  1. I haven't heard anything about any kids from Huntington or Columbus, but I did hear that Vin Diesel was working out with the Hill in preparation for an upcoming movie role. According to my sources, he runs a nice point, and is adept at no-look passes.
  2.   That has to be one of the funniest descriptions I've ever heard... Old Porter just hasn't been the same since Dolly went solo...
  3. No offense intended, really. I agree that tradition is a great thing, but if you spend too much time looking at what's in the rearview mirror, you may not see what's coming at you. It's been said that those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it It seems to me that those who expend so much energy trumpeting their history are very unlikely to repeat it. I wish Ashland and her athletes the best, but without a significant influx of new jobs and new families to the community, there's just too much parity developing across the region.
  4. "was" But their time of domination is behind them. Morgan County racked up better numbers than anyone in the 16th for five years. Last season Russell stepped up, and it looks like they may again this year. Elliott County is on the rise. Rose Hill is improving. Unless Ashland gets another steel mill or other large industry with lots of decent paying jobs like Toyota in Scott County, the days of maroon domination are no more. Sad but true.
  5. Wow, I hope the Cats will be able to cope with not being the dominant team in the 16th for the next few years.
  6. Nah, you've got nothing to worry about. From what I understand, those old coots only like to pick on freshmen. Your kids are too old.
  7. That would certainly explain the overwhelming number of teenage girls who identify themselves as liberals.
  8. Raceland at Raceland is a tough draw. Just ask Fairview and Elliott. A game of this stature should have three refs willing to be almost invisible. Enforce the rules, prevent injuries, but let the kids play. Officials in Richmond won't be straining to call every ticky-tack infraction. Let's send them a team that will compete with the best in the state. :thumb:
  9. The only thing BIG about this win was the final margin. I don't mean to insult Menifee County, but it's hard for me to believe they've won more games than Bath, Morgan and Lewis at this point in the season. Good kids, good community, they just have a weak team this year. Elliott could have scored 150 if they'd wanted to Tuesday night. Rose Hill or Raceland will be a very different game.
  10. Looks like the Ironton game featured a "porous press" of some type...
  11. The stats I posted are what the radio guys reported on 102.2 FM. Maynard's a great kid. I wouldn't short-change him on purpose. :thumb:
  12. Points - Rebounds Elliott: Ferguson 27 - 6 Ethan Faulkner 20 - 2 Maynard 6 - 0 Evan Faulkner 5 - 3 C Knipp 2 - 0 T Knipp 5 - 4 Morgan 6 - 2 Russell: VanHoose 35 - 7 Robinson 15 - 10 Gill 13 - 7 Ferguson 1 - 1 Blair 6 - 4 Frasier 2 - 0 Turner 2 - 0
  13. VanHoose drains a 25 footer with :03.3 remaining.
  14. I found it on 102.2 FM. It's 66-66 in the 4th quarter with 3:23 to play. Elliott fell behind 20-4 in the first quarter. Got within one at 36-35 Russell at the half. VanHoose has 31 for Russell. Ferguson has 27 for Elliott.
  15. I said if I was wrong, I'd be man enough to admit it. I was wrong. No way I thought this game had a chance of happening. There's still a part of me that will remain skeptical until I'm sitting in Anderson Gym watching the Tomcats and Royals warming up on January 23rd. Will there be a JV game too, or is that too much to ask at this time? I tip my hat to the administrators and coaches at both schools for behaving as sensible adults. Play ball!
  16. No way I thought this game had a chance of happening. I’m still skeptical. If it does take place, I will not hesitate to admit that my skepticism is off base and tip my hat to the administrators and coaches at both schools for behaving as sensible adults. One of the greatest aspects of high school sports is the building of intense rivalries with cross town, cross county, county to county rivalries. When kept on a sportsmanlike and friendly competition level, these games remain the brightest memories for competitors long after their careers have faded. It has to be honestly admitted that the intensity of these rivalries in this area have waned over the past two decades. It makes no sense to reject an instant and exciting rivalry like this. I hate to say it, but there aren't a whole lot of local high school games worth the price of admission for more than parents and grandparents. This matchup will not disappoint.
  17. We shall see won't we? There is no gray area on this one, either they play or they don't. If they don't you won't be able to spin it any other way. :thumb:
  18. The point is not whether Biggs has the stuff to schedule the Hill, from all I've seen of him he has that and then some. The point is the powers that be won't let him. If he hasn't figured out who's in charge by now, he will soon.
  19. And Chris Matthews, and pretty much everybody at CNN, and Katie Couric, and Dan Rather, and heck even Barbara Streisand and Alec Baldwin. It's been fun, but I have to knock off for the night. Big day tomorrow.
