  1. Fairview R Harris pitched a 2 hitter
  2. Congrats to Bath Co. Fairview pitching had one of those nights like RAceland had against them. BAth CO did hit the ball well
  3. I think this is the final Heard it on the radio
  4. I think Fairview was underrated at the very first by allot of folks. Some were saying that pitching was going to be a big problem for this team. In fact Fairview does not call anyone their ace but has 3 very good pitchers that are very consistent and has good plate location. R Harris Thompson Brown All different pitchers with their our style that works for them. After talking with Assistant coach Hale he made a very good point, these boys get along very well and love the game and know they need each and everyone of them to play well to win. With my past coaching experience and watching area baseball I think team chemistry is the key to a successful team. This team will do well this season and also next season, as they are a very young team. Raceland has a very good and talented team and will use this as a learning experience and be right in the hunt for the region. The region is wide open with Greenup, Russell, and Boyd playing well also. Very good coaches for all these teams.
  5. Eagles show off some leather, beat Rams 12-4 By RICK GREENE — The Independent Raceland — Fairview coach Rick Lambert has been waiting for his team’s defense to come around in the early part of the season. The Eagles had good timing in Friday’s opening round of the 16th Region All “A” Classic against host Raceland. Fairview showed off its leather with several nice defensive plays and didn’t commit an error in helping starter Robbie Harris go the route in a 12-4 win over the Rams. Fairview advances to today’s semifinals against Elliott County at noon. The second semifinal has Rose Hill meeting the winner of Friday’s late game between Bath County and Menifee County at 2 p.m. Today’s finals are scheduled for 4 p.m. “We just couldn’t get any leadoff hitters on base. Harris challenged us all day,” Raceland coach Randy Vanderhoof said. “He had good control and they had some great defensive plays. It’s a shame ESPN wasn’t here to watch them play defense.” While Harris cruised through four scoreless innings, Raceland starter Scott Grizzle had trouble finding the plate. Grizzle recorded 11 strikeouts in 5-2/3 innings, but the senior left hander often worked from behind in the count and threw 79 pitches in the first three innings. “It was key for us to be patient because he was all around the plate,” said Fairview coach Rick Lambert, whose team improved to 4-2. “It’s a whole lot easier when you’re patient at the plate and wait for a pitch to hit.” After taking a 1-0 lead in the second, Fairview took command with a five-run third that saw it send 10 hitters to the plate. The key hit was a three-run double by third baseman Matt Thompson. The right hander sent a full-count delivery down the right field line with two outs and plated Jeff Evans, Matt Jones and Casey Clark. Thompson added a three-run triple in the sixth, which was part of a four-run inning, to put the game away. He finished 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and six RBIs. “He’s hitting the ball well,” Lambert said of Thompson. “I think the first at-bat was key. He had two strikes, but he stayed patient and came up with a big hit.” Grizzle held the Eagles scoreless in the fourth and the fifth as the Rams tried to stay in contention. “He didn’t have real good control,” Vanderhoof said of Grizzle. “He settled down, but by then he was tired and worn out.” Grizzle exited with two outs in the fifth. He gave up seven hits, three walks and nine earned runs. Fairview center fielder Tyson Greene, who had a spectacular diving catch on a hard hit ball by Grizzle into the right center gap in the fifth, finished 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Harris was 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored. Josh Wilson was 3-for-4 for Raceland (7-4) with a double and scored a run. John Scott Carver had three singles in four at-bats and had an RBI. Justin Ross was 2-for-3 with a run scored. The Rams played without senior Blake Morris. Vanderhoof had no comment on Morris’ absence. The winner of the tournament meets 14th Region winner Hazard for a trip to the All “A” State Tournament. FAIRVIEW 015 004 2 — 12 9 0 RACELAND 000 010 3 — 4 13 2 Harris and Bailey. Grizzle, Reynolds (6), Phillips (7) and Deskins. WP — Harris. LP — Grizzle. 2B — Thompson (F), Greene 2 (F), Wilson ®, Phillips ®. 3B — Thompson (F), Martin ®.
  6. WP R Harris -- Harris did a very good job keeping Raceland off balance at the plate Thompson 3b-2b 6 RBIs T Greene 3-4 3RBIs Fairview was on tonite
  7. I think the Rams are the favorite also. But I also think they will not cruise though all teams as some folks are saying.
  8. I would'nt bet on a cruise. Fairview and Rose Hill playing well now.
  9. Our thoughts and prayers from the 16th
  10. Regardless if the player is an elite pitcher or not, the fact is his arm is not ready for breaking pitches at 14u. I recommend that parents learn and watch the game and keep pitch count for their own. My thoughts
  11. Our thoughts and prayers from the 16th
  12. Who did Boyd throw? Shawn Hall and his players-staff is a very talented bunch
  13. This is a subject that I have been asked for years. Many coaches tell parents that if you teach an 11-14yr old to throw the curve correctly it will not injure the player’s arm. WRONG! I have seen coaches use a multi colored ball to make sure that the pitcher is releasing the ball in a so called natural snap at the release. I have been told if the ball is released in a downward snap that it will not cause injury. At the 15 and above coaching level I see a lot of young players with injuries from being taught these methods. Believe me if you have a young player, you should not teach a curve or breaking pitch until about 14 years old and only use very limited amount of these pitches. Teach good control making the fastball move with different pressure of the fingers and a change-up. Watch the amount of pitches that the player throws Especially on cold days. A post on this site has an excellent max pitch count for players.
  14. I think Blanton at Boyd County has signed with Pikeville.
  15. You are very correct. Raceland has an extremely talented bunch of kids returning. Good hitting returning also. They will definitely be in the regional playoffs.
  16.
