  1. The field should be in good shape when the rams row in town. For a real good night for FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL. You got to love it. It will be one of the best match ups in the area. Should be a big old knock down drag out. Good luck on the field.

Just something to throw in this topic Raceland/Russell game is on Halloween (OCT 31 2008)

  2. Raceland did miss Boyles in this game. But hats off to the Lions they played a good game. I just want to thank the coaches on the jv teams for the RAMS and the LIONS for a classy play at the end of the game letting that young man score and hats off to the refs as well. Good luck to both teams in dist. next week.

  3. Yes Raceland was alot bigger than Rose Hill but I do think that the asst. coach that everyone is talking about would have this Rose Hill team playing in alot closer games. They may still get beat but they would not be in the range of 25-35 pts I think it would be in the teens. I do not understand why nobody try and get this coach on their team. (yes even Raceland)

  4. Good win for the Lady Rams. Rose Hill has a good team they are just young and this team is going to be fun to watch in a couiple of years if they all stay together a play ball. Raceland has to keep improving on offense the defense is not that bad but the offense has to get better this is a game that they should have won and they did. They have to learn to put teams away when they have the chance. They let one get away the other night that they should have won.

  5. Congrats to Nathan McPeek on being named Fairview's new Head Coach. Good luck!

*As reported by WSAZ a few days ago. I'm suprised this hasn't been announced here on BGP yet.

Just like the newspaer in Ashland always late reporting on things like this.

  6. I think Farley will be the back up qb. The only way you gain experience is to get in there and do it. He will get plenty of reps in practice and some at the end of games. Another year starting on jv and taking charge of the backup role on varsity this year, and I think he will be ready to go for his junior year. The kid has alot of talent.

He should be the jv qb that is what I said but he is not ready for the varsity team yet if you watched him play last year you would understand he did have some good games but the wideouts and running backs bailed him out alot. Another year at jv and even somedown on the freshmen team will help him alot yes he will come in on the varsity team for mop up duty if Raceland is winning big or the other way around(dont see that happening this year). This is only my thoughts.

  7. Yes from what I hear the kids are getting accustomed to the new coach. I hear he is having a good turnout in the weight-room. Who or what, I don't know, but I just have been told by several of my friends that he has a lot of exciment building down at the fieldhouse.

I hate the long trips to Ashland, 2x a season is way too much! makes old people like me tired.

At least you will be able to watch a good ballgame and then get a good night sleep.:lol:

  8. We've covered the offense pretty well.

I think the defense is going to have to mature some more. Last season there were to many missed tackles and arm tackling. I know it drove Coach Maynard crazy, and I think he will be focused this season on stopping those mistakes. I look for Coach Maynard to be very focused on strengthening the defense, that is his bread and butter, and I am sure he took the arm tackling personal.

There are some great athletes on the defensive side of the ball, that get to the ball quickly, they just have to learn to finish. I think the defense needs to hold opponents to 14 points per game. I know the offense can score 21 points per game. If the defense can mature and play fundamental defense, things will fall into place.

On special teams: I think the return teams are going to be OK, but finding a kicker and punter are definitely going to be the main jobs in spring practice. If Raceland finds a kicker and punter, the puzzle will almost be complete.

The coverage for punt and kickoffs I think cost the Rams in at least two games the Russell and the second game against LCA to many yards given up,just giving my thoughts. There was other games also but those two really sticks out to me.

  9. Need to find a backup qb this coming year I know Tyler Farley will be talked about but I think he is at least one more year away from the job and I do not know if Bobby Mckee is ready either he did not take that many snaps at qb this past season so that will be a question mark also going into the new season because Tyler Boyles is the starting on defense as well the starting qb. The Rams are pretty well set at backups at other positions.

  10. Raceland must find a kicker Tate Preston did a good job on the jv team but did not try a extra point if I am not mistaken he only kicked off. The special teams must be better on coverage on punts and kickoffs to many yards after the kick. Rams do return most of the starters on both sides of the ball just a few players needed to be replaced. The coaches should have this team ready for the season come AUGUST.
