Harlan vs Hazard week 2

Featured Replies

Harlan survived the start of a new offensive look, first game jitters, and Mikey Hensley to win at Cawood on Friday night. They must improve as they travel to Hazard next week to face a team that despite losing heavily to graduation defeated PCC. Lets talk it up! Has Hazard missed a beat in their "air raid" offense, or are there weaknesses to be exploited by the Big Green? This game may be a preview of the district title game in years future as Hazard and Harlan enter the new class A together next year. What do you think?

Loss of Campbell (ejection) could hurt Bulldogs next week, but they did play almost 3 qrts without him vs. pcc. Hazard has alot of young talent.

Well I will agree with the pappy on this one. While Harlan was able to squeeze out a win against Cawood, it is not going to be that easy against a year in - year out regional contender like Hazard. Defensively I am confident in the scheme that Coach Perry will put together and Coach Frank Shope will implement. However, Cawood was not a fast team and hasn't been for quite some time. I see this one looking like a possible early L for Harlan due to the fact that I heard from some pretty reliable sources that Jones seemed to be a little (for the lack of a better word) scared in the pocket after he got hit around a few times. If Cawood was getting to him and causing him to loose his composure in the pocket, Hazard will be on him all night. However, I look for JB to concentrate more on the ground after seeing what he has in Lundy and Belcher in the backfield. If Harlan will start to utilize the middle of the field (with both intermediate and long range routes) a little bit more with the passing game and take the speedy Hazard secondary out of the run stopping picture this could be a success for the dragons. Don't be suppressed though if JB comes out in a two back set and runs the ball to bring them up first and then goes over the top though. I see this being a close game but in my mind after week one, Hazard has appears to have the advantage. Would always like to see Harlan on top though!

The Bulldogs look to have the better athletes. The new offense of Harlan will need a lot of improvement for week two to stay close in this one.

No doubt Harlan's O line must step up big to protect Jones, however, Chase had several runs in the Cawood game after reading the defense spreading out for the pass. I think the uncertainty is more about the new schemes and less about worrying about a hit. Remember this is only his 2nd year and first as starter on this team, and on a JB Donahue team, the first in memory to offer a shotgun formation and credible passing threat. Hopefully, comfort and stability will come with repitition.

I understand what you are trying to say. But as far as the gun goes, JB has tried to put that in since 3 years ago when Donnie Clem was his QB. Due to the fact then that he couldn't get a good snap back to him before Donnie got crushed led to him taking it out. Also last year he experimented with it some, but much of the same occurred. And here is a complete throwback for you. If you go back to when Steven Brock was his QB in the early to mid 90's he did have some what of a pass-happy offense. I am just going to be interested to see how long this air raid offense lasts before he goes back under center with 2-3 men behind the QB.

As far as Jones goes, I agree. He is going to come along eventually. However, if he is going to be a good high school QB he is going to have to become somewhat multi-dimensional. I'm not saying he needs to be Vince Young and run the ball every play because that would defeat the purpose of having a passing game. However, if he is reading the defense and deciding to run the ball, he needs to get a little more bang for his buck than 8 yards on 10 carries. While I understand some of those rushing attempts were sacks, he is going to have to move a little more effectively because I've got a news-flash for you... M-boro, Breathitt, Hazard, Lynn Camp, Evarts and Somerset are all going to have faster secondaries, more effective D-Lines and more blitz packages coming his way than Cawood did. But I am not being critical of Chase by any means. He only has one game under his belt and like JB said in the paper Saturday "he made a few bad reads, slow reads, but for his time out in this offense, I think Chase played a solid game." So all I am saying is much what JB is saying. He needs to improve but it will come with time. The biggest thing I can say that he needs to gain is his composure. If he gets some more of that, he has a bright 2 years in front of him.

:thumb: Can't argue with that. Go Green! Isn't anyone going to speak for Hazard?????? Couldn't find any threads about the PCC/Hazard match up either. Hey Perry County you out there??

Oh. So you think I was rattled?:flame: I just got bored of throwing all over the mighty trojans, so we just decided to switch it up alittle and run all over them. Which we successfully accomplished.

Don't get me wrong my friend. I wasn't trying to start arguments on the web. And being from Harlan, there is nothing I would rather see than Harlan beat Cawood. However, from what I read (Coach Donahue in the paper), was told and the stats I saw (Wasn't able to make it to this one) I would argue that things could have been better. However, if you take the time to read some of my posts on both this page and the Cawood/Harlan page, you will see that I do not have a personal vendetta against you and that I think you do have great potential.

However, I will say something about your comment you posted on here. There is a fine line between cocky and confident. Don't compromise your reputation as being a leader (by example hopefully) on your team by letting players that are younger than you see posts like this one. Believe it or not, the freshmen and sophomores and maybe even some of your own classmates look to you to set the example, and they read this site too, it's not brand new. Talking as if you just beat the Danville Admirals on here, when you only beat a team that was coming off of a 1-11 season by less than two touchdowns, doesn't set a good example to follow. You're not a freshmen anymore; you’re supposed to be a leader. Don't let your teammates/coaches see this kind of talk on line because if you end up setting the tone in your own locker room that you are unstoppable, Harlan may be the ones being referred to as the team that went 1-10. Keep that in mind. Good luck on the rest of the season though and remember that my comments are meant to be taken personal, only to be constructive.

I'm sorry about that, some friends of mine got on here during school and posted that. I apologize. I'm not cocky at all.

Whoever posted those comments needs to realize they are only hurting the team. Harlan may well play the Rax bowl next year with a boatload of sophomores and a few seasoned seniors. What goes around comes around, especially in a small town. What has been said can't be taken back, but one can learn from the mistake. We can all post our disagreements in a respectful way. Also you should never allow another person access to your password, you will prob. get dinged on that too. :irked:

Hazard vs. Harlan in wk. #2 should be an exciting game, since Hazard apparently does not want to use their best athlete in many of their game plan schemes, although he was doubled team most of the nite when they did use him he stepped up to the challenge. This is not to say that the other kids aren't athletes-because many of them made great plays running the ball and a lot of great defensive plays-but when a kid has proven himself over and over for the last four yrs. playing his heart out and never complaining day in and day out, going up against bigger, older more experinced players in practice-(being told you have to pay your dues) and in games proving he can play up against anyone in this district as well as any other district or class you would think a team would reward a player like this by getting him the ball anyway they could. This years team is much better than a lot of people thought they would or could be-GOOD LUCK BULLDOGS.:fire::fire: :fire:

Well, welcome to the site. It sounds like there is some controversy on the team. But I agree, I think they are better than a lot of people give them credit for. Good luck this season.

Hmmmm....Ok, playing cross town rival...huge game...got to call the right play...I think the defense is vulnerable here so this play should work...we could score and win...everyone is happy...wait...I better REWARD this player instead...priorities...

Or how about this...ok...I want to throw/run the ball to/with....but he's got double coverage...well, let's do it anyhow...

C'mon are you serious? :irked:

Yes I'm serious , when you have players dropping the ball and you cont. to throw to them when you have a proven player you know will make the play 9times out of 10,but you act like he doesn't exist-yes I have a problem with that.I'm very glad we won the game but it was our defense that won the game. And if their young inexperinced quaterback hadn't thrown 2INT's,which one was returned for a TD it would have been a differnt story and the INT's were made by a SENIOR.No I'm not saying run this play or run that play to a certain player-but c'mon you have to get your key player into the game/plays some how.How many times was certain players last year and years before that had been doubled team but cont. to try and throw or run them just because they were" supposedly the go to guys".And yes if it is the cross town rival this player or players or seniors should get the oppurtunity to be a part of a great game since it is their last "cross town rival game" as you suggest to have the memories.
