  1. i umpired for several years and yes definitely catcher's interference, dead ball and batter goes to first base. JD

Are you sure it is a dead ball? I never umped but played long enought to see this several times.

What if the batted ball (after the batter was interfered with) goes into a gap and the batter could have easily taken 2nd?

The call I have always seen is: the ump signals for interference and the play is continued to see what happens. If the batted ball is caught for an out, the batter is awarded first. If the ball is played as a basehit; no harm/no foul.

  2. It can only be interference if the ump sees it and calls it. Just unfortunate that in this case the ump is .... If the bat hit the glove it should be interference. The ump lets the play develop and corrects it after the play has been made.

If umps changed their minds everytime a team argued a call or non-call, the game would be a complete disaster.

  3. Will you be watching?

Was to start around at 1:00 pm, now pushed back to 1:30.

I have to correct myself. The service is still scheduled to start at 1:00, but in all likelihood will start a little late. It is not pushed back to 1:30.

It is a huge news event, so I will watch.

  4. Who are some of the people that have helped improve the quality of football in this state? I can think of alot more than these 4, but this is a start.

1 & 2- Tim Couch & Mike Holcomb: These guys were taking the passing/spread game to an entire new level BEFORE the arrival of Hal Mumme, who certainly helped it along. Now, it is hard to imagine HS football in this state with out the spread game and the way it has generated excitement, etc.

3- Jerry Claiborne: Lead the way to bring back spring practice in the HS's. Former UK coach and player, as well as a player at Hopkinsville. Those 10 extra practices, which can be in full pads, blocking, tackling, etc. add up to 30 practices over a career in HS that a player can use to improve techniques and fundamentals.

4- Chuck Smith: Leading Boyle to 5 straight state titles made other county schools(especially those sharing a county with city schools) think it was possible for them to have quality football on a consistent basis.

Tell the rest of us your difference makers!

How about Hal Mumme? Like him or not, it was when he became the head coach at UK that teams around the state started focusing on the passing game alot more.

  5. How much do these mock drafts and workout camps include foreign players? It seems to me that most, if not all NBA teams would keep their international "finds" top secret, so as not to let others know who some players are. Of course everybody knows Rubio.

What I am saying is that if you throw in a handful of international players in the draft, Meeks may certainly drop lower than these projections.

  6. guy 1: Ok, so I know this kid on my block who is only 10 years old, but he is a stud.

guy 2: Yeah, he can shoot the lights out. Well, it is on an 8 ft. rim, but man he's worth a look!

  7. That is the best way I think I've heard this explained thus far. :thumb:

Only thing I might add is that these ball players have to perform well in the class room as well. Student athlete in the form of a b-ball player at a major university is no easy task.

Not necessarily the best way to look at it. As freshmen, you take freshman level classes.

As an athlete, we expect all players to come in and show they can compete with seniors.

We allow the opportunity for growth in the classroom, but expect to overachieve in athletics.

  8. As far as asking kids to play........there have been some key athletes each year that are not football players that are being called in and asked to play football. These kids are basketball players who have made on impact on football as 1 year or 2 year players. The kids are not lazy and it is not a majority. My issue is the whole focus is on football and other sports are getting second tier status.[/QUOTE]

Then you have issue with the majority of high schools. Football gets top billing at most places because it is a revenue sport. Without football bringing in gate money alot of other sports dont exist; especially in small districts such as Bellevue.

  9. Anyone see this show?

They take some of the greatest warriors from history, analyze their strengths/weaknesses, weapons and tactics feed them into a computer sinulation to determine head-to-head winners.

Some of the warriors so far: apache, gladiators, ninja, samuri, vikings, pirates...

    Pretty neat show!
