  1. Is it just me or does shooting twice as many free throws as an opponent seem a little high?:ohbrother: Trinity admitted they wanted to play aggressive and I guess they did and it payed off. It will be interesting to see a Clark County- Trinity match up in Lexington!:irked:

So Clark was 9-16 on FTs and Trinity 27-30....you see when one team barely shoots 50% and the other shoots 90% I would expect there to be disparity in attempts because that's the way the bonus works--you make 1, you get to shoot another and if you miss the first, you don't get to shoot another. How many front ends did Clark miss compared to Trintiy?

  2. I am sure they heard the nonsense coming from idiot parents. That is the problem with sports today the kids usually have sportsmanship but not the parents. We need to break the game tape down and let these parents watch. Or each parent should have to take the officials exam before their kids can play. Ha HA Ha HA. Just kidding. Trust me most of these kids would rather their parents not come to the game as to hear them acting like fools in the stands.

    Sad...but true.

  3. There are AP outlets all over the state to make nominations. As Jim Schue mentioned, why should it be up to me or somebody in Somerset or Middlesboro to make sure they nominate the Jefferson County kids just in case all their outlets dropped the ball? I nominate every kid from my area who I think may even be close to consideration, and it's up to everybody else to do the same. Again, we're talking nominations here, not the final vote.

I absolutely do every bit of statewide research I can when making selections on the final ballot, and I'd like to think most others do too. However, it's up to the players' local outlets to get them on that ballot to begin with. You can't expect some writer in the mountains to nominate 20 Louisville kids they've never seen just on the off chance the several members in Lousiville all fail to hold up their end of the deal.

Sorry, but there's no bias there. As I said in the first post, it's all about a nomination process that fails a lot of kids if everybody doesn't pull their weight. I'll come right out and say there clearly weren't enough Louisville kids nominated to be on the ballot. I absolutely would have voted for more if they were. I doubt I'm the only one.

I'm not going to go into much more detail, but because I'm still able to go back and log in to the voting page, here's an example. Because they were mentioned in the thread, I looked it up and there were only two St. X players and none from Trinity on the ballot at all. I don't have time to go do a breakdown by school, but a quick glance shows that there weren't many more Louisville kids period.

Maybe a bunch of Louisville area outlets didn't nominate anybody. Maybe they all happened to nominate the same handful of kids. But contrary to what people may think, there aren't a bunch of voters sitting around the state saying "Hey, I'm really going to stick it to those Louisville schools."

Thanks for the information, you're obviously closer to the situation than I. Can you give us some more details about the nomination process:

    1. Can any media outlet, the CJ for example, nominate as many players as they want(could they for example nominate 100 players?)

    2. Does a single nomination put a player on the ballot?

    3. How many votes does each "media outlet" get? For example, does the Middlesboro Daily News get 1 vote, the CJ 1 vote, etc...?

    4. How many players from Louisville were nominated?

    5. How many players from Bell County were nominated?

And I wouldn't expect voters to sit around and say "Hey, I'm really going to stick it to those Louisville school..." But, just because its unspoken doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

  4. Maybe the AP member outlets in Louisville -- of which there are about a half-dozen, if not more -- should do a better job of nominating the kids from their area. As Ky Buckeye said, you can't really expect the sports department of the paper in Somerset or Middlesboro to be responsible for making sure kids they never see play get nominated.

How do you do a "better job of nominating"? Are you saying the Louisville AP outlets are nominating the wrong kids and if they had just nominated the right kids the rest of the state AP voters would have jumped on board and voted for more Louisville kids? Not buying it. This is bias, pure and simple.

  5. You do know the Irish had 2 of the best receivers in the Nation? Golden Tate ring a bell? I know he will be gone but you said from what you saw "this year". BTW I think Collinsworth can play there. I hope he get's a shot.

    Jvdfc,

I didn't say AC would start over Golden Tate...I didn't say he would have started over anybody on the Irish team this year. I said he could "come in" (meaning when he gets there...next season) and start based on what I saw of the Irish this year.

Bear in mind, my original post was in response to "I don't think he would be more than a Special Teams contributor there but he will get a wonderful education." Which to me suggests AC over his career would never be more than a special teams contributor...I did not say he would "automatically" start as freshmen. I said he "could" start based on what I saw of the Irish this year.

  6. "I am not saying he could not play for ND. And maybe he could contribute as a possession receiver or a special teams player as Freshman. But coming in and starting over NFL ready guys would be a rarity."

Bugatti, exactly how many NFL guys would AC have to beat out next year in either the receiving corps or defensive secondary? Last I checked the aforementioned "Golden Tate" will not be returning for his senior year and will instead be playing on Sundays.

  7. I love to hear the positive talk about Austin. I agree with most of what you said. The only thing is he runs no where near a 4.4..Great kid and I hope he considers ND. It would be nice to make a road trip to watch him play in the next few years..:ylsuper:

Thanks for the correction...I didn't mean to imply he did though I can see how it would be interpreted as such(very few college athletes run a true 4.40) Randall Cobb has never been the fastest on UK's team, but he's a playmaker that beats you with his balance, agility, hand and vision.

  8. You do know the Irish had 2 of the best receivers in the Nation? Golden Tate ring a bell? I know he will be gone but you said from what you saw "this year". BTW I think Collinsworth can play there. I hope he get's a shot.

Last I checked the Irish and most teams would sometimes send more than 1 or 2 receivers out for a play (X,Y and Z ring a bell?). Bugatti, Randall Cobb or Tate Forcier ring a bell? Both started as true freshmen. True freshmen playing and starting, especially at skill positions where speed is crucial, is becoming more common. If you have a frosh running a 4.40 and he has good hands, he's intelligent, good instincts, good tackler would you play an upper classmen who is not as fast and maybe doesn't have as good as hands or instincts over the freshman?

  9. KY Buckeye--"I think that's how, as somebody mentioned, so many players from state champion and runner-up teams end up on there."

The 2 6A finalists had a grand total of 2 players(X had Sears 1st team and Beach Honorable Mention). Runners-up Trinity and DeSales each had 0. Maybe that's just the way the cookies crumbled this year. Or maybe there is just a little anit-Jefferson County bias amongst the voters? Let's look at one example--Bell County High School(neither a champion or runner up) places 6 kids as All-Staters while ALL of Jefferson County(24 high schools, including the 6A champion, 6A runner up and 2A runnner up) placed a grand total of 7. Bias...nahhh.

  10. We're going to have to develop more OLs and DLs, plus I think we are marginal at best at QB for 2010.

OL will be a huge question mark next year. Basically the entire starting OL unit graduates. Many, if not all, of the second team OL's this year were seniors. Bubba Brutcher will be solid at one DE, Corn Jackson will be solid at DT. Some of the DL's may need to go both ways. Polston or Heuke may rotate at the other DE spot. Linebackers and secondary will be very strong with Beach, Allen, Hall, Wilson, Wesley and Purdie returning.

  11. I just checked USA Today and they still have last week's ratings up. The new ratings are supposed to be out today. I don't think Highlands can get to #1 because Don Bosco was ahead of them and their season is also over. The best the Birds can hope for is probably #2.

Maybe they'll look at Don Bosco's loss last year to Cincy X and give Highlands the nod...never know.

  12. Several St X parents came up to me after the Championship game and mentioned a possible local Junior QB transfer to St. X for his senior year. Has anyone heard this?

Also, my son told me about the FL QB transferring to Trinity but said it was Charlie Strong's son. I guess he got half of it right since Coach Strong has two girls and a son in college!

By the way congrats to St.X

Heard about the local Jr. QB, he did visit, he's not coming to X. From what I'm hearing he was denied admission out of fear of recruitment allegations which would add more fuel to the public/private split debate.

The kid from Florida has met Charlie Strong, but they are not relation. Still too early to specualte whether he'll come, hinges on a job transfer with the Army.

  13. Young Mr. Cottingham has an unbelievable arm behind the plate. I was at a game last year when the Bluegrass 17's played the 18's and he threw out Lokesak twice. From what I understand Mr. Lokesak hadn't been thrown out all year including high school and summer ball..I hope Dillon can get his act together at the plate. He definately has the defensive skills to play in college..

Yes, I'd say 1.87 is outstanding.

  14. Keep in mind, great 9th region catcher. The 3 main issues I see Division 1 talent wise is his arm is a little weak for D1, and he doesn't have enough power at the plate, and his speed on his feet. I also noticed he likes to go the other way (right center) with the ball at the plate which could take away from his potential to show his strength offensively.

I think I understand now...he's "fantastic" defensively yet lacks "speed on his feet" and his "arm is a little weak for D1." He also has the ability to hit opposite field which I know D1 schools frown upon.

Others that have seen him play describe his arm as "unbelievable", but I'll take your word since you "know D1 when you see it." Seriously, anyone know his POP times? That might might bring some objectivity to the discussion of his D1 potential as I do think colleges pay attention to those numbers, much like they pay attention to the radar for pitchers.
