  1. Read this article from Larry Vaught that came from Monday's Advocate Messenger. Go down to # 4 on Larry's list. It doesn't sound like Coach Jaggers is without options.

I wonder how accurate those stats are...if they are accurate and they have a lick a talent that will be the biggest Oline in state (add small college ball to that). Future looks good for MC.

  2. Good luck to Mercer County in 2006. As an old player and coach, it is great to see the good things happening with the merger and new facility which is incredible. Hope to see the HogDogs or whatever they become on the carpet in December.

If you have ideas on a good mascot, list them here. Who knows, some one may be watching and like your idea the best.:sssh:

I have heard...staying with the Scottish theme...The Highlanders (as in William Wallace, etc). I think thats pretty unique and cool. I hope they continue to consider it.

  3. I was talking to one of Marty's former assistant coaches last night and I told him that Marty knows what to do with running backs.

I am predicting the "bone" and the "broken bone" and (at least) three 1,000 yard rushers for Mercer County in '06.

A wise man once said, "There are only three possible outcomes when you throw the ball and two of those are bad."

I know an Old Wise Man who used to say that too...

  4. Talked with some people last night who are in the loop...Mercer County will continue to be the name of the school but the mascot will change. The colors will continue to be Red white and blue. Mercer predom uses Red and White and Hburg predom uses Blue and White. The New school will make sure it uses blue more than MC currently does. From what I was told they are going to let the students vote over the summer on a new mascot. Didn't say how they were going to come up with a list but the students would have a list to vote from.

  5. Actually the Tigers return very few starters from last season. On offense we should have only 3 of 11 returning starters (RB Vic Anderson, OT Corey O'Daniel, OG Pat McDonald). Defensively we lost all 11 from last year. In addition, both our placekicker and punter are gone. We have some fairly decent young players moving up, but they will need to be on a steep learning curve given the strength of our early schedule.

Based on what is returning, it looks like:

    1. Male

    2. pebbles

    3. PRP

4-9 some teams out in the state

    10. St. X.

I'm sorry Coach Holtz...but there is NOT 9 teams better than X.

  6. Most good wing-T teams do run a "spread offense". Out of the double wing set you can flat motion into trips. Most good teams utilize THEIR SYSTEM to whatever the defense is giving them. Any good offense should be versatile whether running a spread or wing t.

    "We don't rent pigs"

  7. GusMcRae, I assume your talking about this year, and if my memory serves me correctly they didn't run a base "wing-t"... while it was a while ago, I remember them running a mixture of formations because I was impressed by their offensive play calling... and i played defensive end THIS year. That game our linebackers and lineman got eaten alive by quick strong good offensive lineman blockers, add a VERY talented running back and 2 dependable recievers and a smart atheletic qb, and theres your reason why we had trouble stopping LCA. We were still working the kinks out of the linebacker possition, a new coaching staff mixed things up a bit at the time, for example, I had started linebacker since soph yr, and this year I was moved to defensive end, new players at new possitions... the tough week before, vs. Holy Cross hurt us with injuries, especially our stud tight end/defensive tackle, but I'm not trying to make excuses, LCA was VERY good this year, but they definately don't just run a wing-t like bardstown bethlehem.

Also Centurion, no disrespect, but Btown Beth in NOT a base Wing-T team. They do sprinkle in a few wing t plays and formations here and there...but they are def not a wing t based offense.

Actually, LCA is very much wing-T. They run a variety of formations but their play calling is all base wing-t..trap, belly, down, down-option, buck, kick, waggle, etc. Wing t is not just formations but schemes as well...

  9. I see your point Goherd, maybe it is just my personal opinion, but the wing-t isn't some excellent offensive strategy. If it worked THAT great more than just 1 team in the finals would run it. It has been my personal experience, as a football player at linebacker, that the wing-t was one of the easier offenses to stop, and I know that is very subjective but that's what i feel.

Didn't have much luck stopping LCA ;)
