Got another text back from him a few minutes ago: "Sent that to a HS buddy. He wants to know if we're sure those are *annual* salaries."

So could that mean these are bonuses and not their actual or “annual” salaries? This would make much more sense to me.

You honestly don’t believe Highlands is a target in football?  Every school that plays them right now is relishing the thought of not only beating them, but beating them soundly because of past history.  As for past player comment, it comes with the territory.  I always thought it was “Play To Win” and the fun part was in winning.

I also have heard from many that it was not “fun” to play football at Highlands the past few years.  So you are correct in that it needs to be fun and the kids have to want to put in the time, but that starts at the top and trickles down.

I agree it is time to flip the script and give the kids what they deserve, a fun experience where everyone is all in for the team and not out for themselves.  There is no “I” in team and that means ALL players get the same treatment whether they are stars or backups.

I will say this to the kids since they read and hear this and are influenced by it.  You get out of things what you put into them.  You want to get better then stay after practice and work on your craft.  Coaches need not be present.  This helps bring comraderie and unity to the team.  Don’t believe all of this rhetoric about lack of talent, believe in yourself as a football player , work hard and good things will come your way.

Well said JOAT. I agree 1000%

Am I allowed to say that? I don’t want to put any unnecessary pressure on anyone.

Nope. Nate isn't going anywhere- has it absolutely made at Douglass..

    • Majority of his staff are IN THE BUILDING at FD.
    • They have classes of in school weights.
    • Has a great day job in the building.
    • School is the 'new kid on the block' in Lex (the only weight rooms in the state that are better are UK and Louisville's- I'm not so sure WKU and EKU's are better, all things considered)
    • Fayette County pays better than FTH (teaching and coaching)
    • Cost of living is LOWER in Fayette Co

Yes, why in the world would he ever consider coming to Highlands. I did not realize that Highlands would be such a step down but thx for sharing.

Would think they didn't make much this season with limited crowds right?

Yep, people will always blame the limited crowds for the reason Highlands football  has not been getting donations and alumni support of years past.

Just a reminder to those that have forgotten the reality that football and its revenue is still King and the cash cow at Highlands. All sports not named football should be in full support of an over the top hire to restore business as usual in Ft Thomas. JMO

Yes you do. There are a few in the program now that are just unrealistic for their own kids. Those are the cancer. Somehow they think it's okay to call coaches and talk to them about their little Johnny. I'm convinced this is what happened. Coach James was flooded with nonsense that even the seasoned Coach couldn't handle. It's a real shame actually. Most of the parents are really humble but all it takes is One Clown to ruin everything. Someone told me that they think it's the same idiot that poisoned the punch 3 years ago when the former coach was then being ousted only to save the day by starting a resistance. I personally don't know the dude but from what I have heard he's a real charmer.

Wow someone just got blowed up.

I sure am glad my kids don’t play anymore, there would be “stand down” conversations.

No one said anything about James making more money. What was mentioned, though, was that there was possibly more money on the table for coaching staff... and lo and behold, the day after it's announced that he is staying at Franklin County, Coach James is soliciting applicants for 1 to 2 spots on his coaching staff. So either he had 1 to 2 guys quit and needs to replace him, or suddenly he has the ability to hire 1 to 2 more coaches on his staff.

I would never say that. And I haven’t suggested it. I have only suggested that whoever the coach is, if they’re fortunate enough to have their own feeder system, needs to participate in it. Know the kids, the coaches, etc. Weinrich didn’t do that. I can’t fathom why he would choose not to. And then people wonder why highlands doesn’t draw kids anymore and why others  leave. Their jr league accepts kids from any city, that’s a huge advantage, and they get them. But then they leave and go back to their district high school or somewhere else. Maybe having the HC around, talking to them and showing players some attention, would allow Highlands to keep some of those kids.

You didn’t answer my question and I don’t care about the former coach. Need to be positive and proactive and let the past go.

You do realize now that this all was handled 3 yrs ago for a reason.

Alright, now you guys are killing me.  Man I'm going to embarrass myself with this, but there's this king, Joffrey, who is probably one of the most hated characters in TV history.  Just cruel, stupid and a terrible, terrible person.  But he's king.  Then there's his grandfather who is kind of like the chief of staff and is the one who actually runs things and people obey.  The king has this habit of constantly announcing he's king and his grandfather points out that any real king shouldn't have to constantly tell people that.  Now sit down and shut up and I'll go win this war for you.   I can only assume that is the scenario that Don is hinting at.

    Careful.

I think it should matter going forward. There is a lesson to be learned for the next HC. I don’t doubt that he may have been generous with his time with Roller, as they were former teammates. But one coach on one team for a season or two is not enough. He had been notoriously absent from the jr league and middle school.  Zero initiative on his part to be even remotely involved. I just hope that’s not the case with the next coach.

Who would you like to be the next coach? I don’t think anyone has asked this question to you but your posts suggest that it should be someone that would put FTJFL first.

I believe Coach James attended the small two day clinic that Coach Muller put on after he retired. One of the things Coach Muller talked about was the “Beat Colonels”. That he had even the elementary school kids say it when he did camps with them. I believe it would of been while he was at Boyle Co. Those two days might of given Coach James a little insight into HHS that outsiders would not of had. Very smart move with the statement at the end

This is where Highlands and CJ met. I was having lunch and rehashing the whole hiring process yesterday at lunch with my brother and I had mentioned that I have been watching video of CJ and his teams bear a similar resemblance of past Highlands’s teams, very disciplined, physical with  can’t lose attitude.

Thx for sharing, makes so much sense now.
