  1. Hate to say, ·i told ya so· but (you know the rest). The real losers in this is the senior class, proud alumnus and mostly the kid that was going to be qb before neagles came back to town. It will take a lot for the new coach to win back over everyone. The decision to put the newbie in has cost them their season.

I would say the Defense, or lack thereof, has been way more disappointing than the QB play. Season isn't over yet. Is X still running a 3-4 scheme? Seems not to be working well and I don't believe they can't find 11 guys who can tackle and cover.

  2. ^ Yes.....free game within 5 yards. That said, if they go to bump coverage, that would be a nightmare, if he got by that guy, it'd be curtains.

Mr. Quick is a nightmare to defend, as is Trinity's offense in general. Triple team and then Dawkins goes bananas. I must say, I would prefer to play tight bump coverage on Quick and force Travis to throw the ball the downfield, or at least show that coverage once in a while and disguise what we're really doing which is praying that the snap is fumbled.

  3. TNHS will pull from the Boston and New Haven area, and neither of those schools has its own MS team. They have, however, been playing as a combined Southwest Nelson team for the past few years. NC figures to drop to 4A if my numbers are correct, which would land them in District 5 with the likes of Marion, Boyle, Mercer, LexCath and Taylor.

While they'd be in a smaller classification (and, of course, stay far away from playoff matchups with the St. Xs and Trinitys of the world), I don't know that Boyle and LexCath every year would be preferable to CH and Meade.

I do think NC will be a lot better next year, though, although many will say it's just because of dropping in class, and those many would not be totally correct. Cards only had three returning starters this year, so they'll be very experienced next year and figure to improve by default.

Not to be petty, but could the school board have maybe gotten a little more original with the naming of the new school? The two largest public schools in Nelson County both have "Nelson" as their main moniker. Just saying.

  4. Thanks for your support RT. I wonder if the Rock AD will let my son come over and kick at their field before thursdays game, he has never kicked at a turf field, he is used to the high grass at Male? He is out of school monday/tuesday.

You might have better luck asking St.X, I recall they let Central practice there to prepare for playoffs when their field was saturated.

  5. I hate when people talk like this. If Lamar Dawson listened to this kind of foolishness he'd be the starting middle linebacker for an incredibly bad UL team or an incredibly bad UK team. Instead he is poised to be the starting middle linebacker at USC as a sophomore. Anyone who would rather see a kid lose at UL/UK instead of going to a real college football program is being selfish. Let the kid go and if the kid is overhyped he can always come home and play in the minor leagues of college football for UK/UL. At this point UK/UL is the school you choose if your best D-1 offer is EKU or WKU.

Many of us like to see in-state kids play for our favorite in-state college. If that is "foolishness", my apologies. I never like to act or speak "foolishly". In any event, I'm happy for Dawson--he's an absolute beast. I saw him singlehandledly beat Trinity in a freshmen game out at Butler a few years ago. But, had he chosen to play at UK or UL (even with offers from schools like USC on the table) I don't agree that such a decison would have been "foolish". USC is not ranked in the top 25. USC also produced OJ Simpson (murderer) and more recently Reggie Bush (cheater). Lane Kiffin, loyalty? Making a college selection involves consideraton of more than just a school's football tradition. Former Trinity star linebacker Jordan Whiting accepted a scholarship at Ohio State. He's now a redshirt sophmore playing special teams mostly. Ohio State is now embroiled in an ongoing NCAA investigation and lost their head coach. Whiting is a good student and Ohio State may have been the best academic fit for him. Some kids desire immediate playing time beyond special teams. These kids put a lot of time and effort into football, some get frustrated when they don't get an opportunity to play early.

  6. With the talent that these two have , the only way U of L lands either one of these two , is if they get homesick easily . It doesn't matter what conference U of L ends up in.

I disagree. I think you are underestimating Coach Strong's recruiting ability. The program is down, but it wasn't too many years ago that they had a legitimate shot at playing for a national championship. Kids that have grown up in Louisville and been a lifelong fan might want to be a part of the resurgence of UL football. Coach has shown this year a willingness to play a lot of true freshmen. If Quick and Hatcher want an opportunity to play immediately UL might be a good fit. If they want to go to say Oklahmoma and redshirt and maybe not play much until their 3rd year, then a school like Oklahoma might be a good fit. I really don't think homesickness has much to do with the decision these two will make.

  7. Who cant throw a screen pass? Anybody can do Wright's job

That's an oversimplification of Trinity's offense and Wright's talent. I'm not convinced he's a major D1 playey, maybe a mid-major. I think he's lacking some arm strength to get the ball down field, and when he does go down field it looks like he's using max effort. As to the screen pass, the real question is why couldn't X defend it better than they did. When T went trips with Quick lined up inside I think everyone in the stadium knew where the ball was going. It looked like X was in man coverage underneath and our linebackers, ends and safteys were slow to come help our DB who was getting cracked.

  8. Some of this competition among other sports, if not most, is self-inflicted. I know for a fact that X football players are strongly discouraged from playing other sports and my sources are mostly related to basketball. Trinity has several kids every year that play both BBall and Fball and although the football caoches may not like it, they compromise. This is one reason that X has been so far behind T in bball over the past 5 years.

And I think Trinity 27-10! I will be surprised if this game is as lopsided as last year.

Louballfan, my son's experience at St.X was completely different. He played football and baseball for 2 years. He was never pressured by either coach to quit the other sport. Matt Spalding was a freshmen starter at linebacker and probably would have been a varsity starter had he chose to play football. Same with Loehnert. My son could have contributed signficantly to the football team but chose to focus on baseball his last two years. By the same token, a couple of starters on the freshmen basball team (Daylen Hall and Matt Wilson) elected to give up baseball and focus on football. From my perspective, St.X does not "pressure" kids to play or quit a particular sport.

  9. Male has played everyone close this season, but has not been able to make the critical play for victory. The Bulldogs were due for a breakout game. Eastern almost always has great talent, but always loses focus and chokes when given the opportunity for a great season.

I actually attended this game...some very questionable coaching calls on the Eastern side. In particular, down just 1 TD in the first half they call a fake punt on 4th and 4 and give Male a short field and another score starts the rout.

  10. It would hard for me to answere your question because I'm not familiar with the replacements for these players. I believe Dawkins was replaced by #4 , who looked just as good as Dawkins to me in the T vs HHS scrimmage . Also if the four D1 players were not on this team , I would think the replacements for this group would have gotten more reps in practice , which would have made them better. Your question is almost impossible to answere , so I guess we will never know.

    Hoosier,

It was a hypothetical question--obviously "we will never know" for sure. But, I can assure you Trinity does not have any more James Quick's or Jason Hatcher's sitting on the bench. The freshmen you spoke of is good, and may be as good as Dawkins later in his career, but Dawkins is by far the better back right now. Without those guys, Trinity would probably still win 6A this year. But, "Best Ever", not a chance.

  11. It's bed time so I'll make this short and sweet. In your opinion ,what teams , should be included in this discussion , please include name of team , schedule , how many D1 players , what college did they go to , who did they play for in the pros , and the names of those players , and if their high school won state. In one of your posts you said that you had not seen the 91 Clark County team play, ! So what are you going by ?

Somebody mentioned Trotwood Madison , 8 D1 players and lose to a little 3A school from Ky ? I will give you some clues ,could they have been outcoached , out played ,better conditioned , more focused or worked harder in practice , more dedicated to sacrifice to make them better conditiond including lifting weights all year round . running track for better cardio ,do I need to go on ?

You could have 11 D1 players and not even make the playoffs , if they don't play as a T-E-A-M . I'm sure there are hundreds of examples out there , but I'm not going to look them up. To sum things up on my end , to be the in the dicussion of "BEST TEAM EVER " you have to have the whole package and not just a bunch (or tons ) of D1 players on the team ! :sssh:

    Hoosier Bird,

I didn't nominate Clark 91 as "Best Ever". Someone else threw them in the discussion and I asked for more information about the team, ex. how many D1 players were on it? You then retorted that the number of D1 players was "irrelevant". No doubt can teams have multiple D1 players and get smacked by teams with no D1 players. But that's not what this discussion is about. We are discussing who are some of Kentucky's greatest high school football teams and comparing and contrasting the talent levels and depth of talent seems highly relevant as opposed to "irrelevant" as you claim. You again dodged my question, if Trinity did not have the D1 guys it has (Quick, Hatcher, Dawkins, White) would anyone be debating if Trinity 2011 was best ever?

BTW, Trinity 2011 is the best Kentucky team I've ever seen. But, just because they are the best I've seen does not mean they are the "Best Ever". I never saw Clark 91, that's why I asked someone familiar with that team to post more information about them.

  12. Trotwood Madison had 7 or 8 D1 players a few years ago amd HHS beat them in the Herbie..HHS might of had one D1 kid..

Good example for how "irrelevant" the D1 talent was for Trotwood that particular year. This one example does not prove the "irrelevance" of D1 talent when discussing "Best Ever" teams. Again I ask the question, if Trinity did not have the D1 talent it has (namely Quick, Dawkins, Hatcher and White) would we be sitting here wasting time at work debating if they were possibly the "Best Ever" in Kentucky?

  13. Toughest schedule ever: Trinity 2011 without a doubt

Best team ever :Trinity 2011 without a doubt ( if undefeated at seasons end )

As for the bolded , it's irrelevant ! I've seen teams with tons of D1 talent get beat by teams with no D1 talent at all. College ,pros , all state , all conference , none of that matters.

"Irrelevant" you say? You say, "I've seen teams with tons of D1 talent get beat by teams no D1 talent at all." Define "tons" please. We've all seen weak teams, Fern Creek comes to mind, that will pop out 2 or 3 D1 signees and still get handled by 6A Kentucky teams and end up with a losing record. But "tons" of D1 talent, I think of a team like, well, Trinity 2011. Take away Quick, Hatcher, Dawkins and White (highly likely D1 signees) and we wouldn't be having this discussion about them as "Best Ever".

  14. So ,your saying strength of schedule doesn't have a bearing on determing the" best team ever " ? I would think that would carry the most weight of all things being considered. So I respectfully disagree !

No, you correctly bolded what I said--"should not be excluded from the discussion" based on strength of schedule. I didn't say strength of schedule has no "bearing on determining the best team ever". I'm not saying Clark 91 is the best team ever. I never saw them play. I'd like to know more about who was on that team and where they went on to play in college. Trinity 2011 clearly has the tougher schedule and by beating better teams you can certainly make the argument that T is the best ever. My point was simply that Clark 91 should not excluded from the discussion because of a weaker schedule. "Toughest Schedule Ever" and "Best Team Ever" are different questions and could yield different answers depending on the criteria used to answer the question. If we are looking for "Best Team Ever" one could look at LIT ratings, margin of victory, how many players went on to play D1, D2, NFL, how many started in college, how many made Allstate in high school, how many made all-conference in college, etc.. In my opinion, "Schedule" alone does not answer the question of "Best Team Ever".
