  1. I see your point, but you must look at the small schools like Lynn Camp, Wburg, OBI, Harlan Ind, Red Bird, Bville, Pville, Jackson County....they never get to host it due to size.....a nice check each year would go a long ways towards their programs regardless if they make the tourney...if you can come up with the cash I am sure they will be more than happy to vote in your direction. If the 52nd wants to stomach the blow then they have the right to agree to provide the same services.
  2. I see your point of view and if the arena was in Harlan I would probably share the same reservations based on travel, but in the end it comes down to every school in the region getting money, every fan being able to have a nice chair back seat, plenty of parking, teams being able to play in an arena not a gym and most importantly a neutral location where no team has any mental advantage. I know Corbin has been involved in 4 out of the last 5 regional championship games, but I would support the move if the Arena was located in London or Barbourville even Manchester or Pineville. Maybe they will move the Harlan School to the 14th and then everyone would be satisfied with the Arena. Other than a long travel distance for Harlan County, there is not a drawback. One thing that would be improved is the time needed to clear the gym.......20 minutes after one game is over the next would begin...that in itself would help greatly for the teams having to travel on school nights. There would be no need for an hour to clear the gym between games. If Harlan County can come up with the same money for each school regardless of making the region then I say let them host it in the future. The new gym is great. The schools there do a great job hosting events and if I recall correctly my Hounds have won the region in Harlan County a couple of times as well.......but I can not see them being able to do this unless they have some financial support that I am not aware of. I can promise you this structure was not built for the sole purpose of hosting a regional basketball tournament for Corbin High School.....lol.....Les is right. It is a business and it seems to have worked out pretty well for the 15th region. We are in the dark ages here in the 13th. Almost half the regions in the state are hosted at big locations and those regions, schools are reaping the benefits thus so are the students. The extra money will lighten fund raising, increase summer camp money and more than likely provide many things for all the area schools. The neutral fan will come out and watch due to the fact they can buy a ticket and have a sit, no waiting in line, calling someone you know, etc. It just makes too much sense.
  3. Wow, Coach Ledington must have lit a fire in the bellies of the Colonels. This Corbin team concerns me in the fact they have laid a couple of eggs thus far. That is not a characteristic of most Corbin baseball teams and I am sure Coach Garmon will have them working hard to improve each and everyday they take the field. Good win for the Colonels. This Clifford boy must be a heck of a pitcher.
  4. With that kind of logic the Sweet 16 should be on a rotation between Lexington, Northern Kentucky, Louisville, Bowling Green, Owensboro and perhaps then all those businesses would be benefited like the ones in Lexington have for a number of years. Sometimes it is just a matter of the majority rules. If Harlan County gets granted the move to the 14th that they have requested then I am sure they will host a region in the near future. The new gym is great up in Harlan County. It is not a Harlan vs Corbin, vs blah, blah...blah...it is what is best for the student athlete, the fans and the majority of the member schools.
  5. I doubt Coach P would want to give up the homecourt advantage by playing in the Arena vs Gillium gym for a regular season game at any rate.
  6. Districts will stay at the respective schools. The region will be held at the Arena, end of story. It makes too much sense and the adminstrators in the region understand this much more than the others involved. The mighty dollar will drive this issue and in the end the best team will win the region regardless of the location. If playing at home determines the state champion then all high school teams are in trouble my friends. Nice seating, no staff involved in the process and the dollars will come flowing to ALL schools. Who could vote against this besides those wishing for some self serving reasons. It makes too much common sense to have it at a central location and the schools to make the most money possible. End of story.
  7. What kind of numbers is Bryant throwing up in the weight room? He is a talented young player, who could be one of the best in the state in a few years, if he continues to grow. Sometimes kids mature early and peak by their 9th or 10th grade seasons.
  8. Other than Coach P, he signed with LSU and Isiah Mills, Tenn Tech I would say you are correct. Neither of these guys finished up at those schools, so that does not count in my orginal question. But both guys signed full rides and that has to count for something. They were not walk on or anything like that.
  9. Maybe one reason is, they don't like some of the coaches who coach that sport they wanna play! I would say, you play for your school, to be around your friends and most importantly the team concept. There are always going to be to personality conflicts. I played for several coaches I did not like at the time, but I respected them and later on in life saw things a bit differently. I learned many life lessons from these men and have carried them with me long after my high school days in Louisiana are passed. Kinda like having a job, you will never find a perfect one or one without drawbacks. Sometimes you have to take the good with the bad.
  10. How many division one players have the Redhounds produced since the Glory Days of Redhound football? I am talking about full ride scholarship and the player finished four years of playing at a Division one school?
  11. Corbin has the 13th winningest basketball program in the entire state regardless of class in the decade of the 00's. I think the decisions of the Coach have worked out pretty well. People make choices and they have to live with them. Corbin will field a great football team if the players are willing to accept their role and take on new positions. I feel confident about that for the upcoming season.
  12. I would say this is pretty accurate. Sometimes you have to move people to other positions in order to get your best talent out on the field. I would think this might be a season where several people rotate in on the offensive and defensive lines with a couple players being capable of playing both ways. Manns might have to move to the interior of the line on offense in order for the Hounds to open some holes for the talented backs to run the football via the ground. Farley and Lambdin are both new faces who can contribute with some experience and strength.
  13. Hounds will have lots of options in the backfield, but will be challenged early on with only a handful of linemen returning. Watkins, Fritts and Taylor will be a load carrying the ball. Mitchell is a good athlete and may have to change positions if Smith takes over the QB position. Either of these two guys will be fine calling the signals as a QB. If Coach Jewell can find some big boys to do the dirty work in the trenches the Hounds could indeed be one of the top teams in 2A.
  14. Josh Crawford from Corbin and his 33 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists would be my personal favorite. If the other Hounds would have been on their game I would have liked Corbin's chances to advance. Crawford was a manchild out there and no one on the floor could contain him or keep him from getting to the rim. I thought for sure he would get a Sportsmanship award or some other recognition for his play.
  15. 13th Region 1. Corbin....still the champions until someone beats them. Return Wilson, Johnson, Manns, and T. Smith. A solid JV team will help Coach P as well next season as he defends the title. 2. South Laurel...St. John, Watkins, Gilbert and Huff will all be back and the Cards will be a handful for everyone. 3. Clay County....2001 was the last tiger trip to Rupp and they have a solid group returning....Wilson, Hooker, Reed, Roberts and Gay plus my personal favorite Tiger player...Mitchell. This could be SPurlock's year indeed. 4. Knox Central....1970 was the last regional Champ squad for the Panthers...Miller, Canady, Broughton, Barger are four solid guards...they will have to get something inside to win the region next year.
  16. I agree HDE, I knew he had it in him, he just turns in on when needed. Josh is a special young man who will be s steal for some college. He does alot of things that go along ways toward making a good team. He will be sorely missed in the red and white for years to come.
  17. I thought the Hounds played hard, with that said Eastern is a fine team and may very well win the whole tournament. Corbin did not have their best game of the season, some that was due to injury, Eastern being very athletic and player injuries. In order for Corbin to win they needed a huge effort from everyone they had and unfortunately, did not happen. Good luck to the Eagles the rest of the way. Josh Crawford showed he is one of the best in the state, he will do well in life and basketball. I am like Hank, I would love to see him land and Cumberlands or Union where I could watch play in college in the upcoming years. Hats off to Coach P and staff for a tremendous season and being able to live up to some big expectations. To the returning players, get to work for next season and find a way to get back to Rupp. Hounds return a solid nucleus in Wilson, Manns, Johnson and Smith, they will still be a threat to win the 13th if some of the younger players develope.
  18. \ How much did the game with Ballard take out of the J-Town Chargers the night before they faced Eastern?
  19. Bubba appreciates the support. I will return the favor when the Cards make the trip to Rupp the next couple of seasons. I will be in the house Wednesday night to cheer the Hounds on against the Eagles of Eastern. Not sure what section my seats are but I will run over and say Howdy to Ms. Goldie. Might even bring her a Redhound t-shirt as well.
  20. We could send the Laurels back to the 12th and everyone would be much happier with the original 13th region....lol
  21. Hounds will not leave anything in their bodies. I bet they play very well and if they do that I like their chances. This is a special group of young men who are playing well together and do what they are supposed to. That is a hard combination to beat, especially when you have some talent and good coaching to go with it.
