Virgie beat Ockerman by 12 and around the 2 minute mark Ockerman was only down by 8. Ockerman had a hard time matching up with all of Virgie's big men. Actually, earlier this season when Virgie was missing one of their big men due to an injury, Ockerman beat them by 18. However, Virgie does have an outstanding team. You stated the Boone Co. middle schools don't play the catholic teams in N. KY. and that we just beat up on other Boone Co. Schools. Here are the results this past weekend. In the BCI Middle School State Tournament Ockerman beat Blessed Sacrament R.A. Jones beat Highlands (non-Boone Co. School) Ockerman made it farther than any other N.KY. school in the tournament In the St. Josephs tournament (8th Grade) Gray won this tournament beating St. Joe's in the finals Looks like the Boone Co. Schools fared well against non-Boone Co. teams

Austin Flannery, Ryan Popp, Andy Earls, Mikey Gabbard, and Cody Thamann beat Ryle freshman in a scrimmage game by at least 30 somthin points.

You should see three very good players that play for ockerman middle school.Andy Earls, Ryan Popp, and Austin Flannery are all outstanding players. Andy is 6'5" and can shoot mid range jump shots very well and finishes and rebound verywell also. Ryan Popp is a very quick 5'7" point guard that can shoot the mid range and take u to the hole. Austin Flannery is the purest shooter in ky, he has won 3 point contests at adidas midwest elite camp, YBOA nationals and many more camps. They all play for the Kentucky Patriots who won D1 state and placed 15th nationally.

Result: Ockerman 48 Turkeyfoot 37 16-point spread with 1:37 left, until the bench players came in. Ockerman goes to 9-1, Turkeyfoot goes to 7-3

Lost to Turkeyfoot by 7 on Turkeyfoot's home floor. Rematch is tonight at Ockerman, which is a full-size floor with a three-point line all the way around the arc. Turkeyfoot has an undersized floor that does not favor quick and good 3-point shooting teams. Should be a good game. Ockerman is 8-1, Turkeyfoot is 7-2.

There's also the end-of-season Boone/Kenton middle school tournament, as well as the KBA state middle school tournament in February... Good luck to all NKY teams!

BC Rebels 8th grade AAU team defeated the Panthers (all kids who will attend Holy Cross next year) 70-31 last night. Rebels are 5-0 now in AAU league play. Rebels hit 10 of 15 3's in the game, with Flannery leading the way with 6. Earls, Popp, Flannery, Thamann, Schultz, and Gabbard all played very well and shot better than 50%. The guards have been able to penetrate well against zones and man-to-man and create havoc on the press. These kids have had success against plenty of Catholic and inner-city teams via AAU ball over the past few years. Ockerman 8th grade team is currently 7-1 and in first place in the Boone/Kenton public school league.

Gabbard, Flannery, Popp, and Earls will attend Boone. In my opinion, Popp and Gabbard will be, and have been, the best guard combination in N KY in their class. Gabbard has good handles, and Popp is a good defender and unselfish assist maker. Both are quick, can score as necessary, and can break defenses down and get losts of open looks for their teammates. Both have and are playing together in AAU ball and compliment one another. With these two and Josiah Schultz, this guard trio is hard to guard. Flannery is the best 3 point shooter in his class in Kentucky and has won 2 national three point shooting AAU contests and owns a state AAU three-point shooting record. He also almost broke the D2 8th grade state tournament three point shooting AAU record as a 7th grader last year. He would have broken it if one of the teams hadn't forfeited. He is the second leading scorer on the Kentucky Patriots AAU team that has won state the last two years and finished 15th in the nation. He has led the Ockerman team in scoring the last three years, although Ockerman has fairly balanced scoring between Flannery, Earls, and Popp.

I have seen most of the best 2010 players in AAU ball over the last few years in Kentucky in games, tournaments, and camps. He is very good, and there are several other very good players in this class throughout the area and state in my opinion.

I think they have already played the top teams. The Newport Wildcats and Boone County Rockets may be the toughest teams left on their schedule. Ockerman 2010 hasn't played Highlands. Ockerman 2010 has an AAU team now that plays at Sports of All Sorts as the Boone County Rebels. Currently, they are 4-0 in first place in the 14 team division. They beat the Blue Aces, the Magic, the Raiders (combination of Gray's best players, 1 of Turkeyfoot's starters, three kids from the N KY Jazz, and 1 from Pendleton), and Turkeyfoot's team by 17. Good luck to Gray in the Catholic tournament. I look for them to win it.

I just wanted to note 3 or 4 of the better 8th grade teams in NKY at this point. Highlands should also be in the mix. They also have some good players. Ockerman beat Gray by 5 in their first meeting this year. A lot can still change in the next few years, and only time will tell. One good player moving in could make a contender even out of a weaker team.

These Ockerman players have consistently played and done very well against the best AAU teams in the nation. Last year, their KY Patriots AAU team almost won the D2 AAU 8th grade state tournament as 7th graders, falling to Lexington Catholic 8th grade team by a basket in overtime. The Boone Rebels 8th grade AAU team just defeated the Blue Aces last week, and have never lost to the Blue Aces, which contain kids from St. Joseph and kids that will attend Covington Catholic. Nobody knows for sure. Only time will tell :-)

The big kid from Ockerman (Earls) is 6'5" and is the best big eighth-grader in Northern Kentucky. He could start varsity for Boone now. Ockerman also has the best three-point eighth-grade shooter in the region and state in Flannery. He has won two national three-point shooting competitions in the past year in AAU ball and owns an AAU state three-point shooting record. Ockerman's point guard, Popp, is one of the best point guards in Northern Kentucky and the state and has won every matchup this year so far. All three also play for the Kentucky Patriots AAU team that has won the KY state championship the last two years and placed 3rd at the YBOA national tournament. In my opinion, they are the best incoming high school class in Northern Kentucky. Add Gabbard from RA Jones to the mix, and Boone has a very strong incoming class. The 2009 and 2010 class from Boone together could be very strong in a few years. The 8th grade Boone County Rebels AAU team defeated the Turkeyfoot AAU team by 17 a couple weeks ago and defeated the Ryle AAU team by 3. Both Gray and Ockerman also defeated the Ryle 9th grade team in scrimmages this season. Turkeyfoot and Gray also have good 2010 teams. Ockerman, Gray, and Ryle have been pretty even the last few years, with each team splitting their games with each other. Ockerman also defeated Virgie and Sebastian Middle School this year by 10+ to 20 points. Both of those teams won state championship tournaments in middle school ball last year. Brewer is a good complete player. But he is 5'11", not 6'1". I am 6'0", and he is a little shorter than me when I stand next to him. I don't expect him to grow much more, and he hasn't grown much the last year or so. Brewer is strong, but Earls is good enough to check Brewer inside, and Popp is quick enough to play with him on the perimeter. These boys have all played against each other in AAU ball for several years.
