  1. A "good" long snapper is a rare find - I can show you over 15 different posts from this weeks games that mention long snapper problems. The long snapper is usually specialized and never gets accolades (sp?) nor even a name mentioned - the kicker comes on and scores the points, is announced publicly, and ....long snapper just does his job (same should be said for holder, but he is sometimes mentioned). A good long snapper has to try and "walk on" to college programs except for a few coaches that recognize the importance - Danny Hope formerly at EKU was one of these coaches - he gave a scholarship every two years to a LS....... Ray Guy kicking camp now has dedicated area for long snappers camp and evaluation. Div 1 gives LS scholarship son a three year cycle from what i have been told. It is a thankless special job - no credit, but blame evertime there is a screw up
  2. Conner scores with 1:51 left, recovers the onside kick, and scores again to win the game with 28 seconds left on the clock. Many Conner fans had already left for BW3 and oh did they miss a wild finish. They missed Nick West lead the team to victory! What a homecoming win. Scooter played a key role in the receiving game as well - Conner moved the ball in the air, up and down the field, but never could score until the final quarter. Actually, I believe Conner had three different possessions that they had 1st and goal inside the SK 10 yard line and could not put it in the end zone. But they never quit, and I really believe the team will rally stronger with this key victory. This was a hard hitting game - including one skirmish that cost Simon Kenton a starting player for the rest of the game plus next week! Simon Kenton scored two TD's on Conner turnovers deep in Conner territory - Simpson is a monster to tackle, but somehow Conner kept him from breaking the game wide open. Simon Kenton hurt themselves with key turnovers to give this game away to Conner. SK really has trouble on their extra points/field goal unit - absolutely no blocking from the O line on extra points. This may be the motivator Conner needed to get ready for 10 straight games, with Boone County at Boone next week. The game next week will be a slugfest.
  3. I just remembered a Cooper parent gave me a hand out of their roster - they have 49 per the roster - I would say there were 5 on the sidelines not in pads. They have 40 on th efreshman team per the roster. Also, side note. The JV game has been moved from Cooper to Conner tomorrow morning at 10:00 am - Cooper field not ready to go yet.
  4. I would estimate 45-50 total were dressed for varsity game tonite.
  5. Hamilton Joe called this one - Conner pulled varsity mid 3Q - Conner will probably lead many offensive and defensive stats for week 1 but it will be misleading. QB Nick West was fantastic. It will be a rough year for Cooper - but they never gave up tonite and they showed some definite positive things But they have Ryle next week - why they started with Conner and Ryle in week one and two must give Coach Borchers a massive headache. Conner dominated both sides of the ball and scored 20 points with JV team players. They get a bye next week and then to homecoming versus Simon Kenton - which will be a much bigger challenge. Two good weeks of football- hope they don't start getting too full of themselves...its a LONG season!
  6. sorry, but got to ask this question. Looking at the list of all stars, it shows punters and kickers but no long snapper. Any idea why not? Punter can't punt if the ball doesn't get back to him; placekicker cant kick Xtra points or field goals without long snapper to get the ball to the holder.....I know, why just the long snapper and not the holder....etc etc etc....But I must ask: Long snapper is a tough job - so why no acknowledgement? I know of two high school teams whose player only does long snapping for punts, field goals, and extra points - that's it.....no other position.... Just wondering for all you purists out there.......
  7. this station does not support on line broadcasting I guess......anyone have an update to the score?
  8. I have been told by two different Boone Coutny school administrators that Cooper HS WILL field a varsity team for the 2008-2009 year in football. The stadium is already under construction in addition to the school. As of now, only current juniors will get an option to stay at their current home school - current sophmores will move. And yes, one Conner sophmore family is moving to stay in Conner system. Also, current juniors that stay at current school instead of moving to Cooper will have to provide their own transportation to their former high school - may not seem like a big deal (being seniors and all they can drive)...but try to get a parking pass during the school year to allow you to park At Conner/Ryle game(s) Varsity/JV I heard one Ryle parent explain they are considering a move TO Cooper to allow their son more playing time......This is one of the big disadvantages of being in this fast growing population base. Finally, yes, the Conner JV team is exciting to watch - and does exhibit teamwork and not an I mentality. As I stated a few weeks ago, Coach Trosper needs to get this JV group both as a group and indiviually and discuss what they should be doing to get better and what they should work on during the offseason (as soon as this season is over). In the meantime, JV's only have two games to go - New Cath at home next Saturday at 10:00 and Cov Cath at Cov Cath on the 27th.....although this JV group would love to take on Holmes JV at year end......which will not happen due to playoff and injury potential now that Holes has a shot at district. Circle the 11/2 date on your calendar, as Conner will take on Homes that night - Senior night at Conner, and Trosper takes on his former team - this game will also be a must win for Holmes and Conner will need to win this one to get ready for 2008! Conner still has Newport Cath, Dayton Belmont, Meade County (an away game) and Holmes. Many tough games yet to be played - is it time to start looking at the JV team position players (not all at one time)at the varsity level?
  9. Barb and Culp are both seniiors - actually have 6-8 seniors starting JV this season with so many sophs starting varsity - kind of a role reversal...... JV team needs to put some meat on the bones of its players to be competitive in the future
  10. The comments and discussion on Coach Trosper and his success (or lack of) are without merit. He has taken a team that won one game a year ago and is starting over. Yes, a disciplianarian -but many of the Cougars needed that discipline. So its a rebuilding year - his emphasis on discipline, grades, and looking the part of well dressed young men is an important part to what he is building. His idea of the "C" Club - special fundraiser for the program has been a success - and Tim Hitzfield is out lining the field now with Coach Puthoff to get ready for tonite. It is a TEAM environment he is building - needs some time to make it happen. I think Trospers biggest long term problem is how many CURRENT sohpmores will move to Cooper HS next year under redistricting rules - he is playing a lot of sophs that may not be around next year. Coach Trosper will need to evaluate who he has coming back, get them in the weight room in offseason under a supervised program, meet with the returning current juniors and returning sophs to individually discuss their strengths and weaknesses and what they need to work on during the offseason, and move forward. PS. Current juniors have an OPTION to move to Cooper HS next year or stay at Conner - not one I have talked to is moving to Cooper.
  11. Yes, West is only a sophomre - Romero at wide receiver on a few plays - Conner starting 14 of 22 are sophmores/juniors. All in all, this could have been a lot worse - JC substituted quickly. Yes, a rebuilding year for a new coach - but it was a LONG drive down and back for the way Conner played. I heard pregame show on the radio and heard JC coach repeatedly refer to Conner as that team from Covington ...yes, he is quite a motivator, as Conner is a good distance from Covington.....but hey, whatever works JC is quickly becoming the Highlands of the East. Congrats to JC
  12. Conner is closer to 1700, but why quibble over 100 students - they dress just shy of 100 for varisty games. 2008-2009 year a new high school opens and Conner will go to approx 1200 students and Ryle will also lose 400 students so that all four schools in Boone County (Boone County HS, Ryle HS, Conner HS, and the new school/Cooper High School ) will all hopefully have 1000-1200 students per school. Cooper will field a football team next year from what we have been told. Redistricitng in Boone will be VERY interesting as it is announced over the next few months. The fights will be interesting. Now to JC - leaving here at 2:00 pm for the drive down - any problem getting tickets if I get to the gate by 6:00? We'll see how Conner handles the preseeure of its first game/long road trip/ and the fact that the NKY community has made it sound like Conner will get pounded......new young coach, first game, he is a motivator.....we shall see. Hope it is a great game for both teams.
  13. By the way, who do I send my $5 to? There was no fee /no one taking gate money at the game - TPC lost out, as there was a decent crowd for the game.
  14. Newport dominated most of this game - it only got close due to turnovers. Conner is a much better team than they showed tonight - they have two weeks to get ready for Johnson Central - they will need to utilize all the practice time they have to get a new defensive scheme ready. Once again Conner did not wear numbers - is coaching staff fearful of what the scouts may see?
