  1. Volquez (8-2, 1.32 ERA) has not given up more than two runs in any of his 12 starts, having allowed only 49 hits in 75 innings. His 91 strikeouts and .188 opponent batting average are also tops in the majors. Mark Hendrickson (7-3, 5.33) has an 11.66 ERA in his last three starts. He lost to Volquez at Cincinnati last month after allowing four runs in five innings. The left-hander is 0-2 with an 8.49 ERA in five career starts against the Reds. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/preview?gid=280609128
  2. Cubs need to win tonight darnit and fish the left coast trip at 4-3.
  3. I guess that would qualify as a "no doubter" My goodness.
  4. Aaron Harang (2-8, 3.86 ERA) is 2-1 with a 6.21 ERA in six career starts against the Marlins. He gave up four runs in seven innings in an 8-7 win on May 12, his second in as many starts against Florida. Right-hander Ryan Tucker will be called up to make his major league debut. Burke Badenhop was originally scheduled to take the hill, but threw 1 1-3 innings of scoreless relief and earned the win in Saturday’s 8-7 victory. Tucker, 21, has been impressive at Double-A Carolina, going 4-2 with a 1.41 ERA in 12 starts. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/preview?gid=280608128
  5. Including the final series between the teams last season, Cincinnati has won seven in a row over the Marlins while scoring 57 runs and batting .333 with 16 doubles, two triples and 11 homers. Florida staff which has been ripped for 97 hits in the last 10 games while posting a 6.90 ERA. The Marlins are 2-8 in that span after winning six of seven. Scott Olsen (4-2, 3.72 ERA) has failed to pitch past the sixth inning in five consecutive outings, recording a 6.49 ERA while allowing eight homers. The Marlins have lost his last three starts after winning eight of his first nine. The third-year left-hander gave up two solo homers in his lone career start versus Cincinnati - one to Phillips - but those were the only runs he allowed in seven innings as he got the win in Florida’s 10-2 victory on July 20, 2007 Bronson Arroyo (4-5, 5.61 ERA) threw seven scoreless innings in a 7-6, 10-inning win over the Marlins on May 14. He is 0-1 with a 3.09 ERA in six games, including three starts, versus Florida. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/preview?gid=280607128
  6. You figured the Reds would score some runs tonight.
  7. Florida’s staff has served up 16 homers with a 6.43 ERA in the last nine games. Florida has won five of its last six at home, while the Reds are just 10-22 away from Cincinnati. Reds starter Johnny Cueto (4-5, 5.11 ERA) has been inconsistent in his rookie season, but was outstanding in his last outing. The 22-year-old right-hander carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning Sunday, when he finished with two runs and four hits allowed in seven innings of a 6-2 home win over the Braves. Cueto has won his last two starts after dropping five of his previous six decisions. Florida’s Andrew Miller (4-4, 5.37) will face the Reds for the first time. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/preview?gid=280606128
  8. Blow a 4 run lead on the road, including an 8th inning home run to tie the game, come back in the 9th to get the lead back and win the game. Woody made it interesting as always, but who cares, take care the darn win. :thumb:
  9. You don't like their chances today?? Wonder if Dusty will leave Homer in there to give up 10-12 runs if it gets that bad. Why burn out the bullpen before another long series in Florida.
  10. Homer Bailey, who went 4-4 with a 4.15 ERA in 12 starts in the minors, was 4-2 with a 5.76 ERA in nine starts as a rookie last season for the Reds. Cole Hamels (5-4, 3.73 ERA) has yielded 13 runs, 15 hits and has only four strikeouts in 9 2-3 innings over his past two starts. In his only start against Cincinnati this season, Hamels allowed two runs and five hits in seven innings of a 5-3 victory. He is 2-0 with a 0.86 ERA in three career starts versus the Reds, striking out 26 in 21 innings. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/preview?gid=280605122
  11. Yep, very tough loss last night, but you knew the streak would end eventually. Would be nice to at least split the 4 game series in Los Angeles before heading home.
  12. A really nice win and Voltron continues to be amazing with each outing. As someone mentioned above, the pitching has done a pretty good job with this offense, maybe the Reds can pull one out tomorrow and leave with a split.
  13. So the Chase for 600 now applies to Griffey's age when he reaches the milestone.
  14. Big surprise, Corey comes back and the skies blacken. The weather outlook for Philly tonight:
  15. When, not if, but when the Cubs have another "Cub like" year, I will have no problem making comments about them being 10 games back. I will still support them, but I won't take it too seriously where I can't make light of the situation. You're just mad because you have one of the better outfielders in baseball, an outstanding and young 1st, 2nd and 3rd baseman, a great ace in Harang, a really great young pitcher in Voltron.... Wait, why are you mad again?
  16. I made that comment in the CUBS thread not here, just to make that clear. I have said before that when the Cubs and Reds aren't playing each other, I watch and support Cincinnati. Sheesh.
  17. True, True. You are right HT, I'm hoping we see Dunn, Bruce, Griffey and Hairston at SS. No reason in goodness green earth Corey should start anytime soon.
  18. Yeah, but I had the actual quote from the movie, so I'm more special or more of a nerd. Whatever the case, my post was better.
  19. We could have him do pushups everytime he hits a ball in the air. Maybe that would land him on the DL. "200 pushups? How am I supposed to hit when I can't move my arms." I think we can all find a clip from that movie and still apply it to today's players. :thumb: Course GT has the same idea I did, oh well. :irked:
  20. Hairston, Bruce have been a great 1, 2 combo at the top of the order. I just don't want that messed with because Mr Clutch is Dusty's boy.
  21. If Patterson has to be in the lineup, you bat him 8th. He has the batting average of a pitcher, so let him dwell down there.
  22. I would hope the Reds win tonight, considering Homer is likely going to give up some runs on Thursday coupled with the Reds facing Cy Young that night. Their best chance is tonight with Voltron.
  23. The Reds have lost 14 of their last 17 road games. Edinson Volquez (7-2, 1.46 ERA), who owns the lowest ERA in baseball. Volquez gave up two runs in six innings of Cincinnati’s 11-inning, 3-2 win over Atlanta on Friday, but his ERA still rose from 1.31. Brett Myers (3-6, 5.52) is 2-1 with a 4.19 ERA in eight career appearances, including six starts, against the Reds. He won for the first time since April 17 on Friday, yielding three runs and striking out a season-high 11 in eight innings of a 12-3 victory over Florida. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/preview?gid=280604122
  24. I had enough class to put it in THIS thread and not the other one. Sheesh! It seems like their starting pitching is only going 5 innings, the bullpen can't hold up forever if they are constantly asked to pitch 4 innings every game. You know they will make a move, will be interesting to see how it plays out.
