  1. If everyone is so up in arms about concussions, then Good. I lost track of how many helmets came off due to non-direct contact this year. Players these days loosen thier chin straps so thier helmets fly off when they get hit, so they look cool.

This is a silly statement. Think about what you are saying here, I cant even fathom loosening my chinstrap so it will fall intentionally.

  2. Really no surprise here. Sounds like Marion is a very good team and a very credible contendor to win it all.

I give BC credit for scheduling a heavyweight like Marion towards the end of the season to get an idea as to where they stack up against a team that is typically one of the stronger programs in the state.

Really good teams make teams think they are in it even if it is for 3 1/2 qtrs, they only need a small window of opportunity to seperate themselves at the end.

Good luck to both teams in the post season.

  3. You need speed and hungry, dedicated players, several of whom will be asked to play at the next level, the more D1 linemen the better.

You need coaching to help. Some teams potential is not reached due to poor coaching. But I saw Trinity vs. Cin. St. X and felt X on had two players that would definitely start at Trinity, and two debatable. But X had no business playing them that close for that long.

I've also seen teams be mentally down two touchdowns to Highlands because they were too respectful of the tradition, and that is partly due to coaching. Coach must have an f-them attitude.

And this is exactly how you get the score ran up on ya too. :D

It is much better to respect programs like Highlands and T and go out and execute your gameplan and not get caught up in the hype or become in awe. If you lose your composure or get distracted then its lights out and they will bury you.

  4. Ozzy is very close on deciding the school that he is going to attend, a huge lifetime decision. He along with his family, coaches, close friends, along with current and former players of college teams that he considered, have contributed a lot of time and thought into making a decision.

I think Ozzy said it all, that most kids only have the opportunity to think about winning a state championship, but he and his teammates had the opportunity to live the dream for four years. Ozzy knows that his fellow teammates hard work and dedication extended him the opportunity that he now has. Ozzy is just a kid like every other football senior in America, making their best educated guess deciding on which college to attend for both education and football.

For someone outside of the Highlands football program to compare Ozzy to a Highlands legendary player who also lived the dream really has absolutely no relevance. Who was the fastest kid means absolutely nothing. Collinsworth was Ozzy's mentor. Ozzy is the mentor to the player that will replace him on Highlands this coming season. That's what is relevant. If Ozzy's replacement runs faster than him next season and averages 40 yards per catch, he's smacking high fives with him!

Ozzy is a humble kid. There won't be any drum rolls when he makes his decision. His true friends and members of the Highlands football community will be the first to know. Some will love the decision he makes, others will question it. However, only Ozzy has experienced his personal recruitment for the past two years and only he can make the decision that he feels will be right for him this year, next year, four years from now, and fifty years from now.

Highlands will play football next season and Ozzy will play in college. I sure hope he runs fast!

Great post my man. I too am very close to an almost identical scenario with my nephew last yr.

You summed up my exact thoughts very well.

The Haters will always be hating and the Highlands faithful will always stick together. Those that do not and question a young mans decision are the ones I feel bad for and quite frankly this is about Ozzy and nobody else at the moment.

I know he will do well wherever he plays because of the family support system in place and the strong Highlands family tradition.

If I were a betting man and can read into what I just read then this D1 family member says a great big Congrats to Ozzy and the family. Trust me he will fit right in and make us all proud despite the naysayers and the Haters.:p

  5. If "The Ohio St" is calling then it is a no brainer imo. Now, LN was spot on in saying go to a school that your parents can afford, and if mom and dad can help make it happen then go for it.

Just because a kid is recieving a scholy from a school doesnt necessarily make that the right school for him. Too many times kids fall in the trap of taking the first offer or money that is thrown their way only to find themselves standing on the sidelines on Sat afternoons playing in front of 700 ppl and sporting a 2-8 record.

Nothing wrong with that if that is what makes you happen and if your decision has been based solely on the school but I can tell you from experience this has not been the case and has not worked out well for Highlands kids. I dont fault them for their decisions because they follow their hearts and there is nothing wrong with that imo.

Good luck and go BIG Ozzie..........GO BIG :thumb:

  6. When was the last time Highlands had someone rush for over 1000 yards? :D

Top rushers in 2012 could be construed as a very generic statement imo. At schools that play 15 game seasons I would say a kid is tops even if he rushes for only 800 yds.

Ill bet if you ask any kid in the state of KY if they would trade a 1000 yd season for a State Championship they would in a heart beat.

So to answer your question above who cares? and does it really matter? Its all about winning as a program at Highlands. But then again, you wouldnt know this since you dont follow Highlands. :D

  7. Dave is a very knowledgable coach. He works hard. But, in the end, is all about having talent to compete. All programs have off season programs to increase players strength, speed, toughness, etc. Players win games not coaches. Highlands success can be matched by no other program in N. Ky. Why? Because because it has more tradition and success than any other program (dating back to the 60's). Lots of programs have tried to use their blue print for success but it is just a different animal. Other programs have tradition as well but not like Highlands. Dave will success at Dixie if he has the talent to compete. You can believe it or not but Dixie has to compete with Beechwood, CovCath, Scott, SK, Holy Cross, Lloyd and yes Highlands for players. The proof is there.

Wow! You are all over the place there friend. Is it the talent or the tradition? I dont want to turn this into a H Jack thread but your comments about H are flattering and I am sure you intentions are good but you actually have no clue.

Talent is natural and god given, a kid can have all of the talent in th world but if a coach cant bring it out of him and a coach cant match talent with team needs then the talent is wasted imo.

I have seen teams over my 40 yrs following H and NKY football and I can tell you I have seen H beat teams that they should not have beaten, coaching was the difference in those games not talent. JMO

  8. Stop down and say hello. I'll be in my "usual" spot.

I may just stop down and see ya.........Do you sit with TOG?

Say hello if you dont see me, I will be wearing a pair of khaki shorts, white tee (chili spot of front), white gymers with black socks and a pink towel (for breast cancer awareness wk) hanging outta my back pocket. LOL. and You?????

  9. Same here, just look for the Bob Huggins lookalike in shorts, white tee and sweat towel hanging outta back pocket and that would be me. LOL

Is Pat Allen still with the team. Did he graduate already? I see him #17 in the picture posted but the # and the name dont match up on the roster.

I might make it too. Will have the Illinois hat on.

Somebody say something about going to a baseball game!!!! Im in............

  10. Funny how the dirty birds are trying to push a matchup now, typical Ft. Thomas. Heres one, find a D-1 power in Cincy who you feel is gonna be down and schedule them. Would have love to see the matchup with the Middies this year instead of an 0-3 Withrow who should have beat ya at home. Karma definately will always catch arrogance

Post #43 agrees with your advice 100%. This Bulldog guy seems like a fair person, just cant believe he would rip the Birds and Dale and then run and hide behind his microphone. Ratings baby I guess, perhaps he did this because he too is dissappointed that SK coach wont step up and play the Birds. He even said it to me the other day on the radio. "Maybe the coach doesnt want anything to do with Highlands but the boys of SK believe they can beat the Birds, these SK seniors beat Highlands for the Frosh championship 3 yrs ago and they would probally beat them now". "SK has something special here, it only comes around ever so often, dont take that away from them". Define special? I dont get it. Sorry folks, dont take this the wrong way, but that is a silly statement.

  11. Or we can have state of the art facilities like SK and see how many points those indoor practices put on the board this past weekend (sorry but UK fan called for it)! I will go with the product on the field both teams played well. Perhaps lets skip the facilities talk and speak about the third down pooch punt. I have not seen that since in the early 80's on bad SK teams! Perhaps Coach W was concerned about injuring somebody on the sideline with his 3rd down kick. He did not want to hit a patron; so he warned the officer beforehand; thus he did not _ _ _ _ the pooch!

I agree 100% about the pooch punt on 3rd down. How in the world are you going to beat Highlands at Highlands doing something crazy like that. Maybe he wasnt sure it was 3rd down because he couldnt see the down marker from his 3rd row viewpoint in the stands, right behind the cheerleaders and the poor lighting angle of the lights. Is it true that the Ryle coach did not shake Dales hand after the game? LOL.

  12. Dude no need to jump down my throat...when I asked the question I was meaning would he wanna play for the new team. Calm down a little....I never took anything of his physical stature into question....I've always liked him for being able to do what he could/can do for the size he was/is. He gave the entire Wildcat nation something to be proud of and I'll never question anything about the man.

The rest of us understood what you meant Mr. Hensley.

Mr. Sweep, I too understand what you meant. I too find it interesting that anytime a Highlands fan comes to the defense of one of their own we are called "sensitive" or told to "calm down" It has become a common reply when the Highlands Haters backtrack their comments and do "damage control". Oh yeah the magic letters - LOL. Go Birds 20n10+12

  13. This is my only question is why is he going to camps and doing the defensive side of the ball? He has been moved to offense and he is a back up center that can and probably will play a lot. Why is he going to these camps and doing the defense? I don't ask to critisize just curious. Again I rally like this kid and hope he plays a lot. I'm not getting down on him at all just asking some questions so HHS is as good as we all want them this year.

Probably the same reason that Austin Abner has been attending 1 day College camps and being worked as a Safety and not a Cornerback. Too big and too slow to play CB in college but at 6'-1 and 190 running a 4.6 he is just right for Safety in college. Plus, its a good chance to develope new skills by being versatile. Most kids dont go to these camps to work on getting better at the position they are playing in HS they are there for evaluation as to whether they can play the postion the college wants them to play at the next level. I wouldnt get too hung up on why he is practicing a position he wont play at Highlands. Either way Waldo will find a spot somewhere on the field as all hard working dedicated players do. JMO, Go Birds, 20n10

  14. For the state of KY. I would kill the Spring Football rule. Absolutely a silly rule that was put in place by former UK coach Hal Mumme. He wanted the kids in KY to practice and work out in the spring to allow him an opportunity to scout and recruit future UK players during his offseason. yeah, that really works. Get rid of it and this allows kids to participate in the spring sports that count for their respective schools.
