  1. Yea, it's been crazy this week. The Twins/Sox and Jays/Tigers were postponed... and to boot, the Reds moved the 7:10 game Saturday to 1:00. Stinks when have season tickets and try to plan something!!! Which brings me to my original post... what's the difference????????
  2. Coaching a kentucky high school football team $2,000 Coaching a top ten kentucky high school team $10,000 MAKING A DIFFERNCE IN A KID'S LIFE..... PRICELESS
  3. I see little league to HS varsity to the pro's calling it off, let's have some fun with it.
  4. What are the top ten reasons why football is (or can be) played in the cold, but baseball is not? (some are obvious, and some are not)
  5. I hope I do not hear boos for Billy D when he visits Rupp... that would be a total lack of class for UK fans (unless it's just superficial jousting). The real UK fans should welcome the opportnity for redemption. Anyway, to switch gears, welcome to the hot seat Billy G.

  7. Miles hits the hole fast. However, watching him play for 4 years in the NKYFL; when he got hit hard a couple of times he didn't seem to be as bold, and he didn't seem to have great hands for catching passes. Has this changed after he got to high school??? He was always a good on defense though.
  8. GO TIGERS!!! They are my Vegas team this year!
  9. Maybe nobody cares COACH???... it would have been good to be watching select ball this year! JMO
  10. Great responses, it seems as though we have some responsible adults out there. I have watched select (AABC) and knothole ball for the past 3 years (ages 10 through 13) and have seen a wide range of pitchers hurling more than just fast balls and change ups in both leagues. To be sarcastic about it, I thank those parents, coaches, and big brothers who think it is best for their kids (14 Under) to throw the curve ball because it helps "my kid" at bat. As time rolls on, the theory is (because the pitcher's arm wears out) that "my kid" will swing a bat longer than your kid throws a curve ball and the sooner he sees the curve ball, the better he is prepared for it in the future. Which leads me to the second part of my post... I think there are so many curve balls in a given arm (just like beats of a heart)... does anybody have support for this theory?????

  12. Honestly now parents, coaches, and big brothers, what do you think about teaching a kid (12-14 yrs old) about how to throw a curve ball, and promote throwing it? Do you think it is true that throwing a curve ball is like the number of beats in a heart... you only have so many?
  13. I saw somewhere on a BGP post that this group of kids (now juniors) were the JV and Frosh champs... for what that's worth. "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain"
  14. I am all for what these guys (Bellevue coaches and the Bellevue Vets) are doing in Bellevue. These people are putting a lot of time and effort into this program... for free!!! The numbers may be low and the program is just starting again, but there is an analogy in the business world to what they are doing: Anybody can run a business with an endless supply of money (talent), the real business owners can not only survive, but can make it happen with limited resources (7th, 8th and even 3rd graders). Good luck to you guys!!!
  15. All Ky senators are listed at this site: http://lrc.ky.gov/whoswho/sendist.htm If you want to go big (that would be national), contact US Senator Bunning... I think he knows a thing or two about baseball as well.
  16. What ever the final form of the rule is, I sincerely hope that it is in the spirit of the kids first, after all that is who is playing the game. To place limits on where a kid plays does not make any program very attractive to the player or the parent. A kid chooses where to play and how many programs to play for based on many factors ranging from physical ability to coaching to where his buddies are playing. Don't take that away from them, or we run the risk of driving them away from something they enjoy, baseball.
  17. If you think your child would ride the pine as a 7th or 8th grader on the frosh team, I would direct him to a knothole or a select team (depending on his skill level) in which he would get more playing time and increase his skills in order to prepare him for HS ball, if that's what he wants. Many 12/13 yr old select teams start in mid to late March, and the regular knothole schedule will start in early April. Select will play 2 to 3 times more games than knothole.
  18. There is no question that metal bats have more pop. I've heard many parents (if not every parent) of kids that pitch express the same concern. Big business though, with lots of money... it will be hard to change, but I agree that change should not have to come from harm. Bring on the wood bat classic, it just sounds better.
  19. Yea, it is surprising that the state runner-up didn't have a bigger draw. BHS had about 35 kids for V, JV and FR. I think the frosh team will be 7th and 8th graders for the most part.
  20. The Cats are capable of playing like a 4 seed or a 12 seed this year. I think they get it done over Nova, give Kansas a heck of a fight. (I am so tired of picking Kansas to go far only to see them fall early... so why not pick UK) If they get it done over Kansas, then with a few days rest, who knows maybe they'll have enough gas to withstand SUI's defense.
  21. How many kids tried out for any given high school team this year? Were the numbers up or down from last year(s)? Was the talent pool more or less experienced than last year(s)?
  22. Run down of U-14 AABC teams and HS's that will benefit. NKY Monarchs: One 9th grader played JV as an 8th grader at Boone. There are several other kids that would make HS teams if they have tried out. The kids on this team will go to CCH, Boone and Campbell county schools. NKY Reds: There are two 8th graders that should play JV at Dixie if they try out. Again, there a a number of other kids that would make the Frosh or JV teams as 8th graders. I think most of these kids go to Turkeyfoot or some other midde school of Dixie. Bluegrass Knights: Have four 8th graders that will play Frosh and JV at Beechwood this year, two 9th graders that made the Ryle JV squad, two 8th graders that made the Boone Co. JV team, and a 9th grader that plays JV/Varsity at Bellevue. NKY Sharks have players that will go to Boone county schools and a couple from Holy Cross It is not out of the question that a number of these kids will play varsity at some time this season. All of these teams, more often than not, beat the Ohio and Indy AABC teams (national and american divisions). AABC is without a doubt going to make NKY baseball more competitive. We should start seeing more results over the next couple of years.
