Finally, someone is noticing what I have been saying all along. The absence of the McPeeks (both McPeeks) in my opinion, is the difference in the team and the season. Nate McPeek is and was, one of the very best o-line coaches around, and probably the best.
Since Nate McPeek left, a couple of days before "Team Camp", everything has changed on the o-line. Those who had been the starters all Spring and Summer, are now no more than "practice dummies" on the "Scout Team".
The o-line at Boyd could be a great o-line of size and power but, the powers that be have decided to play smaller with supposed "more speed" players and not to substitute for fresh players at all. Yes, I know, speed is necessary but if you have a big lineman with heart and power, and stamina, it supersedes a small lineman with just speed any anyday, which is just my opinion, but seems to be working well at most all high schools and colleges across the nation.
As quoted in the Daily Independentdated Sept, 8, 2007 page B5;
quote: Coach Evans said - "It almost seemed like our guys were already whipped, which really upsets me. I've been a little guy all my life and never gave up, so it's hard for me to take." unquote.
As I have stated again and again, "You win or lose by your line." So if small isn't working or not substituting fresh horses isn't working, why not give something else a shot instead of continuing to beat a dead horse?
Someone on here stated about Gatlin not getting any carries in 15 or so plays, well if he doesn't have someone blocking for him, what's the use in getting him hurt and possibly out for the season. Get someone who can and will block for him, then give him the ball and he will get it done. The QB basically is getting manhandled because he doesn't have any coverage. Every time he has a picture in the D.I. he is trying to get away from the other team's defence, because he has no coverage.
Boyd has some of the best skilled players in the area, but with out coverage, it is to no avail.
Boyd is now 0-3. Coach Evans is also quoted in the same September 8, 2007 article as stating: quote: "We Had terrible practices coming into the Breathitt game and I expect more from my guys. I know we are playing alot of young guys mixed in with some veterans, but we need some guys to step up." unqoute. A reader's response to that quote is "Let some guys have a chance to step up and show what size and heart can do".
Yes, this all is just my opinion, except of course for the Coach Evans quotes, but it does makes sence doesn't it.
