  1. Must beg to differ Guru. The roster turned North quickly after being billed as a local venue to be able to look at Southerna and Southeastern players who normally wouldn't play in an "all star" game. And when I say North, I don't necessarily mean extreme northern Kentucky. But Lexington is not near the Tennessee Border.
  2. Saw him at the Harlan/Bell B-Ball game last night? Could it be????
  3. Its been done, ala the Harrodsburg area merger. I guess what I'm saying is that yes, the issues are different, but there ARE issues. The right coach, with the right district, and the right community support can get it done quicker. Its just that Harlan County has not got a great history of pulling together. Maybe it will be different in this area, but I doubt it. Starting in 3A should help.
  4. Thats what I like about you 'buster. You are just plain nice.
  5. Jury will be out a long time on "the best high school in the state". However, its time to seize the day. If HC can't improve with this new facility, its leadership. No reason football wise, HC can't eventually be among the best in their class, but it will take time, a la LCCHS.
  6. I know for a fact of at least 7 kids from Harlan County and Harlan Ind. Schools were sent in.
  7. I've avoided commenting, but what the heck, I've never shyed away before now. I don't know how this team was billed by the organizers, but it was communicated on WYMT, in the Corbin Newspaper and to the schools as a South-Eastern Kentucky bowl against counterparts in Tennessee to showcase local talent. Well, Woodford county and others are not in SE Ky. I was under the impression that it was not a Kentucky all star game, but a true Border Battle. so much for that, I guess lookin at the list. What happened?? Looks like some teams aorund I-75 got some players in in our region, but not the rest of the schools. Maybe depended on who the coaches were.............
  8. Is there a listing somewhere, or just inside info?
  9. any update on when the Bluegrasspreps.com team will be online?
  10. I wouldn't take the Steelers to win at Jenkins under certain circumstances, but at Cumberland with this much at stake? Cumberland by 28 points.
  11. Clay has a more balanced offensive attack. However they will have to step it up on defense to stop PCC's running attack. This one will be close with Clay edging it out 42-40.
  12. Good old Bungluster! Always can count on him for a slee-knapper! Well the Dragons woes are the result of Class A syndrome in a small town with not many jobs available. Also there are a couple classes where there are just not many boys. Harlan Graduated big Senior Classes in 2005 and 2007 with some real players in a smaller class in 2006. This year's senior class is decieving in size and not deep in experience. 10 seniors. 3- 4 year men;Aaron Jones, Westley Howard, and Jon Heck. 3- 3 year players: Chase Jones;Josh Johnson, and Bradford Marsili. 3 - first year players, and Hunter Luttrell, who sat out last year as a transfer. Chase only really played at his position 2 years, Bradford the same. The kicker is having only 2-3 Juniors, one of which is a first year guy. Several good sophomores who had to contribute and some really young supporting linemen. Effort all year has been remarkable. Natural talent arguable. As is usual in years like this one, you have to win the ones you should. Harlan had opportunities to win over Cawood, but just didn't get it done. I will refrain from commenting on the Jenkins game, but suffice it to say, Harlan should be in the playoffs by all thats right and holy. What is remarkable is that in a losing season where the rats start jumping ship, Harlan has only lost 1 player. One. The guys have never given up, have displayed character, grace, and toughness. They have been a real witness in a difficult situation. Harlan will be back, though it still could be lean for a couple of years unless what some think will happen and some county kids decide to come to Dragon land to play. Middle school has some big classes of boys coming up. I'll shut up now, afore Lungduster scolds me. ( just a funnin' big guy)!
  13. Its been very rare( at least in my memory)for any team in Harlan County to beat all the other teams in one year. Cumberland seemed poised to capture the last "Kings of the County" title in Harlan County this year. Cawood had their say and it wasn't to be. Harlan was the last with back to back wins over all other Harlan county schools in 2005 and 2006.
  14. The score doesn't indicate how well the Dragons played tonight. The size and speed of this very good Perry Central team finally wore down the Big Green. #23 is an incredibly slippary and quick back for PCC. Congratulations though to the Dragon seniors and the rest of the team for never giving up and for playing with intensity and class. Aaron Jones #73 Harlan Nose Gaurd ( yes he is my son) played an incredible defensive game. He and Westley Howard #74, along with the other 4 year senior #26 John Heck played their last home game well and even though it was indeed a loss, it just didn't seem quite like it at the end of the game. Congrats to PCC on the win and to the Dragons for a good send off for the Seniors at home despite a tough season.
  15. No one in Harlan is interested in your sympathy. The boys play hard and accept losing as well as when they were winning and with class. They leave it all on the field.
  16. Hazard made Cumberland look bad and will again IMO in the playoffs. But, then, they made the rest of the Harlan Co. teams look bad too. Cumberland by 18.
  17. I agree about Hunter on defense. His speed may have saved a couple TDs or at least delayed them. The Dragons must move on. thanks to Pineville, Harlan can get to the playoffs by beating Jenkins in 2 weeks.
  18. Skins will give Hazard some big problems, should be the game of the year in district 7. Now can someone who knows about these things explain to me why a coach up 35 points with the down team substituting Frosh and Sophs everywhere, keep his starters in and not substitute. Hats off to Coach J.B. Donahue of the Dragons who is pure class. Others should take lessons. Back to the game great win for Cumberland, but the penalties really added up and would burn them against a more explosive offensive team.
  19. Hazard will know they have been in a fight, but Mr. Campbell and Mr. Olinger will be the difference. Hazard 34 Evarts 24
  20. I didn't say you stopped playing. I'm saying Evarts, Harlan, or any team, esp. a team not used to winning, can get their head turned by a long sought after win. Its human nature. No disrespect, just my opinion. Thats why its hard to get a losing program turned around. Letdowns are tough to fight. Ask a coach. I'm just posting my opinions. You have to get a thick skin on this board. Again, no disrespect intended. I'm a Dragon, but I'm not out to make anyone feel bad. There are those folks on here. But, by nature opinions sometimes sting a little. To the extent that it doesn't affect Harlan, best wishes to the Wildcats rest of the year, and for that matter the Redskins, or even Lungbuster's Trojans. Its good to have Evarts fans on. Not many online.
