Well I will agree with the pappy on this one. While Harlan was able to squeeze out a win against Cawood, it is not going to be that easy against a year in - year out regional contender like Hazard. Defensively I am confident in the scheme that Coach Perry will put together and Coach Frank Shope will implement. However, Cawood was not a fast team and hasn't been for quite some time. I see this one looking like a possible early L for Harlan due to the fact that I heard from some pretty reliable sources that Jones seemed to be a little (for the lack of a better word) scared in the pocket after he got hit around a few times. If Cawood was getting to him and causing him to loose his composure in the pocket, Hazard will be on him all night. However, I look for JB to concentrate more on the ground after seeing what he has in Lundy and Belcher in the backfield. If Harlan will start to utilize the middle of the field (with both intermediate and long range routes) a little bit more with the passing game and take the speedy Hazard secondary out of the run stopping picture this could be a success for the dragons. Don't be suppressed though if JB comes out in a two back set and runs the ball to bring them up first and then goes over the top though. I see this being a close game but in my mind after week one, Hazard has appears to have the advantage. Would always like to see Harlan on top though!

You're right, Harlan's offense doesn’t seem to be very high powered. However, I will have to take up for coach Donahue on this. I can't remember the last time that Harlan threw for over 150 yds and ran for almost 250. I know from what I have heard that neither team was impressive but 400 yds of offense isn't too horrible. Cawood on the other hand only put up 112 rushing and 39 passing. While I know there were some dropped balls for the Trojans, it sounds like this should have been more of a blow out than what it was if you look at the stats. This can also be attributed to the fact that Harlan throws more than cawood (never thought I would say that). However, Harlan only threw the ball 17 times with only 5 of those passes coming in the second half. Again, I have to commend coach Donahue on seeing that Cawood's stud (Mikey Hensley) was in the secondary, and completely adjusting his game plan in the second half because of it. While this has to be a devastating loss for the Trojans (1-6 in last seven meetings) they still can finish with a great season. Hopefully they don't loose control and drive their season into the ground. As for the dragons, they are going to have to step up their ability to get the ball in the end zone before they start playing Evarts, Breathitt, M-boro, Lynn Camp and Somerset this year. Good win though.

I didn't actually get to make it to the game like I had planned. However, I just got a report in that Harlan won 19-7. Good showing by Cawood. However, each team has offensive woes from what I hear. Cawood's only TD came on a busted play in which their QB picked up a fumble and ran in. Good win for the dragons.

While I have no dog in this fight, but I am originally from the area, I am having a hard time trying to figure out why some people think that Cawood has a chance in this one. When I saw them play against Evarts in a scrimmage they were getting absolutely ran an THROWN over by an Evarts team who has about as much air raid threat as the Ethiopian Air Force (no offense to Evarts, just an observation over the past few decades).I honestly don't think that Cawood has the defense to stop Will Pope. While I am pretty confident in the defense of Eric Perry to shut down a Cawood offense which put up fewer numbers than a 5th and 6th grade girls basketball team. If you don't get the point, I see this one having the makings of a run-away for the Dragons. Like I said though, I don't have a dog in this bitter fight, but I love the (for the lack of a better word) hatred that I get to see each year between these two teams. With that being said.....that's why they don't play the games on paper. Good luck to both teams. Sounds heated though, I’ll have to make it to this one again.:argue:

:argue: :fight: Unlike what many of the people on this post are saying, I don't think this game will be close. However, I understand that Harlan will be a little short handed with the loss of now RB/S John Lundy who is suspended. This kid has proven to be the most athletic player on this team in the past (with the exception of Teddy Thompson who is now gone) and will be missed on both sides of the ball (especially as a running threat which Jones isn't). Harlan is supposedly starting the Jones kid at QB which will be interesting to see. I saw him out at Cawood when they had their first scrimmages and he seemed to be easily rattled at the beginning of the scrimmage. It will be interesting to see how he holds up against a Cawood defense which, while they are below average, will bring a lot of heat his way. In the end I say Harlan just has too many threats with Casey Belcher, Will Pope and Jones (if he keeps his composure and will get rid of the ball quickly) for this game to stay close. I know a lot of people tend to overlook the non-district schedule when determining the best teams in a district for the following year. However, playing some higher quality teams outside of a weaker district can do a lot to get your team ready for district competition during/throughout the year. With that being said, lets hear some of your respetive teams non-district schedules...

Can't really tell you too much about how this district will play out until I see the schedules. You have teams in this district who start out on fire and then fade (Cumberland,Harlan) and teams that gain speed as the year rolls on (Evarts,Lynn Camp). Hard to tell until you see when they play each other and also factor in the non district schedules which can take a toll on teams by beting them up or making them over confident. Does anyone know when the schedules should be up on the Khsaa website? For that matter does anyone have their respective teams schedule for next year?

How about some stats on this Lutrell kid. I know of his father and knew his brother pretty well. How does he look as far as speed and size? What class is he going to be in? Also, is there any truth to the rumor that is going around concerning the posibility that defensive guru Eric Perry will no longer be there next year and Frank Shope will be calling the defensive shots? :sssh:

I would have to argue against the inclusion of Johnathan Lee on this team. I know it is your opinion and I respect that fully but he never really impressed me over the years. I would also have to say that JB Donahue, while a quality coach, would fall behind the 1999 QB Gary Greer. Also I would have to include Tim Rutledge at LB along with Thomas Goss. OL wise I would have to give props to Noah Asher at tackle and Shaun Doan would definitley be my center. Also in reference to HDE's post about Justin Curry I would probably include his son Logan as my TE (he was pretty large if I do recall). Just my opinion though. :thumb:
