and Im sure others that are out there thinking the samething, but havent said it..it also shows how much of a clue YOU DONT have when it comes to all of the factors that go into coaching and pulling a team together, especially a merged team of two schools who ever since the beginning of time have despised, yet respected the other at the sametime on the playing field, court, etc...Im a Mercer fan, as a matter of fact Im a fan of all the teams in the Danville, Harrodsburg surrounding area, so when I say this, I mean no disrespect..but, it's not like two major football powerhouses are combining. You act like this is Boyle Co. merging into Danville and them playing 1A... ..It's Mercer County, never known as an annually, traditionally strong football team and Harrodsburg, a school who's numbers have decreased over 10% over the last 10 years..and who only won 3 ballgames last year, a school that hasnt really made any noise in the playoffs the last 8-10 years (since the Craig Yeast, Dennis Johnson, etc. years).. Im all for this merger, Im 100% for it, and personally feel that it will be the greatest thing that has ever happened to the Mercer County/Harrodsburg community..so, the comments I made in the above paragraph were meant in no disrespect, pretty much just facts.. But, JDG, Im going to take the high road on this and accept the realization that you know nothing about what all goes into to being a success in playing football, let alone coaching..because if you did, you wouldnt have posted some of the things you said. Not the case. Mike Check was correct in saying that this was in the plans before and when Jaggers took the job, it's actually been in the works, well talks of it happenin for 20+ years...I can promise you that Mike Check didnt mean what you think it might have sounded like in his post.Iit just so happens that this was the year for it to finally happen, a year shy of class realignment. But, if you (Im not saying you do) or others happen to think that this merger was planned in part of giving the Mercer County football team the benefit of playing with bigger numbers of their 2-A counterparts, then you couldnt be farther from the truth. No fault in being curious or questioning this, though.. :thumb:

Really? Who had LARGER enrollments and couldn't win 2A? (seriously, I am just curious can't think of any) Mercerburg will be in the 950 student range. Not that Mercr is a shoe in, still a lot of games to play. Using your reasoning, all the big 4A schools like Dunbar and Henderson, should always beat the other 4A schools who have 200 or in alot of cases 700 less students.Ten years ago , 1996,Nelson County won the 4A title and just 2 years before that they were playing 3A football. They had 4A numbers in 94 but they didn't win 3A.How close is your team, Henry County ,to 3 A numbers now?

Again, Don't you think that the head people Mercer/H'burg schools have looked into this?! Do you think they would have even considered merging this year if playing as one team wasnt going to be possible?! My logical answers to these questions are YES...and NO. If it passes through the Mercer board next week, which it will, they will be playing as one team. Take it to the bank. :jump: :banana:

It has to pass through the Mercer board yet, which it will. Them playing together next year as one team hasnt been penciled in, yet, but it will. The Mercerburg HogDawgs will be kicking off the 2006-2007 season together.

I'm sure you arent meaning to be serious, but that was also the rumor going around last year, but if you saw the facilities that are being built over at Mercer then you and others who might be thinking that, will know that rumor is false. :jump: ...and, to add to the rumor ring, titletownclown, I've heard that there are some seniors in KY next year who are puting Mercer Co. at the top of their college list, due to facilities!! haha

This link has the enrollments for the 2005-2006 school year http://www.khsaa.org/reports/20052006schoolenrollmenttotalsbyenroll.pdf It says that Mercer has 715 and that H'burg has 239, but I either heard or read somewhere that H'burgs enrollment number is actually right at 200 (199 to be exact). With those numbers, the enrollment would be right at 954, but who knows?? ...but throwing in graduation numbers of both schools classes this year, the incomming freshmen in the fall, those kids whose parents may pull them out and send them to other local school systems, Im saying that the enrollment will be between 900-950(give or take). ..According to the report in the link, they WON'T have a 200 student advantage over over the largest 2-A teams for next year,probably not even 100, let alone 200. They have L'ville Western at 908, Lone Oak at 840. Will they have an advantage of some sort? Sure, only for a year I would think that they will still play 2-A next year, but even if, by chance, they got bumbed to 3-A,then I would still like their chances for success. Tougher all around competition amongst 3-A, no doubt, but I would and will still like their chances.

Keep in mind the breeze that was blowing yesterday. 4.3, 4.4.,4.5, 4.6..whatever they ran, it doesnt matter. Anybody who has seen those boys mentioned play, know that they are all very talented, dang good HS football players that can take it for "6" anytime they touch it. This year should be fun! :thumb:

I'm betting they already checked this out with the KHSAA before they did it. Wouldn't you think that the powers to be would have already checked this out.I heard that students were going to share both buildings for different classes being taught at different campuses.

I read somewhere earlier in this post where someone said something about the "Razorbacks", that would be cool. That right there is a fierce a$$ animal, plus it would be like H'burg was bringing some of their tradition to the new merger. For those that dont know(which Im sure arent many), HHS official nickname is the "Pioneers", but they go by the "Hogs" just as much, if not more.

Mercer made a run last year finishing 10-2 and losing to Russell at Russell 41 to 28.

Now, back to the orignal topic at hand, the actual merger and not opponents possibly playing 9 games for a year and not 10... Anybody have a feel for how things will go tonite with the Board meeting at H'burg? One is scheduled, correct?

I know exactly what Im talking about when it comes to scheduling. I realize that schools dont have to be let out of contracts without paying some sort of fee, but I also realize that if any schools on H'burgs schedule are left short a game, that they would understand the situation at hand and not expect any sort of payment..which, I think they (opponents) will. ...and, lets get one thing straight, I, by NO MEANS meant any disrespect to Trimble or Owen County. If you look back at my posts I listed their names, then "etc."..thinking that maybe, just maybe, you and others that might have gotten you feathers ruffled would realize that I was meaning all schools that might be potentially effected by this merger, and being short a game, not just those schools. I guess that was too much to seriously expect though?! Im sorry that you took it as a slap to Trimble or Owen, because that was not, by any stretch of the imagination a knock against them or their football programs!!! ..in saying this, I dont think that any of the schools on H'burgs schedule will be short a game..for their sake, I hope not, but if so, it will just be for ONE year..thats it!! Right you are...I look at it kind of like this Mike , you can't make everybody happy, and it's no different in this case it seems. People out there that are more worried about opponents having 9 games instead of 10, and not whats best for a whole community...WOW! :scared:

Yep, you're right, my loyalties in this whole thing lie with the H'burg/ Mercer County students, players, coaches and the entire community...as Im sure you feel about your school, community, etc...And, as far as you thinking that Im taking so "personally"...buddy, you're far from correct. I dont let things on a message board get to me "personally". Im all for being respectful, accomadating to others needs, etc...but, in this case, when it gets down to the bottom line, you ( people deciding on the Mercer/H'burg merger) have to look out for your own well being (moreso the kids), and not worry about if this should happen or not because Trimble Co, Owen Co., etc. may only have 9 games next year. Well, wont that just be horrible?!!! Wouldnt that be a headline in a paper... With all do respect to the teams H'burg is scheduled to play, I must say...big deal.. Those schools can find games if they want, just check out the "open date" links on the KHSAA page..plenty of schools are looking for games, now, they may have to travel a little ways or play a bigger, smaller school...but, the fact that "it will be tough finding games for these schools" shouldnt even be spoke of, let alone considered in the decision of the merger taking place for the 2006 season or for any merger of any other schools in the future :jump:

E-town was down last year, true, LAST YEAR. They have everybody back off of a very, very young team. Im not saying that they are a given state title contender...but year in, year out they have just as much talent as anybody in AA, and two of the past three years they have had probably more talent than anybody in AA. Glasgow was young too, werent they?? ..Whatever the case, I was just throwing the first few teams out there that came to my mind...

They would be 3A I would think, being a school right around 900 students give or take?! And, its not like they would be the outright, given state champs...people like Glasgow, O'Cath, Russell, Ft.Campbell, E-town etc. will have the same amount of talent, whether people choose to believe that or not....Im sure Jaggers and Co. will have a great amount of pressure on them to win the state championship just because of the merger...and if this merger does take place, it's not like it's going to be a 'cakewalk'...bringing the parents together, the players, etc. will take something nothing short of extraordinary for it to succeed up to the 'outsiders' expectations (meaning a state championship). Jaggers wont be the only one neededing to work his magic, it would take his entire staff, players and the whole Mercer/Harrodsburg community to get this program to where everyone will expect it to be.
