Maybe more are being offered, but some kids will be hurt by this merger. Example, I am guessing the varsity basketball teams each had 12 players. Now Mercer's new combined basketball team will probably still have 12 players on its roster. Will it be a better product? Probably, but there will be 12 kids going to school that will not get to play basketball that would have if there were two separate schools.
As for the "one year advantage" I would say that this did in fact have an impact on the decision. Why? Ha Ha, Not because of Russell (or Belfry or Western), but Again the all mighty dollar. The better the football team, the more people attend, the more money is made. It's unbelievable how much money is made on a good football team. Now of course, this money is generally what keeps a lot of the other programs afloat financially, but it still is an impact.
I am SURE it COST much more for the quick consalidation than they are going to make off this 1 season. I think you need to give the administration a little more credit than that.

The reason for the merger right away was HHS's super was retiring and they voted to merge with MC. MC then accepted the merger and rolled ALL extra activities into one school to help with costs and be able to offer more sports and activities. Like I said ALL extra activities...band, drama, science club, etc. I dont think the decision was made so "we can have a one year football advantage over 2A, especially RUSSELL".

Tell all this enrollment stuff to the NKY 4A who has gotten spanked by 3a,2a, and even 1a teams this year. They evidently dont realize that teams with a higher enrollment are supposed to win.

Hensley is a good coach No one questioned his creativity when he was winning games. I am sure he has not changed his play calling or scheme. Just rough time at Dunbar.
Agree...buy I am not sure DH calls the offensive plays...can anyone confirm this.

From looking at PLD's remaining schedule...looks like the season could be a catastrophe...thoughts?
-
I disagree, I think that their qb has been making plays all season and has carried a pretty good load on his shoulders. He has passed around 60% every game. What more can you ask from a qb when they only throw the ball 4 or 5 times a game. I know he has had at least a 30 or 40 yard completion each game. I dont understand the scheme at dunbar either. I dont see the logic in getting in a two back set every down and running fullback dive when the D is putting 9 guys in the box. I have seen their qb and other skill kids play in many games this year, and they are doing the best that they can with the play calling right now, in my opinion that is what is hurting them the most.
They dont get into a 2 back set everydown and run dive...sometimes they get in a one back set and run dive:lol:

This score is a little suprising.

Who is #8 for Western? He really impressed my against North Laurel.
Don't know...
-
Just looked at boths remaining schedules and it looks like both will be cruising the rest of the reg season.
-
I believe there are a few teams we may be leaving out.
Western

Thats why i don't put any stock in polls.
Sorry just never put any stock in them, you know as well as i do that any thing can happen on any given night.
You all beat Garrad what 40 somtin to nothin
If we beat Garrad 40 somthin + 1 does that mean we are better that russell?
just a thought to think on
You all? I dont live in MC.
-
Anything can happen on any given night. I don't use previous games as measuring sticks. You can't tell what kind of TEAM they have or potential they have from previous game scores
Well I cant speak for Corbin...but if MC played LCA again tomorrow it would be much more of the same. Also, most polls are based off previous games as measuring sticks.

I watched Russell play last year at Pappa John's and I know first hand that they are the real deal! Casey Clark could possibly be the best back in 2A. All i know about Mercer is hear say, so until i see them play i will go with Russell.
P.S. Russell could only get better from last year....... look out!
A good measuring stick for you would be LCA...you guys played them last week and MC opened with them.
-
That's what I like about this Mercer team. No longer than they have been playing together they really seem to be coming together as a tight group. That defense will flat out get after you and hit you.
Where MC would beat Western is being more disciplined.
-
YES THAY ARE.............but not as fast as2Mr Jackson:sssh:
Have you seen them play? Western TOP to BOTTOM is probably a little faster than MC. They may not have anyone faster than CJ but last time I checked it was a team game.
-
Word I got tonight is to not overlook Louisville Western in 2A. Apparently, like Mercer, they have mucho speedo. Looks like 2A is hot this year.
Western is REAL FAST.

CAN ANYBODY SAY CHUCK SMITH?????????
Chuck Smith

I started a thread for you. Seriously, this isn't about Russell.

It was not that long ago but there have been alot of changes. A depleted Tomcat Offensive line is now healthy, their best playmaker has moved back to where they need him most at WR and their RB who is loaded with potential has finally started to realize it.
Ashland more than doubled Raceland in total yardage, time of possesion and most importantly turnovers. The last along with giving up a couple of big plays on special teams killed the Tomcats in that game. Good teams somitimes stub their toe and lose to a team they really shouldn't lose to. Ashland is a very good team and will be a force in the class AAA playoffs.
If Ifs and nuts were candy....Still took an L.
-
They don't have a QB that can throw and they have no speed to run on the outside. The fullback dive has worked for them in the past couple of years with Bobby Vyverburg and Will Wright.
I do agree though, they have a ton of formations but basically run a two back set and run between the tackles every play.
They have some nice looking kids...some very physical kids (especially their D Line) but just need to be more creative. Instead of so many formations maybe stick to a few formations with more varied plays...JMO what do I know.
-
^I know, it's just hard to fathom though, PLD with the worst offense in town, it almost doesn't seem right.
I think their scheme is terrible. They get in a ton of formations and then run FB dive. Must be really tough to scout them.
-
If you think that Ashland team that played Racleand is the same team now then your badly mistakin.
lol...I know it was SOOOO LONNNGGG a ago.
-
Ashland, Greenup and Boyd. Greenup and Boyd aren't power house 3A teams, but all three are local rivalries as well. I wasn't bragging as much as I was indicating these weren't weak smaller schools. And Ashland beat Russell in 3OT
Well wasn't Ashland beaten by Raceland who was beaten tonight by LCA who was destroyed by Mercer who was, who was, who was....The thread is about the MC/BC game
-
Does every thread have to turn into Russell vs. Mercer?
Agreed:thumb:
LCA vs. Bath: Predictions/Hopes
in KY Football (High School)

Where did you hear about this "high powered offense" at? LCA has been high powered the last 2 or 3 years...but was going to be really young this year so they switched offenses. As a matter of fact, Coach Rains has said all year that it would take his offense awhile to catch up to his defense. If LCA is so "weak" why didnt Corbin blow them out?
Oh predictions
