’t move the needle for me compared to the previous year for the facts I stated before.
  4. If Lincoln is getting a new principal next year then that will be another reason why established head coaches wouldn’t want the job now. And another reason that Levi is the guy. As for the other comments. Willoughby was an excellent football and basketball player. I’m not sure about him being the best player in recent memory at Casey but I do know that the two sports are different. One player can impact basketball more. With that being said by looking at the KHSAA Scoreboard Casey lost 5 of their top 6 scorers in basketball from last year. Casey football team had the majority of the starters returning from an 8 win district champion that beat 3 teams with a winning record. They had a losing record this year with all those guys returning and lost to a 3 win Garrard team to finish 3rd in the district and they didn’t beat anyone with a winning record. In football that’s more than just losing one particular player. And I don’t think that’s rebuilding. I do think with what they lost Casey basketball is rebuilding this year. Casey football will be rebuilding next year after losing so much this year.
  5. Brown also lit it up early. LC struggled with Boyle’s athleticism. This is going to be an interesting rematch if it happens in the district tournament.
  6. What you say is true about Casey not being in rebuild mode this last season. Casey had the majority of their starters back this past season from their only district championship season in 2022. They also had a much easier district this past year than the one they won in 2022 and they finished 3rd this year. I do think Levi will have a shot at the Lincoln job because I’m not sure how much interest it’s going to get with the parent spectacle and the fact that they are likely going to be in the same district as Boyle for the foreseeable future. That alone will likely keep any established head coaches away. Levi may end up being the best that they can do right now.
  7. I agree. Also, Stonebraker didn’t apply for the job. His son will be a Senior next year and likes it at Adair so he will be staying. Not all small schools and not all large schools are built the same. Some have better talent, resources, etc. Pikeville is a 1A school that judges success much different than many 6A schools. The talent at Woodford is much different now than when Stonebraker was there. After he left there I believe they went on the state’s longest losing streak for a time so that tells me he was getting the most out of what he had.
  8. Who made the decision for Glasgow to play up in 3A? They were 2A enrollment and would have been in the Green, Metcalfe, Monroe, Clinton district. They would likely still be playing if they stayed in 2A. Especially with a Senior dominant team. I never understood that decision at all.
  9. That will be tough for them. But that’s not near as tough as the schedule they have been playing.
  10. Bullitt East and Bryan Station could be a sneaky good game tonight!
  11. This will be a tough job. Coach Smart did a fantastic job at Grayson. Got them to Region title games. He had to be the winningest coach in school history there. Best of luck to him!
  12. Better days will be ahead for Warren Central. I know they played a ton of young kids this year. The streak will end. The short term question is are they building numbers at Moss and in the young groups. The long term question for 2021-2022 is when these young kids get older can they get to compete with G’wood, East, AC-S, Logan, R’ville and pull off a winning season to build momentum for a real turnaround. I sure hope so. I hate that I’m even about to say this but I think it’s in the best interest of the program to end the series with BG. It’s not even a rivalry anymore and the game is a disservice to the kids at Central. That is one more possible winnable game that can be put on the schedule for those kids.
  13. Casey’s best athlete tore his ACL in their 2nd scrimmage. Stuff happens to everyone. Game went down to the final minute. Good win for Glasgow. Casey did a terrific job with what they had to do to compete.
  14. Casey threw for over 200 yards. I think Casey holding the ball for about 75% of the first half hurt Glasgow more than the weather.
